It's happening!!
We are ready to do some testing of the revamped battle system. What better way to do this than a tournament?
While we are not quite ready to reveal all of the changes, we can give you some information so you can start planning, levelling, and getting ready.
The Details:
We will be running a PL 4-6 non-unique tournament!
* It will be restricted to Basic, Very Special, and Rare breeds of any species that is between the power levels of 4 and 6. Customs, offspring, crossbreeds, and FVSC are banned.
* Non-permanent items will not be allowed. (Permanent boosts like elixirs and injections are fine.)
* You will be allowed to make some adjustments to what you spend your TP on for this tournament. (We want you to test stuff without being locked in!)
* Not everything we want to change will be ready for testing at this time, but most of it will.
* Magic (as in the abilities 'magical' and so on) will not be allowed in this tournament. You may enter a pet with these abilities, but they cannot be used.
* Participants will earn pit points normally, and the champion will be given champion status.
We will be revealing the parts of the revamp that are ready for testing sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. The tournament will take place 2-3 weeks after that. We wanted to announce this early so you have plenty of time to prep/gain levels.

We will be accepting applications until Midnight, US Central Time, on April 2nd. Please check the battle update for more information on what we've changed. Then, once you feel ready to enter, you may submit your training here. Finally, once your training is approved, send your application (below) to Battle Moderator to enter! Name: <creature's name> Species: <creature's breed and species> Level: <creature's level> Loyalty: <creature's loyalty to you> Base Stats: <creature's base stats, abilities, and moves, not including anything you've trained or added> Stat Boosts: <natural boosts to the creature's stats, from the training gym> Alterations: <any injections or permanent potions, and what they get from it> Trained: <everything you've trained, including skills, abilities, tricks, and moves>

Hello all! Looking at the results of the deadline extension poll, we have decided to extend the due date for entries to Midnight, US Central Time, on April 15th. You now have an extra half month to get your entries in! As before, remember that everything your creatures knows for the tournament must be noted in Beta Tournament Training Submissions, and then once you are done training, your creature must be submitted using the form in the post above, PMed to the Battle Moderator account. Best of luck!

Hello everyone! As it stands, applications for the beta tournament have now closed! Thank you so much for a fantastic turn out, we can't wait to see you all on the arena floor! That being said, this tournament is going to be structured a little differently from previous ones. As mentioned in previous announcements, you now have five days to post in a battle thread instead of three. And that's because rather than doing rounds one at a time, which makes tournaments take a very, very long time, we'll be running each battle simultaneously. In this case we received nine applications, so each person will have eight threads they need to post in, with one post required every 5 days. This will hopefully make tournaments a lot quicker to run, though like most things it is subject to change if it turns out it doesn't work well! For a quick reminder on how to start threads now, as mentioned in the Battle Tutorial, each thread will be opened, you will make an introductory post with your creature's stats and a to-hit roll, and then you will PM your choice of first move to the battle moderator, preferably titling the PM after the name of your match so we know what thread to apply the results to. When the Battle Moderator makes a post with the results, your next roleplay post will be in response to that, and you'll PM the battle moderator your next move. We'll give you a couple days to take this in, plan your moves, get prepared, (and maybe take a bit of a breather after all that training!) and then the tournament will open! Best of luck!

Let The Battles Begin!
The tournament is now open! Every possible matchup now has a thread, and everyone has been sent out a PM linking to each thread. Please use these PMs to report your choice of move to the Battle Moderator! Seeing as we have NINE participants, that means that everyone should have EIGHT matches. If it looks like a match got skipped or you didn't receive a PM for one, please let me know! As mentioned, you now have a deadline of 5 days (Until midnight US central 5/5/24) to make a post for each. In addition, the fighting pit has a lower word count requirement- only 100 words for each post! Best of luck to all participants- I look forward to seeing your strategies!

After an accidental discovery (by yours truly), we would like to warn everyone about an oversight in the dice roller plugin that may affect people making their to-hit rolls for the tournament:
This paragraph has been added to the dice roller tutorial for future reference.

A quick mid-tournament tweak: Wing Buff is being slightly altered to account for... well, we didn't realize it would be THIS effective. We're not expecting to have to make any other changes mid-tournament, and we're only changing this one now because we're still early enough in the tournament that it shouldn't counteract with anything already done.
Old: Wing Buff [Flt] [Nrs] [Rng] Flaps wings to create a strong wind that strikes the foe. Damage is equal to the user's dexterity. Learned by: Creatures with strong wings and at least 2 Strength. Wind - 5
New: Wing Buff [Str] [Rng] Flaps wings to create a strong wind that strikes the foe. Base damage is the creature's strength stat plus their dexterity stat. Learned by: Creatures with strong wings and at least 2 Strength. Wind - 5

Hello everyone,
We've realized that there are some ongoing issues with what counts as a move that acts only on the self/what needs and doesn't need a to-hit roll. This will definitely be something that we refine in more detail after the beta tournament, and we appreciate your patience for it. (And for bringing it up and pointing it out to start with!) For the time being, we're going to be ruling what counts as what on a case by case basis and keeping that ruling for that particular move throughout the tournament. For now, we're addressing Echolocation:
Echolocation [Cdn #1] [Rng] [Snd] Sends out sonic waves to locate the enemy with beyond accurate accuracy. The user’s next move is guaranteed to hit without needing a to-hit roll, and the foe’s next move has ¼ accuracy. Learned by: Creatures with Sonar Sense.
Electrical or Physical - 3
In this case, the user's next move being a guaranteed hit does NOT require a to-hit roll as it affects only the self, but the opponent's next move having 1/4 accuracy DOES.
Again, thank you all for your patience with this! I realize it's not ideal to have to make rulings like this off the cuff, but it really REALLY helps us with knowing what needs to be adjusted and fixed.

Hello everyone,
We weren't expecting this to come up quite so soon, but the following has been added to the glossary:
Minimum Damage: If a creature successfully rolls a hit with its to-hit roll and makes contact with an attack that deals damage, it will always do a minimum of one damage even if the damage is in theory reduced to or below zero by the opponent's resistance stat.
As it stands this has actually always been a rule for tournaments, but we recently realized it hadn't been officially written down anywhere.
