She felt like she had to mention Silver given their connection to the place, but it didn’t quite feel right to dump everything else out as well.
‘That is nice of them,’ Marta said. She could tell that Nina was struggling to tell the story. When she was talking about her creatures or training methods, she was so much more confident and excited, but talking about this she sounded reluctant and sad. Marta was really curious about why, but she wasn’t about to push for more info than Nina wanted to give freely.
“Yea, I suppose so,” Nina said. She didn’t really think of it in those words, but it did make sense. It felt like Silver did it because they felt obligated to, but she also considered the possibility that they just wanted to do something kind for her. It was a bit odd, wasn’t it? For them to give her a dedicated place to train creatures, which was a large part of what they most profoundly disagreed about.
‘Do you want to tell me more about your friend?’ Marta finally asked. She could see the way Nina stared wistfully up at the clouds and wanted to prod the conversation along if she could.

“I’m… not really sure,” Nina admitted. She did want to talk about them. She wanted to explain everything. From the moment she gained consciousness until now. She wanted to tell Marta everything. At the same time, she felt a pressure to hide. Not to say anything about who she really was and everything that happened. It all felt like too much, and she didn’t want to scare away her new friend.
Laputa flopped over into the grass, making a loud sound that made Nina jump a bit. She wanted to laugh at how absurd it felt that she interrupted them at just the right time. That was enough to make up her mind, and she rested her hand on Laputa’s leg while she spoke. Something about being in contact with one of her beloved creatures gave her a moment of clarity.
“I think I will, some day, but maybe not right now. Silver and I… it’s a long story, and I do want to tell you, ah, I mean, if you want, if you want to listen, that is, and…”
‘I understand,’ Marta said with a sagely nod. It sounded like her friend had a lot to talk about, and she didn't want to rush it. Maybe some day she could share her story, too, but today didn't feel like that day.
