Well, not here yet, for one. Zenjesi was leaning on the edge of the ring, paging through a pocket-sized species encyclopedia. Lumi paced around in the ring below. His head was cocking at every unfamiliar sound (of which there were many) and he seemed to be restless, pawing at the sand. Ah - Baakir. Zenjesi stopped and held the page closer to inspect the small sketch printed there. Some kind of hooved beast, an herbivore, but towering. Perhaps that would be its own defense against Lumi's wings. He's heard of 'gallor' before. Its like a bird thing, right? Flare squints at his battle chart, which doens't lend much help to him. He gets Lisans name, the opponents name, and its breed. But apart from that, not much. Did Lisan ever go against a flying opponent before? Um.... yes, yes she did. Previous round, they'd both found a wasp bigger then he was as their opponent. Surely this... bird creature, now he sees is white and has a fisher birds head, as he portrays egals to be.
Lisan isn't surprised to see the white bird thing; she's clearly got more experience drawing blood then it. Wretched carnivore.

It did not take long for their competitor to arrive and, as she did, Zenjesi and Lumi both blinked in surprise. The satyr had expected height, but their head would not reach even the creature's shoulder. She loomed over their Gallor's head as well, and she carried with her a certain aura that implied she would not take kindly to Lumi's presence.
He seemed to detect this, and remained watchful as the match began. Zenjesi immediately commanded Lumi via the whistle to take flight, but the Baakir was quick. Before he was able to find his wings, her hoof connected with him, and he squawked angrily. But a moment later, he was aloft, and Zenjesi blew the whistle again.

Height above her won't save it now. She's perfectly capable of attempting to reach the carnivore as it attempts to take over territory that she, as a land creature, can't reach. Overconvident in her own reach being the tallest creature around. As the baakir rears up onto her hind legs, she strikes out to attempt to hit the flying carnivore. It does hit it as the other takes off, and a snort of confidence escapes the snooty one as she lands on fours again. Is it scared yet? She's the tallest and strongest around!
Flare leans on his staff a bit as he watches the baakir with an impassive expression. She doesn't listen to him anyways so he's just the 'body in the owner box' so she's not considered a wild.

The Gallor would not be bested so easily. Though the hoof had connected with his flank, Lumi was spurred to action. His own claws retaliated, hooked talons slashing down in the lights of the pit. Zenjesi's brow was furrowed, watching intently as carnivore and herbivore sparred. Thus far, the match was quite even - more so than they would have expected or hoped.
An herbivore, of course, could ideally defend itself against predators, and Gallor were intended to live and hunt in groups. A well-placed hoof could dispatch a humanoid in a single blow. All of this and the Baakir's degree of confidence concerned the satyr.

OUCH. The bird cat hybrid means business. Flare doesn't have any sort of strong connection with Lisan, not even remotely but when those talons rake her, he winces. Its never easy to watch these practice duels. Lisan's gonna get very mad about that.
Right he was. Lisan's in pain. And now VERY MAD. She screams, throwing her head back as her hoof plants hard into the offending flying beasts flank. Cantering backwards with sharp pains stretching a length of her shoulder. Yellow eyes are almost bloodshot with anger. How dare. She charges in for another attempt to hit the flying predator. If it can't escape her hooves it shouldn't even try. Just stand there and let her break something.

Never before had Zenjesi heard an herbivore create the noise that the Baakir did then. They lifted their gaze from the scuffle going on in the arena up to their fellow contestant, standing in the opposing owner's box. He seemed remarkably uninvolved. What a curious strategy... But he did seem somewhat concerned as well.
Quickly, the satyr raised the whistle and attempted a new strategy. Perhaps this would give the Gallor a bit of distance? In response, Lumi beat his wings furiously, and the force battered the Baakir. Still, somehow, it was not enough to deter her. Her hoof landed on Lumi's side once again.

He forgot just much being slammed into a solid object, like a wall, hurts. By wind, no less. Flare winces as the windstorm whipped up by the flying hybrid bird lion forces Lisan into the nearest solid object. But she's not down, she's not out. Come on Lisan...
She tripped, thats all. Just the smallest catch on her legs brought her down as the bird starts making it windy and rolling into something. She stands again, a sidestep or two as the baakir regains her bearings. Wasn't she fighting two of those predators? No. Headshake. No theres only one. And she's going ot rip it out of the sky and trample its face.

For the first time during this tournament, the satyr felt a glimmer of hope. The baakir was tiring. She had stumbled under the strength of their gallor's wings and appeared to be disoriented now. In fact, was she attempting to flee? She certainly was not fighting - at least, not just now.
Despite having been raised in captivity like most of the Labs creatures, Lumi's instincts seemed to have activated. As he noticed this movement, he was renewed. He let out several excited chirps, as Zenjesi's whistle-blown command was not arriving quickly enough. The moment they did so, he once again angled his wings towards the baakir.

One can only walk into the wind for so long without getting tired, thats for sure. The wind is super strong and she doesn't like it. A cry of indignation, the baakir bursts into speed she didn't seem to have previously. Still just agile enough to maybe avoid another round of being winded. Literally winded.
Flare is taking note that almost every other creature in this practice duel is being commanded. He isn't. He's letting Lisan, who has fought other animals before, just do what she likes. Not that he'd know anything about how to command a beast. rikbiYZf1-101-10
