The heat of the forge was never ending. It toiled away, burning with a restless flame, as though it had a life of its own. The white hot flames danced around one another, licking away at anything that dared to get too close. Venus stood proud of her work, admiring the effort that it took to give life to the unliving beast. Every claw mark, every stacked stone, every ounce of flame came from the hard work of herself and her beautiful partner. Yet this was just the beginning. Venus loved the heat, but even she needed a break from time to time. She stepped outside into the cool fresh air, feeling the breeze sting against her singed scales. By all accounts, it was a lovely day, but she wasn't sure she had the capacity to appreciate it when there was so much more work to be done. Still, she heeded the advice she had been given and stretched out on a rock, letting the cool air wash over her.

Tembal was feeling restless and he was pretty sure his sister was ready to kill him. Desperate to find something to do, he wandered into an all but abandoned section of the lair full of old junk. He began to root around, pushing aside stacks of books in hope of finding some buried treasure. Dusty tomes, crumpled scrolls, dried out old paint, there was a ton of stuff in there. He had no idea such abundant treasure existed right under his nose this whole time. After rustling around for a while and making a much bigger mess than he had started with, Tembal found something that really caught his interest. It was a sizable object that was sticking halfway out of the pile. It was cold to the touch and his claws running over it caused it to make an interesting humming sound. His eyes grew wide with wonder and he knew that he had to figure out what it was.

The warmth of the sun filtered down through the sparse clouds in the sky, warming her scales in a rather pleasant way, contrasting with the crisp cool air of spring. She enjoyed the sensation and was beginning to come around to the idea of staying outside for a while.
Within the walls of the great forge, it was so easy to forget about the outside world. It was as if nothing else mattered, all of her time and energy was completely consumed by her work. Sitting out here with nothing but the breeze to entertain her reminded her that it was okay to take a break and enjoy herself from time to time.
She yawned widely, flipped over onto her back, and stretched out all of her limbs. She waved her thick tail and wiggled her legs until she found just the perfect position for maximum comfort. There she rested with her eyes closed, allowing the morning sun to tickle her belly while she dozed.

Tembal eagerly showed his new treasure to Chirha, who could not have been less interested. 'It's broken,' he said flatly before rolling over and continuing his nap. He was right, of course, but Tembal wasn't about to let that bother him. All he had to do was fix it, right? How hard could that be?
Sadly, after polling all of his kin, he didn't find a single Draconic who knew how to repair the large metal object. However, one of them did know of a place that might be able to help. That would have to do. He hastily made his way into town alone, since Chirha was still napping and he was too excited to wait.
Tembal found the cavern he was looking for and poked his head inside. "Helloo?" he said into the air, since he couldn't see anyone from where he was floating. He waited there for a moment, not wanting to go inside and get himself into trouble before he even confirmed that he was in the right place.

Stretched out among the rocks, Venus and her sooty grey scales looked like a part of the scenery. She lightly dozed as the memories of her hard work blew away on the breeze. She stirred awake, not quite sure how long she had been napping for. The sound of someone's voice rang in her head for a moment before she put it all together and realized that the sound was not coming from her dreams.
Venus suddenly hopped up and stretched dramatically before heading over to see what all the fuss was about. There was a Shalaya staring into the empty foyer of the forge. It wasn't totally clear what he was doing there, so she decided to ask.
"Hey there," she said. "What are you looking for?"
The fact that he was looking for her had not yet crossed her mind. Metal and fire she understood, but dealing with customers was not her specialty.

"Oh!" Tembal said in a squeaky surprised voice when the Galathan approached. While he had been expecting someone to answer him, he rightly thought they'd come from inside, not outside the cavern.
"I am looking for a forge," he explained. "Do you know if this is the right place? Or if there's someone I can talk to?"
As Tembal took a better look at the Draconic who approached him, he got the feeling he was talking to someone who could answer his questions. Her scales were tinged with soot and she smelled like smoke, but in a nice way. It reminded him of the way a warm cooking fire felt on a cold winter night. It seemed quite likely that she had something to do with the forge. Her proximity to it was probably not a coincidence.
Still, he waited for her to answer the questions he already asked before asking any more. He didn't want to overwhelm her, and he knew he could talk a little too fast at times.

Venus could not say that she was surprised when he said he was looking for the forge. That was where he was standing, after all. She was honestly a bit relieved that he asked a question she was perfectly suited to answer. Come to think of it, he was probably relieved, too.
"That would be me," Venus said with a cheerful grin. "I run the forge, I mean. My name is Venus. How can I help you?"
This was all relatively new to her, and she was uncertain about what to expect. Word had spread about their project enough to get a few enquiries here and there, but she wasn't too familiar with the process yet. She wasn't sure what else to say, so she would let him take the lead by explaining what he needed. If nothing else, she had a passion for what she did, and she hoped that was enough to carry the conversation.

Tembal was visibly pleased to have found the right person right away without any fuss. Now if only everything else would go this easily, he would be done in no time at all.
"Great!" he said. "I am hoping you can help me to fix something I found in our lair. It's made of metal, obviously, and there's a large crack in it. My kin said I should come here and ask if you could fix it."
"Sorry," he continued. "I didn't bring it with me because it's pretty big. Do you want me to, I dunno, draw a picture of it, or we could get someone stronger than me to bring it here maybe, oh, or you could come back with me to take a look if you want."
Tembal smiled sheepishly, hoping that his confession wouldn't upset her. He was not very strong on his own, and silly Chirha didn't want to help. That didn't leave him with too many options.

This guy spoke really fast. Venus blinked a couple of times after taking in all of the information. He wanted something fixed, and he didn't have it with him. Not the most straightforward problem, but she could work with that.
"I need to see it," she said. A drawing would not suffice, since she could not learn anything about the quality of the metal or how structural the damage was without seeing it herself. She doubted he had the skill to articulate all of that, so she cut right to it.
"If you could take me to it, I can decide if a repair would be possible," she said. "I can come with you, I am not busy at the moment."
A nice walk through the canyon might do her some good, actually. Galena did keep nagging her about how much time she spent cooped up inside. Besides, it could be fun to meet someone new, and he seemed pretty lively.

When she agreed to come with him, he was visibly relieved. His plans were a bit vague from this point forward, so it was good that she was agreeable. He honestly wasn't sure what he would do if she chose a different option. His sister was always telling him to make a plan before doing stuff like this, but did he ever listen? No. No he did not.
"Oh that's great! It's not too far, just to the south of here," he explained. He flicked his wings to take off toward home, but quickly remembered that Galathan could not fly. He would have to stay low to accompany her.
"My name is Tembal, by the way, it's nice to meet you, Venus," he said. It was easy for him to get so focused on a task that he forgot silly stuff like introductions. Hopefully she didn't mind too much. She didn't seem like the fussy sort, after all.

She had to admit that visiting a client's home was not what she expected to do today. Since everything to do with the forge was all so new, she was willing to give anything a try. Business was still slow, but word of mouth moved quickly through the canyon. Would making cave calls be something she did often after this? Well, if it allowed her to continue to practice her craft, she could certainly get used to it.
"Nice to meet you, Tembal," she said, almost as an afterthought. To be honest, she had not even thought to ask his name, even though she had offered hers. A different, more pressing question sat on her mind instead.
"Tembal, before we leave, can I ask you - how did you end up here? I mean, how did you know the forge was here?" Not a bad question, considering she hadn't even finished constructing the sign for the front entrance yet.

He was so excited to show her what he had found that he almost took off without her. He awkwardly froze in place and let her ask her question. Of course she had questions. Who wouldn't? He had just appeared out of nowhere and started dragging her off toward his lair. That was a lot to take in.
He expected her question to be about the object he found or about how he would afford to pay her or something, but she actually wanted to know how he ended up there. Tembal had to pause for a second and answer the question that was being asked instead of the one he had made up in his head a microsecond earlier.
"Well, one of my kin suggested it," he said. That probably was not what she really wanted to know, he thought, so he added an additional detail. "She makes jewelry, so she knows about metal, but like, not enough to fix it, I guess."

He sure was twitchy. Venus noted that he never seemed to stop moving, even when he was talking. It was a lot to take in, so she tried to focus on what he was saying rather than what he was doing.
She was pleased to hear that she had been recommended by one of his kin. Word moved fast, indeed. Someone she had likely never heard of suggested he come her for her help. It was truly difficult to build something so ambitious without others hearing about it. What great news for the future of Cor Terra.
"That is good to know," she said. "I am happy to hear we have a good reputation."
"Now, let's go, I want to see what you are working on," she said. It was true, of course, but mostly she just wanted him to stop looking so antsy. Whatever he had must be exciting, given his strong reaction to it.

"Right. Right!" Tembal said quickly turning around again. As much as he wanted to show her respect and listen to what she was saying, he was so eager to get started that he was finding it difficult to pay attention. Which was a shockingly common occurrence for him.
As he floated effortlessly through the canyon, Tembal paused to consider his route. Since she couldn't fly, he decided to take a slightly longer path that would be easier for her to navigate. This was something his kin often did for him due to his lack of swimming ability, so it was practically second nature.
"Say, how long have you been in business, anyway?" Tembal asked. That was pretty much the only thing he knew about her, so it was all he could think to talk about. He supposed he could have come up with something more out there, but he didn't want to run her off before she even got the chance to look at his project.
