“Alright Sev, stay.’ She commands him as she heads back towards the cart, taking and brining the tennis balls and torch light closer to Sev, but not too close, she places everything near her and notes Sev’s reaction as he twitches at the sound of Saar’s lumbering steps when he walks to different patches of grass. Wings rotating and twitching to go in the air. “Alright Sev,” She says to catch his attention once more as he focused on her. ‘Here is what we are going to do, I will throw a ball and you are going to try and dodge it instinctively, but!’ She calls out in a teasing tone as she grins, picking up the torch light and clicking it on, blinding Sev as he looks straight at it when she aims for his eyes. ‘You probably won’t be able to completely see where the balls hit, thanks to this.’ She’s almost completely certain of it, and while normally she’d cover a creatures ears and eyes to learn this blindly. She has no idea where Sev’s earholes are actually located, or, if he actually hears with his whole body. So, this is the next best thing she could do while they are working on it out in the cold. She supposes his reaction time will also be slower thanks to it.

With her intentions of what she wants to teach him at least partly known to Sev, she begins throwing the first ball slowly towards him while aiming with the torch light at Sev’s eyes. She can tell that she was aiming too slowly with the torch to blind him, as she does notes he tenses his legs and jumps slightly to the side, his wings fluttering to aid with the jump, and throwing thanks to the cold wind that comes from using that tactic her aim off. He certainly dodged it that way, she muses, but considering she wanted to begin with a soft throw, he just got lucky. Aiming her torch light at his eyes, she throws the ball harder, it gains enough speed that while Sev twitches with his wings, he wasn’t prepared for the hit against his leg. He jumps and hisses in surprise at the slight pain, not having expected it. ‘Try to look past the light Sev, I know you can do it!’ She encourages him as she picks up and aims once more, throwing the ball at him while making it hard for him to see. The grunting of Saar distracts Sev enough that while he tries to jump to the side and away from the noise Saar made suddenly, it made the ball hit him on the chest when he wasn’t paying attention.

She wonders for just a moment what Sev would do when he hears Saar howl when he is already scared at just the grunting sounds Saar does when trying to make grabs at food that doesn’t rip easily from the ground. She keeps the impulse inside her for now, having him up in the air to try and teach this would be just too difficult, she doesn’t know if she is able to aim at a moving target while keeping ahold of the torchlight. Though, if she really wants, she could set up a small generator and large lamps. She did bring it along just in case this wouldn’t work. But perhaps with the cold weather in her favor for now, his slow reaction will work to her benefit. Aiming the torch light in his eyes, she throws the ball to his right hard enough that any wind from flying Sev produces won’t be enough to have her aim be off. And she’s right, blinded by the light, and still distracted by knowing there is a large and dangerous predator near him. Sev didn’t hear the whistling sound of the ball nearing him, wings twitching as he gets ready for a jump. He is too late when it his another one of his legs, hissing in slight pain.

Sev’s day compared to yesterday didn’t feel like it is going nearly as well, he liked yesterday much better with its somewhat warmer weather and the chance for stretching his wings. Wings! He finally has them now, and the joy of flight has yet to leave him. But… He winces not in pain, but from irritation as his caretaker is shining a bright light once more in his eyes, making it hard to see. He rotates his wings in a quick motion, ready to jump away, but it feels more off compared to yesterday, his wings don’t get enough blood in the veins at a fast rate compared to yesterday. The wind that blows in the area not helping either, but this time when he focuses, despites the sound of the wind and light in his eyes, he does hear something coming towards him at a fast rate. Left or right? Left or right? Which way? He hisses in pain when he hesitates a second too long, getting hit near his shoulder. “Gru, gru.” Startled, he twitches to face the big lug’s direction, was that beast just now laughing at him? If he had eyelids, they would have narrowed at the thought of being laughed at, but he doesn’t feel brave enough to make much of an issue out of it, not yet. ‘C’mon Sev! Focus!’ He hears his caretaker say, just as he turns his head once more in the direction of the annoying light.

This time he did catch the very slight whistling of the ball as it comes towards him, thanks to the direction he faces, so with fluttering wings, he jumps aside. Not feeling the slight blow of the ball that hit his legs so often, he is confident he dodged it. Especially when behind him, he hears the thumping of something rolling. Though the clattering of the cans as they toppled over yesterday was much louder than this for certain. ‘Again Sev!’ He hears her say as he faces her, trying not to focus too much at the big lug whenever they grunt and tear something up, making him tense and imagine his legs get ripped. How she feels so comfortable with it near her is a mystery, he muses while looking into the bright light of the object she holds. He rotates his wings, and when he thinks he hears the ball, he tries to jump away from its path. On some occasions, he succeeds, but more often, the noises that the big lug makes as it keeps tearing at things terrifies him enough that his reactions are too slow. It’s come to the point that after a couple of miserable hours out in the cold, even with the food, she packs everything up and they leave before the sun goes down. She and the big lug cheerful, while he isn’t happy at all. His body feels bruised, and his wing’s reaction when he flies, odd and slow thanks to the cold.

The next day they are once more in the clearing, the weather cold enough that his caretaker started making once more a campfire to keep things slightly warmer, and he feeling refreshed after a healing session with Solis, another big beast that looks far less intimidating to be in the presence of compared to the big lug that she had decided to take along once more. It isn’t something he is happy about, but aside from the terrifying sounds they made when tearing things up. He does have to admit the big lug hasn’t done anything to him yet. “Okay Sev!” He hears his caretaker’s voice, catching his attention as he focuses more on her, then the big lug she has tied up to a different tree compared to yesterday. He readies himself against the torchlight bright light, but twitches in surprise when suddenly a lot of bright lights are aimed at him. None of which she actually holds, aside from pushing a couple of buttons. He hears the sound of something mechanical moving while staying in one spot and feels like gulping. Isn’t this a bit extreme? The torchlight was bad, but this? It makes him wish it was yesterday’s training! He didn’t hear the whistling of the ball as it was thrown in his direction, but feeling it? He sure does!

Hissing in irritation at what is likely going to make him bruise once more, he tries to ignore the sounds of the big lug as he hears him grunting, tries to focus where the ball is going to be aimed at this time, tries to ignore the bright lights that makes it hard to see. His excellent eyesight perhaps dooming him because of just how bright and detailed he can see things, and the sunspots in his vision distracting him as he tries to dodge the balls. He tries his best, even with the encouraging words of his caretaker and that he just needs to focus on things. But he does! He does focus on it all! Perhaps a bit too much! A howling sound of the big lug when his caretaker said something to them, startles him enough to jump in the air and fly high, bracing himself for just how much colder it is up here compared to near the fire. But at least here he is safe, and while the lights are bright enough that he doesn’t see his caretaker, nor the big lug quite so well, he feels calmer, if only long enough for him to be called back and trying his best once more to deal with everything.

Feeling slightly warmer while he is on the ground, he can tell his reaction to everything seems to still be going at the same pace as yesterday. Whether that could be considered an improvement or not, he can’t quite say. But at least with the warmth of the campfire, his wings feel a little faster in response at least, and with it, his mood a bit more improved. Even with all the bruises he collects when he couldn’t dodge the balls fast enough, or didn’t notice them. Though, he has to admit. He still startles badly enough to fly up out in the cold whenever his caretaker wants the big lug to howl, and then going from slightly warm to terrible cold, makes his mood plumate once more. Even when he lands on the ground and feels himself warming up a bit, it takes a while for his nerves to settle, and focus on not getting hit. Something he is wondering about if it ever will happen that he is capable of dodging out of the way completely, even when the light just gives him more troublesome sunspots in his vision. With the hours ticking on, he does his best, and with the short breaks she makes him take a few times with the session growing longer, he can tell the sky is getting darker, the air colder when she forgets to tend to the campfire and let it peters out to the point it isn’t even smoldering. Pretty soon after she packs things up, and they leave once more. This time he flies a little lower to the ground, closer to the big lug then he likes. But its better than going too high right now in the colder air.

A new day, colder than the last, a new training session. He grumbles as she sets everything up, getting irritated at the big lug as it keeps making those tearing sounds at the grass, he hates it. It makes him feel like the big lug is going to tear his legs off any moment, he knows the sound well enough from what he did to his bug prey back when he was still a larvae, and he dislikes it greatly to feel so vulnerable. It’s starting to make him irritated, but not brave enough to do anything about it. There is just a niggling thought in the back of his mind that if he lashes out, and doesn’t get away fast enough, he will end up as prey to the big lug. So trying anything right now isn’t worth it. Though, aside from the irritation, he has to admit, he does feel a little jittery for some reason. More energetic without actually having any extra energy? He doesn’t quite know how to describe it, but ever since his caretaker stabbed him (though not actually painful), and had Solis heal him, he keeps getting that feeling. It just adds to the distraction of everything going on around him. ‘Focus Sev, we’re starting again. Try to dodge this!’ Right, can’t forget where he is. Tensing his muscles, he readies himself as best as he can, trying to ignore the bright light, the cold wind and sometimes warm air from a new campfire that his caretaker has started, and the sounds the big guy makes. The slight whistling under the mechanical sound coming from his caretaker’s direction makes him jump right, wings fluttering to aid with his jump. He hears the thump of the ball hitting the ground a bit father away from his position.

“Trii!” He cheers at getting it right for the first time at the very beginning of the training session, he doesn’t think that has happened before in the times he tried dodging the ball! “Good job Sev!” Encouraged at his success, he focusses once more, rotating his wings gentle as he readies himself. Focusing more in the direction of the light, he sees the slight movement of his caretaker as she ducks and rises, the lamps behind her blinding him at the unexpectant movement. He wasn’t certain if he actually heard something this time, too many sunspots in his vision, but a niggling feeling of something coming to his left, made him jump to the right. He didn’t make the jump quickly enough when the tip of one of his legs got hit. Hissing out in pain at the more sensitive part, he knows he needs to ready himself, he can’t cry out to much and loose focus. He wants to do his best, not just for the treats, but also gaining her approval, something just makes him perk up when she is happy he did something right. And he wants to keep that feeling, even if it hurts right now as well. “Graahhh!” The loud howling he hears coming from the big lug makes him jump in the air, forcing him to brave the cold. He feels his wings stutter in reaction, making him falter, he quickly flies down and hopes he won’t have his body be teared down by the big lug. Though he can’t help but hiss at the beast in reaction.

This being scared of the big lug, he is really starting to hate this feeling. While it feels rational as they look in his eyes like a big predator, the fact that the big lug is eating only grass makes him wonder if they really don’t eat meat. Particular, bug meat that is. Even now, after having bellowed what may as well be a warning cry for Sev not to get too close to them, they started eating the grass around them once more. Shaking off the thought and sight of the big lug quickly when he starts to feel that niggling sensation of something’s coming, he jumps to the left, quicker then last time as he flutters with his wings to have him move quicker. The ball didn’t hit him, he hears a thumping behind him that indicates it. Yes! Perking up, he looks directly in the direction of his caretaker once more, trying his best to ignore the bright lights that bring sunspots in his vision, he can almost see a vague outline of something, just as he focusses on the niggling feeling inside of him, trying to see which direction it is telling him to go. Left? Right? No! Lunging upwards and getting higher in the sky, he braces himself as best as he can against the cold, and just barely makes out the sight of two balls having been thrown in his direction!

That’s not fair at all! ‘Good job Sev! You dodged them!’ He hears her say, and sees her adjust the direction of the lamps. It’s.. It’s pointing up? At him? He feels a nervous bubbling feeling inside his stomach at the sight, the lamps are blinding him once more, and though he has more freedom of movement in the air, the cold hampers his reaction as well, stiffening his wing movements. ‘You’re doing great Sev! Stay in the air at that height! We are going to work just a little more at your dodging capabilities without warning.’ He doesn’t like the sound of that, he doesn’t like it at all. The slight sound of balls being thrown in the air makes him move in the opposite direction, he wants to go higher, but she said he had to stay at this height, he wants to make her happy, but he also fears for the chance one of those balls could hit his wings. And while tough, they are in a way almost more delicate as well with the exposed blood veins running through it. Shivering, he focuses as best as he can to look past the bright lights, really ignore the sunspots his vision gets each time he moves and most importantly! As soon as he hears the first sound of the big lug’s bellow down on the ground. He stills the air with a simple forceful thought of ‘no more’ so no sound reaches him any further, he’s not going to let the big lug scare him off! Not this time!

Though, side note. With no sound passing the space he flies in, and the air, while cold, being less bothersome than before, he also doesn’t hear the ball quite as well either, the niggling feeling of where he needs to move advises him too late as he tries to look through the bright light. Just as he tried moving away, he got hit by the ball quite close to his stinger, which he can tell any other Vespa, hurts majorly! It might be a bruise that he is going to feel for quite a long while if Solis isn’t going to heal him later tonight. Hissing in annoyance, he tries not to think of the pain as best as he can, rather, he wants to focus better on actually avoiding that ball. He isn’t certain if his caretaker actually knows how to aim so far up, but with this shot he isn’t going to take any chances! Looking directly at the light, he thinks maybe he sees some outline of his caretaker as she seems to aim at him? He isn’t quite certain, the light really makes it hard to see what she is doing, but he thinks, maybe he is getting there. The niggling feeling of a warning in the back of his mind makes him lunge backwards as fast possible, and sees two balls that would have almost hit him, but just as he tries to relax at least a little…

The feeling of something coming for him, even if he can’t hear it, is coming closer, dodging to the left, almost dramatically as he is starting to trust his instinct, he then checks behind him, seeing the ball that he just now dodged. Just how fast is his caretaker capable of doing so? He wonders, eyeing the bright lights he is certain she is at. She hasn’t said anything to him for a while now, nor did he to her as he doesn’t see much point in it, but it does make him wonder how she would be able to see his progress in it then? Going just a little closer, he ignores the bright lights as best as he can, the outline of his caretaker is just a bit better to spot now that he does as he just tries to not move his eyes too much. Just taking everything in as he can. Not quite focusing on just his caretaker though, but trying to get everything all at once.

He notices when the outline of what he guesses his caretaker is, is moving up and down again, making him assume she is preparing to once more throw the ball or balls at him. He can’t assume its just her throwing only one ball, not when he had to dodge quite a few already that where not all that far apart from each other. Readying himself, he holds still for just a moment, make her think he still can’t quite see her, and then… There! Just as niggling feeling in the back of his mind starts to blare on where the ball might hit him, he sees her starting to throw, he couldn’t quite catch the sight of the balls just compared to the size of his caretaker, but he thinks its quite possible that he will at some point. The lights aren’t nearly as distracting to him if he just allows himself to take everything in, and not try to focus on only one thing. He moves to the right, back, and forwards again, but the last of the niggling feeling is harder to decipher when he has to figure out where everything goes. He hisses as one of his legs get hit by the fourth ball. That’s not good.
