The weather had indeed turned for the colder, as the summer was passing and fall began to take hold. Perhaps in no small dissimilar manner, a passing piece of information had reached the lepus regarding a botanical garden within the city that promoted the trading of specimens. He had found this notion quite delighting, for there were many plants he would have quite enjoyed to survey closer and perhaps ascertain if some could be planted within the garden proper. It was quite a peculiar notion the city had few enough botanical outlets that offered such seeds, though the gardens did not seem to suffer for it. Indeed, they seemed to produce an abundance of flowers and food alike, regardless what was planted.
Thus, the lepus passed by one fine morning to bring to these flower pots, as it were, some of the produce from the garden. The grass which had grown there seemed almost pandemical, so it was simple enough matter to offer some up for this trade, along with another of the abundant fruits. In return, he browsed through the blooms of the pots, for any such as to catch his attention or fancy. It did not take long for him to become captivated by a most strange flower, which appeared to glow from within. Those became the other end of the trade, as he made sure to leave the proper compensation within the box on exit.

Though the season had long since turned for the colder, closer to the grips of winter than the fair chills of autumn, it appeared the strange flower pots had changed little. Quite to the lepus' surprise, the plants within seemed to stand in a manner of defiance against the chill, remaining as hale and bright as ever, where anywhere else they would have quickly come to wither and fade. A most fortunate turn of events, for he was indeed hoping to barter within for additional specimens to take back to the greenhouse, and perhaps present again to a particular association for experimentation.
The plants which he brought with seemed to hardly compare as to the contrast or radiance, for they were simple enough fare. In such exchange, he sought out an equal amount of the strange purple fruits which seemed to carry a sweetened scent. Their colour had quite the striking manner and it was easy enough to see how it might catch one's eye. As before, prior to the departure, he ensured to leave to appropriate amount of compensation within the box at the gate for such generosity.

The third visit to the rather peculiar garden left the lepus far better prepared with his expectations. The weather had since turned to winter proper, with much of the cityscape beneath a light dusting of white, if not a blanket of it. And yet the outdoor pots seemed as defiant of such weather as always. Even as he wandered between the tables and sets of plants, fully dressed to such cold drastic weather, it did not seem as though there was any unnatural warmth to affect those growing there. And yet the plants did, as if unaware the cold even existed.
Such wondrous magic, indeed. If the purveyor of the trading post should have ever seen fit to partake in conversation, he would have surely been quite interested in how such was managed. Within the interim, he sought out two pairs of orchids that had a brighter bloom than he had thus far been able to grow, as well as a patch of wheatgrass that showed promise towards cultivation. The customary payment was left within the box at the gate, as always.

It was shortly after the departure from the herbologist that the lepus happened upon the flower garden of the eccentric trader, no less green within the dead of winter as it had been prior to snowfall. In part the daily task had been accomplished, though he still retained a few of the fruits from the garden on his person, by means of seeking to do research upon them within the local library. The results of the scholarly pursuit had been quite illuminating, though likewise revealed their nature as something which the lepus, alas, had few dealing in.
A though crossed the mind, that perhaps the plants could be better utilised by those who sought to use them for their intended purpose, as they served as neither sustenance nor use outside a far narrower scope. Said train of thought caused him to detour towards the flower pots, for the day was still quite pleasant out and the diversion was not long. Within, he traded a few of the colourful fruit for slightly different kinds of their kin, ensuring to leave the appropriate compensation within the box at the gate upon his departure.

As the weather brings the promise of warmth, so too does the strange garden bring a promise of another kind. The lepus had begun to familiarize himself with more and more of the various types of plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers and roots that these strange soils could produce, and stranger still were the quite odd variety of fungi. Some for remedial uses, others for their flavour, though such select few appeared far further beyond the realm of normality, as to make their existence a question of unconventional naming, or perhaps simply over-active imagination.
Regardless of the truth of the matter, the lepus made sure to pay the tithe upon entry, for he pulled on a pair of gloves to then seek out a specific type of fungi for further research. Whether these plants truly possessed a penchant for the generation or materialization of plasma, he would be remiss to at least attempt caution. He gathered five of such he could find, leaving an offering of a plant in their place, before taking his leave.

As months came to pass, certain paths and routes through the City had become a type of routine. One such instance was a visit to the quaint little garden just beside the strange shops, where a multitude of plants existed within pots in spite of the various weather outside. The latter had become much warmer, as opposed to when the lepus first chanced to happen upon this discovery, but even within the bring of summer's growing strength, the pots contained that which both resisted warmth as well as thrived upon it.
Of particular interest that day had been a type of grass that grew quite bright and persistent, though never enough so that the lepus could pluck it from his own garden. As such, he brought the customary offering of flower, root and berries, to replace the specimens of the grass that he sought to bring home. And such as customary was the tithe left within the box that awaited it, before he took his leave.

As the courier steps out of the curious 'shop' (In essence more a bazaar, given it's rather strict style of barter commerce), he's only able to make it a few paces before he turns around and enters the little garden on the side. Bartering for these blooms had only been the first step in this rather unusual job, and he's still a little unsure how valid the description of step two is.. Based on written instructions, he's to take four of the flowers (And some crystal) to the garden, place them in appropriate pots or bins.. and then take four other flowers out along with a pear?
He stands there for several moments, reading that last part again. The slip of paper lowers and his gaze falls on a couple of pots filled with exactly the same flowers he is holding, but a different colour or breed. (There's certainly an error of logic here, somewhere. Why trade in something for the flowers in the shop, if they're free to grab outside of it? But he's not exactly being paid to understand this strange barter system so much as just going through it).
There's a nonchalant shrug, as he swaps four blooms with darker versions of the same, and places the crystal to where the pear as. He's almost about to turn and leave before he pauses, remembering one final step - A small pouch of credits left in the donation box at the gate. (He doesn't quite understand what stops anyone from simply walking away, beyond some arcane means of punishment, but these are neither his flowers nor his credits, so, largely, it's also not his problem).
Trading for 4 x Dead Flower (Death) and 1 x Pear (Red) - 25c

What grip the cold and the winter held on the city appears to have released in assured finality, the weather having turned to the blazing warmth of summer. A much kinder time for many ailments, though perhaps still offering a struggle to others. For the lepus it made it easier to walk about, even if the heat otherwise did not often agree with him. The region which he had grown up in was more aligned with a slightly cooler environment, from the constant rains and overcast skies if nothing else. It was an adaptation he continued to work on, thus he chose to pick a more evening time for a city-side stroll.
It wasn't surprising to find the flower garden still open to visitors even in such late hours, though largely because it quite obviously operated under unique enough rules as was that much deviance seemed hardly out of place. If someone, or something, did watch over the area, perhaps sleep or even time wasn't quite such concerns for it. The divergence was a convenient one, for both to avoid a day-time heat, and to allow one garden denizen a chance see more of the world - as the lepus entered the enclosed area and began to wind his way through the rows of pots to find one's goal, a small purple and black head rose from the coat's pocket, likewise curious of its surroundings. Small little croaks followed the lepus business, until he had at last located the five plants quested for, and left replacements in their wake.
As was the norm, the appropriate compensation was left in the box at the gates upon departure.

The days of summer gradually drudged on with the weather shifting at a constant rate. It appeared no less able to make up one's mind than the lepus, who constantly found himself quite thwarted in making and following plans regarding outdoors. A chance outside was as likely to result in a deluge as remain sunny throughout, and like as not there's only so much light energy can do to protect one's self from such situations via arcane means. As such, the customary walking cane oft saw a companion in the form of an umbrella slung from the arm, as best a preparation as he could manage given the circumstances.
In spite of the absently undecided weather the lepus none the less changed to visit the gardens once more, bringing with him a few items of produce from his own garden, as well as a few items he wasn't entirely certain of the nature of, but appeared to be garden-adjacent none the less. He left the offerings upon the first table with sufficient space and went about the various pots to gather up a return in one particular fruit. Once done, there was the tip left within the box upon exit, before he would attempt to hurry home, lest the darkening horizon threaten another rainfall.
