Just because she'd trained a handful of sarane didn't mean Lethalia thought herself some kind of adept at training. Surely the creatures were monstrous, but they were known to her. Compared to what was available in the city, her beasts were quite quaint in comparison. Sitting in on other tournament battles before she faced them herself turned out to be a bad idea for her state of mind. The idea of being outclassed in capability rankles her, though such leverage-seeking behavior is unusual for her. It was just... what if there was something strong enough to wipe out what she had managed to make for herself thus far? Some creature could come and wipe it all out, if she wasn't strong enough to defend it.
Before being at the labs, she had been so at ease sleeping under the stars. She hadn't needed her dragon to protect her then, so why did she require him now? Lethalia's not quite sure where the idea had come from, but it wouldn't stop incessantly flitting across her mind. Without the patriarch there, her farm felt naked, undefended.

Even with her head in the clouds and pondering her plight if something bad should befall her farm while wandering the city on foot (the horror!), there were a choice few things that could always cheer her up.
An adolescent drake charging up to her with a squeaky toy was absolutely one of those things. The leggy teenager of a sarane was a far cry from the beast he would grow into, and Lethalia found herself grinning at his gawky zoom away as soon as his handler approached behind him. He clearly didn't know how to use those long spindly legs of his yet, but he'd grow into them with time. She had more than enough of the beasts at her disposal, but there was absolutely a chance she would have taken the cutie home with her, had an owner not shown up immediately after him. Not that she needed more of them, but it was so pleasing to see them grow up even with all that would entail.

So wrapped up in the young drake's charm, Lethalia hardly noticed that the woman had started to speak until she was mid-sentence. Helping with other people's critters this month, huh? Seeing that the city was quite literally built and designed around the labs' monstrous creations, it seemed strange to have yet more time dedicated to them. Still, this seemed like a perfect thing to expand her experiences a little. Put her mind at ease about her drake being gone, and garner herself a little more variety in what she knew of these lab-born critters.
She could do that. It all felt a little scripted, the way the woman approached her, but she would play into their little idea anyway. What else would she be up to throughout the day aside from moping around the pit stables with Vidarr? He'd likely be more content just to be left alone for an afternoon than he would be for her company. She couldn't even feel his thoughts if she reached through the channel of the ribbon, which meant he was already happily asleep.

Retrieving an 'assignment' from the cork board inside the little Questing Inqisitor's cottage, in short order Lethalia found herself seated with a critter to 'help' with this month. The note left felt sincere enough, and she ought to be able to handle whatever critter was tossed her way. Or at least she should be able to figure it out!
This rock creature though? Weird. Made of rock, eats rock... Likely he isn't the most exotic of choices among the catalog of animals available at the labs, but an oddity enough to her. She'd been informed the creature literally ate rocks, from those on the ground to the pouch of common gems she'd brought along. But avoid metals that would make him sick, unlike the nonmetallic rocks apparently. It was such a perplexing thing to hear come out of someone's mouth, Lethalia was convinced the owner was trying to bullshit her. Was this whole thing just meant to haze the newbies to the city? If it was, she ought to be mortified over falling for it.

That was what Lethalia supposed happened with the labs, though. People were assholes with 'normal' fauna elsewhere, it was a wonder this city hadn't been burnt to cinders from someone who couldn't control their fire-breathing monster. Either way, she'd witnessed her fair share of peoples' stupidity with animals. It was simply astounding that a city based upon distributing creates of sometimes large and destructive properties to the public was still standing. For free sometimes, no less - which is where this unfortunate fellow would have come from.
If this woman couldn't even manage to keep the critter from chewing on her couch, why was the big beastie even inside? Let alone why someone would own a creature that's too much for them to handle... Yes, it was quite amazing this city was still intact, even if this one looks like one of the more benign creatures that were out there. Gods knew where the scientists got the inspiration for this thing.

It even... oozes? The concept makes her a little squeamish even as she thinks of it; the creature is covered in it's own slime, which the owner didn't acknowledge much aside from to let Lethalia know it would be bad for him if it entirely dried out. For all intents and purposes, the stony growths of the dried ooze really made the critter come across as a giant seeping scab, with the same functionality. She would... not... let this thing in her house, let alone her couch. Did these guys have a purpose like some other lab creations did? She couldn't fathom a use for it.
At least she didn't have to figure out how to haul a couch all the way out to the park to train him not to bite it; the lamadidron was already trying to take a bite out of her on the way over. Lethalia glanced over to him in time to see the gaping maw, seemingly intending to take a sample of this new person.

Lethalia reached for her riding crop as she saw the beast gearing up to take a bite out of her - she doesn't intend to see if he's got much power in those jaws. Just a moment to wait for the right time, letting the beast show his intent a little more before reacting to it. He seemed to settle on a target, and began to make a dive at her elbow. "No," she reminds him, causing him but a moment's hesitation, jaw closing slightly as he considered... whatever that word was. "No," the woman snapped the instant his hesitation ended, and he resumed his dive for her without further thought. rounding on the creature with a tap of the crop. The soft leather end came down on the beasts' nose lightly, barely making a perceptible 'pap' as it lands. "No bites, jerk. What's your name?" That seemed like it would have been something useful to have asked before the beast was handed over to her. Too late now, he's probably going to end up just being 'Jerk'.

Reeling back, the creature reacted like he's never been told no so forcibly in his life. This was going to be quite a mind-blowing day for him, now wasn't it? It wasn't as though Lethalia was about to be mean to the lamadidron, but it was a protest with more backing up than he was accustomed to! The crop hadn't landed with any force, but it seemed like it was the end of the world. She had a hard time keeping her smirk to herself; hopefully this meant it would make a lasting impression if he was so offended! There was nothing worse than going over this endlessly, but she's also not sure yet how clever he is.
Lethalia definitely would've taken that juvenile drake to train over this any day. At least sarane were quite a lot more handsome than she found this critter - not that she would tell the owner anything of the sort.

Well, they might as well go through these paces while she wandered around for a proper target. She'd brought a bit of equipment, but hadn't really the want to lug something as a target out here. There was usually a downed tree on the outskirts of the park, or perhaps they'd stumble across one tumbled by someone's pet -
Lethalia's hoofsteps came to a pause when she realized she didn't feel a large presence behind her anymore. It only made sense he wasn't particularly keen on following her, since he wasn't her critter. The satyr turned around to find the beast lounging and half-draped over a park bench, gnawing on the metal side of it as she found him.
"Hey you, no eating. No bites. Not even nibbles. Stoppit," Lethalia admonished him. The end of the crop was put in his face, fluttering the leather end harmlessly at him. The lamadidron flinched and flailed away all the same, tucking his head away on the other side of his bulk as he hopped off the bench.

Of course critters would have to throw fits about being told not to eat things that would make them sick, that's part of the deal. It took some convincing and a few gems to tempt the critter back on track after that, but at least she did manage to find a felled tree sooner than she'd thought. Gods knew what happened to this one, literally uprooted from the ground and laying on it's side, a sizable root system shaken clean and pulled like cables through the surrounding dirt. Well, she'd like to meet whatever did this... so she could get one.
Lethalia squared herself up with the tree, brandishing the rock flail she'd brought with her. The lamadidron kept a close eye on her since she still had that flaily crop he didn't like with her; the stone club came down mostly harmlessly on the tree, skimming off a chunk of bark. "Well? How about it?" she asked, swinging the club a little harder once more - getting some pleasant splintering of wood for her efforts. He didn't look quite so impressed.
