She supposed there was no time like the present to try her theory out though. She started to crawl on her hands and knees, trying to ignore how cold and damp this tunnel was, or how rough the pebbles were under her hands. She held her flashlight in her teeth- even if it wasn't pointing straight ahead, the reflected light was still enough to see by in a space this tight. It turned enough that she'd only be able to see a few feet ahead of her at a time anyway. But who knew- maybe there was a lot of good stuff in here? Some of these pebbles were pretty glittery, after all. Maybe she'd be able to find a few gems or a couple more pieces of ore down this tunnel. Or she'd just reach a dead end and have to turn around. She was hoping it wasn't the latter, however.

Despite its tiny appearance, this crack in the wall was bigger than she thought. Fiera had to have been crawling for a minute at least, with Madison sitting patiently on her back. At least the candy corn bat was small enough that a tunnel this size didn't squish her, though Fiera was feeling a little cramped by now. She couldn't even sit down properly to take a rest- her only option was to back up or keep going. At least there was enough room for her to keep her tail held up so it wouldn't drag and get covered in dirt. "How you doing up there, Madison?" She remarked casually. Even though Madison didn't know her own name yet, she still chirruped happily at the sound of Fiera's voice. The humanish supposed she had an affection for sounds, being a bat. If only there were more for her to listen to down here.

As Fiera crawled, she was pretty sure she could see something up ahead in the tunnel. She grumbled and moved her head down, trying to take the flashlight out of her mouth. It was a very awkward position, but Fiera managed to use her mouth and hand to get the flashlight to point straight ahead. Sure enough, there was something up ahead- a sort of yawning darkness. Fiera felt a thrill of excitement go through her- did this crack open up some more up ahead? Thank goodness! Her knees were hurting so badly by now. She wasn't wearing knee pads at all, and had just been crawling straight on the stone floor. She tried to shove the flashlight back in her mouth awkwardly- and spat it back out again after realizing that her hands had gotten grit all over it. Disgusting! She tried wiping it off on her shirt, though she nearly dropped it in the process.

Finally, Fiera was able to start moving again, crawling toward that gap. As she approached however, she could feel the tunnel get more and more narrow. Great, that was just what she needed. Even Madison hunkered down on her back, cheeping quietly. Fiera's ears finally brushed each side of the wall, and she could feel how rough it was on their sensitive tips. "Come on, just a little further..." She grumbled, pushing forward. Soon, the gap was in sight, even with her poor illumination. It definitely opened up, she could tell- it was just a matter of reaching it! Fiera forged ahead with fresh determination, even though the stone was brushing her shoulders now. She urged Madison up onto one shoulder and turned sideways, determined to reach her goal. The candy corn bat squeaked irritably but stayed where she was told- mostly because the lead meant that she couldn't really run away.

Her head came out first, ears popping back up around her face- she was relieved enough that she was finally able to drop the flashlight. Then, Fiera managed to wiggle her shoulders through the hole, throwing her arms out ahead of her. "Ugh, FINALLY." She groaned. Madison crawled through after her, and if the noises she was making where any indicator, she agreed completely. Then, Fiera managed to drag herself forward enough that she was able to get her legs out- and her tail came too, curling around her elegantly as usual. Fiera picked up the flashlight, running her fingers through the fur on her tail. "Ugh, absolutely filthy." She grumbled. "I'll have to brush it for hours when I get home!" She lamented, but to be fair she usually spent hours doing that anyway. A mining adventure wasn't different from any of the other excuses she used to spend hours on her hygiene.

Once she was done whining, Fiera retrieved her flashlight from the ground, ready to see what this chamber held in store for her. She shone it around and... it really was just a tiny chamber. It was no bigger than her bathroom at home, albeit without the bathtub and the cabinets. And of course without any windows. She shone her light upward- the chamber narrowed to a point about fifteen feet up. At least it had high ceilings? Then, there was the main point of focus- a giant crystal growing from the floor! Fiera crept toward it with fascination, her inherent greed bubbling up in her chest. She KNEW she crawled in here for a reason! What a perfect find, this thing was massive! She was practically drooling. It was about three feet high, made of white crystal with a slight blue tint to it, just jutting up from the floor.

This strange hot pink crystal feels... Empty. However, there is a nice green-veined piece of turqoise nearby as well!

Fiera began giggling madly to herself, as there DEFINITELY wasn't anyone who could hear her in here. She rushed forward with her pick axe already in her hand, as if it had been teleported there. Madison settled herself on Fiera's shoulder as the humanish got ready to mine, lifting it above her head. She brought it down on the crystal, as hard as she could- and nearly sent the pick axe straight through her face when it glanced off toward her. She yelped, dropping it, her catlike reflexes being the only thing that kept her from getting impaled. The axe clattered to the floor with a metallic noise, incredibly loud in this small, hard room. She stoof there in disbelief for a moment, panting. What just happened? She definitely hit it, right? She rewound and played back the events of the past five seconds in her head, like a flashback.

Was this crystal... just really that hard? She gave it a few test taps with her pick axe while thinking... some crystals really could be that hard. She hadn't seen one yet, but...she went to get her mallet out. Lets see if this would work... she struck it as hard as she could from the side, but the wooden mallet only glanced off, bouncing into the opposite wall. She cringed, hoping that it didn't break. When she checked it, it had no cracks, but Fiera decided not to give that any more tries. Maybe she could... just take the whole thing with her? That'd work! She dropped her mallet on the ground, and got out her pick axe again. If it was too hard to crack pieces off of the crystal, she'd just dig the whole thing out of the ground! This plan was sure to be fool proof!

The ground here was definitely a bit harder than the sedimentary stone outside. Still for Fiera, that only meant that it was 'regular difficulty' to chip away at, as opposed to the soft as sand stone that made up the canyon walls outside. As a result, while it took her a while, it wasn't as difficult as one might think to dig out the crystal. After a few minutes, it was standing up on a tiny little pillar of stone, only a few inches around. Fiera set her pick axe aside, leaning it against the wall. She was satisfied with her progress. She could take it from here, she thought while cracking her knuckles. Then, she raised her foot and stomped on the crystal as hard as she could, trying to break it from its moorings. A few stomps later, she heard a definite cracking from the base, and soon the giant gem began to tip.

Fiera watched victoriously as the giant piece of fancy rock fell to the ground, like a giant finally slain. Moving her hands from her hips, she raised her fists in joy, making some sort of happy noise to go with it. "We did it, Madison!" She said, even though Madison had nothing to do with it. "Let's get this out of here, huh Madison?" Fiera said, leaning down to pick up the crystal. Hoo boy. That was HEAVY, she realized as she struggled to lift it up. It was about three feet long- she supposed it weighed at least a hundred pounds like that. Finally, she could take it no longer and dropped it. "Ok maybe... maybe we can just shove it along until we get to the mine cart instead." She admitted, and started scooting it along the flat ground. That worked out a lot better, and it moved easily.

Then... the crystal met the exit crack. She tried moving it one way. She tried flipping it around and moving it the other way. She rotated it in a third direction just to be safe. But the more times she tried, the more a sinking realization bloomed up in her chest- it was just too darn big to fit through the exit. And Fiera knew it wasn't much wider through the crack either. She couldn't take it with her- and it had proven too tough to break into pieces too! Fiera wailed in disbelief, sinking to the ground. Madison gave an empathetic screech as well, though she couldn't possibly know what it meant. Great. What a waste of time. Fiera massaged her temple, looking at the hole she had just dug for pretty much no reason... until she noticed something sitting in it. She moved closer. Was this all a waste after all...?

Fiera scurried toward the hole on her hands and knees, desperate for anything to justify the effort she had just put in. Sure enough, there were a couple of smaller crystals sitting in the dust left behind by the useless large one. She sighed in relief, practically collapsing on the ground. She reached out and picked up the first one. It was bright green, with winding shades of a lighter, more limelike shade. It was lumpy, but kind of attractive like that. Its smoothness made the lumps and bumps pleasant to run ones' fingers over, instead of being rough and uncomfortable. Little lines of black made it look even fancier. If only Fiera knew what it was called! She shrugged, shoving it in her pocket. That was one more chunk of change for the hoard she had going on back in her mine cart! Now, what was this other one she had found...

Oh this was... interesting. The next gem was a dark pink, with lighter spots being a trick of the light more than anything. It was smooth and shiny, like a piece of glass, but with a solid heaviness that implied that it was anything but. Fiera thought at first that it was one of those magic crystals that she had been finding lately, but something about it felt... off. It didn't have that distinct thrumming sensation she got from all the other magic crystals. It didn't glow either, despite the odd sensation she was getting from it. In fact, it just felt.. empty. Not wrong per se, she didn't feel threatened by it, but it was as if the crystal was patiently waiting for something. Fiera put it in her pocket as well- she'd definitely have to do her research on this thing once she got back to her apartment.
