Pachee breeding was new to Fiera, she thought as she approached the breeding center by foot. She was experienced in breeding orbaru, (that is, she had bred orbaru a grand total of one time, but she would insist that she had a great deal of experience to anyone else) but Pachee? Never before. It wasn’t for a lack of desire- she thought the little mouthless plant monsters were adorable! And they were certainly quieter than orbaru, with their relentless booping. But unlike orbaru, she hadn’t had enough of them to breed until now. Her male she had procured from the abandoned pets adoption agency- a lucky find, in her opinion. Her female, on the other hand, had been a lot harder to find. She had finally bought one off of another citizen of the labs. So finally, after a lot of effort, she had finally obtained a breeding pair. She had them with her now, tucked under each arm, and could hear them sniffing through the bars of their pet carriers and scrabbling at the floors. She had been hoping they’d sleep through the journey, but there was just too much excitement for the pair to hold still.

The first of her Pachee was “Babes in Peril”, or just Peril for short. Back home, everyone gave race horses ridiculously long, fancy names. She was never much for horse racing, but she still enjoyed the naming schemes and decided to apply it to her own creatures because...well, why not. The abandoned pets adoption agency had listed this pachee’s original name as Peril, so it wasn’t difficult to extend it from there. In terms of personality... Fiera could see where he got the name from. He was ridiculously skittish and took forever to get used to anything. She had booked an extra long session in the breeding center for that reason. Chances are he was going to take a while to even go near the female, let alone complete the breeding. Fiera had made sure to bring plenty of reading material as a result. In terms of appearances however, Peril was very attractive. He was a purebred white pachee- usually a rarity, but one she had managed to snatch up. Instead of brown, his green spots were overlaid on a white background, fading out to yellow on his leaves. Needless to say, it was an attractive combination of colors.

The other pachee she had was in the carrier tucked under her right arm. Faint Impressions, or Faint for short, was Fiera’s very first female pachee, and she was determined to make the most of it by breeding her right away. Female pachee were usually frustratingly hard to get ones hands on, so when Fiera found one for sale by another citizen of the city, she was quick to snap it up- though it took some saving up first on Fiera’s part. She spent many an hour in the mines scrimping for enough credits to spend on Faint. She hadn’t had the female pachee long enough to get a bead on her personality. Frankly, the white female was a bit of an enigma. She seemed quite curious about everything, but didn’t have a strong attachment to anything. Fiera suspected it was just because she was new, however. She’d just have to keep an eye on her. Like Peril, Faint was also a white pachee, but with very slightly different colors. The green of Faint’s body was closer to a neon shade than Peril’s more naturalistic hues, and the yellow on her leaves was more washed out.

Fiera wasn't entirely sure what to expect out of the breeding. After all, she had never bred pachee before, but this pairing especially was unknown to her. They were both white pachee, so there was a pretty good chance they'd produce white offspring as well. However, she had heard of other people getting surprises when breeding particularly similar parents, so she wasn't going to set her heart on the obvious answer. Of course, she also wasn't going to count her proverbial chickens before they hatched. She still had the whole breeding to get through. For all she knew, the pair would hate each other and she wouldn't get any babies at all! Focusing on the task at hand was probably for the best- worry about the genetic results later. She shifted the carriers a bit higher in her arms as she approached the breeding center- it was a sweltering day today, and she was glad to get inside. She doubted the pachee would be in a breeding mood either in this heat. Thankfully, all breeding rooms in this place were carefully climate controlled for the best results, so she wouldn't have to worry about things going wrong because of the weather.

Rounding the corner, the breeding center finally came into view. It's walls and signs were bright, cheery, and inviting. While it was a little too cloying and cutesy for Fiera's taste, she supposed it matched the aesthetic of the creatures that frequented it well enough. Thankfully, this time she had thought to call ahead and schedule a breeding slot. No more waiting in line for her- she could just go up to the front desk and ask for her room. It was a relief, as last time she had done this she had been waiting for practically forever for a room to open up- if it did at all. If it weren't for a last minute cancellation, she likely would have been there for hours. Now, she opened the double doors with a foot, and strode past the line to the other receptionist, glancing at them smugly. The room was filled with the sound of people and animals, with well over a dozen breedable pets scattered around the reception area, both in crates and out, playing with each other or their owners. Fiera held her crates a little tighter- she didn't need her pachee getting stressed out by somebody else's overeager pets.

"Hello!" Fiera said cheerily to the receptionist, wearing a sugar-sweet smile. "I'm here for my two o' clock appointment?" The receptionist nodded and tapped at her computer. "Yes, I see you... two o clock appointment, to breed pachee, named... Babes in Peril and Faint Impressions?" The receptionist ended the statement as a question- Fiera supposed she wasn't used to the humanish's odd naming scheme. Yet. She intended to come back, after all. "Yes, that's us!" Fiera continued. "Is the room ready?" The receptionist pointed to a pair of push doors next to the reception desk. "Yep, should be all set up for you. Right through there, room 8 on the right." Fiera blew the receptionist a kiss and pushed her way through the doors. Nothing would stop her now! Let's see... two, four, six... She finally stopped in front of the door marked eight, and cracked it open, scooting her carriers inside. She closed it behind her, and finally let Peril and Faint out of their carriers. The two immediately went to sniff each other... before Peril bolted across the room, hiding in a pile of leaves. Faint stared after him, a little bit confused. Ah well, Fiera supposed that might happen.

Fiera decided to let them be, and flopped back into a chair next to the door, kicking the crates under a nearby table. She watched as Faint finally decided to move, and went sniffing after Peril. The room was quite different than the one designed for orbaru. While the orbaru playpens were filled with colorful plastic structures, cute toys, and even a sandbox, the pachee breeding room was more naturalistic in structure. Fake trees covered in real bark supported the ceiling, with notches cut into it for climbing. Piles of leaves (changed out every day) were scattered around the room for the couples to play and hide in. Sunlight filtered in through various skylights in the ceiling, giving them natural spots to bask in, and instead of sand there were several pits filled with fresh loamy soil for the pachee to absorb nutrients from. Along the wall was a table with some pamphlets and magazines, and a couple chairs for owners to sit in while they let their pets play. It was a wonderland for the plant creatures, and specially designed for their comfort. One of those pamphlets even revealed to Fiera that the breeding room ventilation system was even designed to spit pachee pollen back into the room so none was wasted.

Faint finally seemed to have found Peril, sniffing around the pile of leaves he had so thoroughly hidden himself in. Fiera watched with amusement as she dove in to find him, like foxes try to dive into mouseholes buried in snow in the winter. After a few tries, she seemed to hit upon something- or someone, the leaves not buckling out of the way like they did before. Peril came skittering out of the pile, scattering dozens of leaves behind him. Faint's ears perked up and she took off after him, perhaps thinking that they were playing a game of tag. If they were, Peril didn't know it, and he bolted around the room as fast as he could, with his ears pressed flat to his head. Eventually, Faint put on an extra burst of speed, closing the distance, leapt... and actually caught him, much to both of their surprise, sending the two spinning into a pile of dirt. Faint had him pinned to the ground, both of them breathing heavily as the female stood over him. Instead of struggling, Peril froze in terror... only for Faint to start grooming him, combing clods of dirt out from his white fur with her front feet.

Faint then moved him casually, shoving his locked up body out of the dirt pen and onto the clean floor. A few moments later the white female pachee had him pinned down again (though he had stopped struggling by this point), and was carefully combing his fur again, brushing the stubborn dirt onto the ground. That was good, Fiera supposed. Meant she wouldn't have to give them quite as long of a bath later. She was expecting some mess from the pollen of course, but not adding fresh dirt onto that pile would certainly help with cleanup. It also seemed to be calming Peril down, as she watched his breathing go from "this pachee is having a heart attack" to "just ran a 5K race". She'd take it- at least Peril wasn't trying to hide from Faint anymore. Fiera was glad the female had taken the initiative, it was making this all a whole lot easier. Faint continued like that for about fifteen minutes, going over Peril's body with careful strokes. Soon enough, the male's breathing had gone back to normal, and his body no longer seemed so tense. Instead of being paralyzed with fear, he was just... lying down.

After a few moments of that, Peril slowly but surely stood up again. Instead of trembling with fear however, he... seemed to be fine. That was about what Fiera had expected- he was the same way when she first adopted him. All consuming terror made him a coward at first, but once you got him to actually hold still and sit with you for a little while, he was more or less fine in a few minutes. He just needed to realize you weren't planning on killing him before he was able to get comfortable with you. He finally started sniffing at Faint, the two circling around each other and investigating the other for the first time since they had been let in here. Fiera let them get down to it, leafing through a book she had brought with her. Soon enough, there was a strange haze in the air- or at least she thought there was. She looked up and sure enough, Peril was releasing pollen, flooding the air with it, with Faint getting pretty much covered in it. Fiera sighed with relief- this breeding session hadn't been nearly as painful as she- or Peril- thought it was going to be.

Oh, this pale male resembles both of his parents, doesn't he?
