Ashe slid those leaves into his pocket with the other one he had already, making sure that one was still in there while he was at it. The little pumpkin guy was still chasing after Charon when Ashe looked back up, and the dragon was hovering just off the ground, trying to keep the pumpkin's attention. It was all fun and games for the little guy; if he got uncomfortable, he could just float on back to Ashe and stay out of harms way, huh? What a little cheater. Ashe rolled his eyes in good natured humor and opened the door completely this time. No more distractions, he was getting into that next room! He called for Charon, who bobbed up to Ashe's head level in a matter of seconds, and proceeded into the room. This one looked more like a bedroom than anything else, but it was missing the bed. Maybe some sort of storage?

Ashe first did a perimeter check around the room, walking along the walls and just generally checking things out. He looked at the walls, touched the walls, looked behind the furniture like the big dresser for example - he would look inside soon, but right now just the perimeter. He made his way back to the door and hadn't seen anything that interesting, no more leaves hiding in corners or syrup monsters waiting for an opportunity to lunge out at him. He gestured around the room, looking at Charon. "Feel free to explore, bud. I don't see anything in here, but maybe you'll find something."
And that was when he noticed the door. Or rather, the absolute lack of a door handle on this side. And the door was shut! Ashe hurried back over to it and tried to open the door... But it had pushed in! Which meant it pushed shut, not pushing open back into the other room. Were they really stuck in here now?

Charon looked mildly alarmed, but to be fair he didn't have many worried. He was already trapped in an amulet and he was more than happy just to be free for the time being. Ashe had no idea what time was like inside an amulet; could Charon see what was going on outside? Was an hour of time out here the same as an hour of time in there? Or was it blissfully quick inside that thing, like a pause button? He hoped it was more like that and less like the torture chamber of one hour equals one hour. He would feel terribly sorry for making Charon stay inside so much, if that was the case.
"Well, maybe there's something in here we can use?" He suggested, looking around. He walked over to the dresser, one of those large three drawer wide things, with three down as well. A lot of drawers to check out! Better get started. He pulled the first drawer open.

The first drawer was empty, but now that Ashe was closer to it, he was able to feel a hum coming from somewhere over here. Maybe the next drawer? He shut the one he had first opened, with a creak and a jiggle when it got stuck, then he went on down to the next one. He placed his hands on the next drawer and it was as if he could feel something vibrating in there, something that went straight from the wood and into his hand, down his arm. The hairs on that arm started to stand upright, sensing that there was something about to come. But what exactly? He hadn't felt like this since the mining shaft, when he had found -
Was it really? A crystal? Sensing his excitement building, his little amulet beasty flew over to him and hovered right in front of the drawer, eager to see what was inside! It could be treasure!

"Who wants to go for a walk?" Ashe asked, with extra excitement and enthusiasm in his voice than usual, specifically to rile the Vulticus up. Large as he was, Raven was just a big puppy, as most were, even Caves. He woofed and wagged his tail, and let Ashe clip on the leash. Not that the leash could actually do anything if he happened to fancy taking off running suddenly- Ashe could hold him back with difficulty, but the leash would snap-, but it gave them both a little bit of the idea that Ashe was the one in charge. Raven was a good boy, though, and padded alongside Ashe, happy to be out in the crisp, fresh air. They were quite a pair to be seen together; impressive black Cave Vulticus with a human clad entirely in black as well. He had black boots, black jeans, a black tee-shirt under a black duster jacket. His hair was black, too. Together, they would blend into the darkness; however, this was broad daylight, and they stood out like a blight when they reached the Mansion, whose grounds were... in full bloom as if this was spring? Ashe had never seen the grounds this colorful, this full of plant life. Normally, when he ended up at the Mansion, it was either sand and ocean, or a graveyard - those were his two favorite times, spanning three or four months. He was usually tired and had a sort of seasonal depression by the time Vai Min Mur ended, so he didn't go out much after that until spring hit. But he was feeling great, and Raven was feeling great, so they were here together. "Wanna look around?" Ashe asked his big puppy dog, who woofed at him and wagged his tail, nose already dropping to the ground. He paced a bit, following scent trails that Ashe could neither see nor smell, but he had faith that they were there despite that fact. Raven paused, sniffing hard at a particular spot that, to Ashe, just looked like a clump of grass, but hey who was he to judge? He waited patiently until Raven was done and started moving again, off to the next clump.

Ashe followed Raven as he started to explore some of the flowers. He stuck his head into a cluster of these weird looking yellow flowers- should Ashe even be allowing him to touch these things? What if they were poisonous, or worse, magical?. The great big black Vulticus withdrew his head and shook himself, his fur now tinged with yellow pollen in some spots. He sneezed once, twice, then started to move on again. Everything seemed oddly peaceful here, and Ashe was seriously starting to doubt life right now. Had he slept all fall and winter and it was spring? Or was this the Mansion's way of dealing with the seasonal depression so many people got? Ashe wondered these things as they walked, now heading toward a bloodred flower all by itself. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, something was not quite right, but he couldn't put a finger on what it was, so he didn't say anything. He was just being weird.

Raven was busy sniffing around the base of the red plant when Ashe caught movement out of the corner of his eye. It was slightly startling, considering the fact that he thought he was alone out here, though the breeze could have easily made a plant move around, leaves flapping or petals lifting. But this had seemed different, like it was something bigger. He glanced around, casually wondering what kind of beasties were out here during this season. But he didn't see anything at all, just flowers and plants and a tree. So he shrugged his shoulders, figuring it was just a trick of his eye or his paranoia taking over.
A shiver went down his spine, feeling like he was being watched. He told himself that that was silly, it was only because he thought there was something there, that he felt like there was something there. Really, there was nothing. He told himself this over and over, trying to make himself believe it, but there was always that hint, that shadow...

And then it happened. The red plant in front of them launched itself at Raven, its petals turning into fangs, its leaves into arm-like appendages. Raven yelped and leaped back, startled. You would be, too, if something that was supposed to be an inanimate object in your world suddenly lunged at you! Ashe pulled on the leash a bit to get Raven to back up even more, and the Vulticus quickly followed his lead. He growled low in his throat, his eyes on the red plant. Then suddenly he tensed and jumped to the side with a snarl-bark, making Ashe jump with its sudden ferocity. "What the-?" He broke off, seeing what Raven saw. There was another plant monster prowling the grounds, this one with a yellow head and long viney arms. So Ashe had seen something moving out there! He didn't have much time to feel relieved that he wasn't seeing things, wasn't going crazy. They were being attacked! Ashe tugged on the leash again and urged Raven toward the Mansion door.

Together, the pair ran for the door. Ashe knew where he was going; Raven was just following after Ashe, and with his large strides he quickly overtook his master and reached the door first. He skidded to a halt before the steps, then leaped up the three steps in one bound, but he nearly crashed into the closed door because he was a large fluffy bulk of a monster, and the steps to the tiny porch wasn't built for creatures like him. He wagged his tail and waited, turning to look at Ashe and see what the hold up was. Ashe was trying, but his human legs were no competition for Vulticus legs! He made it, ran up the steps, and grabbed the door handle. At first, he thought the door wouldn't budge, but he just hadn't turned the handle all the way. He let go, tried again, and the door swung open easily, inviting them inside to safety. Hopefully, it was safety they were walking in to.

Ashe shut the door behind him in case the plants could see their prey and weren't just reacting to the movement or heat or some sort of pheromone when living things got too physically close. He wasn't sure; he hadn't been able to see eyes on either one, but that certainly didn't mean they didn't have genetically modified eyes hidden somewhere, or some other sense that would serve as eyes. For all he knew, some mad scientist was able to control them and was watching Ashe through a camera hidden on the outside of the mansion! Why the sudden thought about scientists, you ask? Well, because Ashe seemed to have stumbled right into the middle of a mad scientist's laboratory. Well, maybe not the middle of, because this was just the entrance. But it was white tile and florescent lighting and everything looked clinical. Raven was having a hard time walking properly, because his big paws kept slipping. His claws clinked lightly as he walked.

Raven was having the toughest of times. His weight only made things worse, as he shifted to walk, different legs would slide out from under him and he would struggle to catch himself, or fall onto his belly. One time, he slipped and landed on his stomach and he just laid there, looking at Ashe pitifully. The man walked over and patted him on the head. "Chin up, Raven. Maybe the floor is different further inside?" Ashe looked ahead, but saw only this annoyingly clinical tile floor, a floor that would be easy to clean up spills, but that you would need grippy shoes to walk on without accident. But hey, if you had an accident, it would be easy enough to clean up, right? He hoped Raven would be able to figure it out and learn how to walk in a modified manner. He walked on ahead, urging his big puppy onward, and that's when he noticed them. - a pair of gloves, and a pair of coins.

One of the coins was on the palm of the gloved hand. He wondered if that meant something, maybe like placing a quarter on top of a washing machine or a pool table in a public location to signal you were next? Like, maybe these gloves belonged to a scientist and someone was claiming them to use on the next experiment? But Ashe didn't care so much, he was much more interested in grabbing things. He could be a thief here and have no repercussions! If he was allowed to have it, it stayed in his pocket or bag. If he wasn't, then it disappeared as soon as he left the property. It was a weird kind of magic, really.
Raven, from his spot on the ground, saw Ashe take notice of something, which meant he had to take notice and investigate as well. He hauled himself up and, with a certain degree of care and delicacy, he walked over to take a sniff at those red gloves.
