It seemed like they both relaxed when they realized that these gloves were not going to come to life like the flowers outside had. Raven sniffed again, his ears perking, then relaxing, then swiveling. The gloves made no sound, though he sniffed once too hard and his breath shifted a coin; it clinked on the table, which startled Ashe, who couldn't see much of what was going on, and also Raven, who wasn't expecting a sound of any kind. He growled low in his throat and looked around, but relaxed his tense muscles when he didn't see any immediate threat to himself or his master.
Ashe walked over, also careful because he had on boots instead of grippy shoes, and picked up the coins. He felt the heft of them, wondering to himself if they were worth anything or if they were like the leaves and other such things that he could make wishes with in the well. He pocketed them, knowing that either way, he wanted them for himself.

Ashe picked up the gloves next and tested the fabric. If they were flimsy one-use disposable ones, he might pass, but if they had some heft to them like some real scientist gloves, then he would be interested in keeping them! Maybe even wearing them right now and acting like a real scientist himself. It was fun to pretend.
The gloves, as it turned out, were pretty decent. They felt thick and sturdy, like he could lift beakers and also dip his hands into mystery fluids and they would hold up. He waved them in the air, teasing, in the direction of Raven. The great big mutt perked his ears, then flattened them against his skull, deciding he didn't like the chemical smell of rubber that Ashe was stirring up into the air. "Ah, shush," Ashe told him dismissively. He started to put the gloves on, pulling them up past his wrists. They seemed to go nearly to his elbows, so he was feeling very scientific when he was done!

The snap of the gloves echoed through the hallway, sounding pretty loud simply because of the silence in here. No hum from machines, even a heater - no sounds from outside, no water running or fire crackling. In the past months, just existing has created some sort of presence of sound, but this, not so much. Ashe reached out to pet Raven, but the Vulticus slipped away, still not keen on those gloves. Ashe shrugged, slightly insulted but not letting it show, and started to walk down the hallway. Raven, of course, followed him, sniffing at the floor or the wall occasionally. He seemed a bit worried himself, as if he couldn't find a smell and he kept checking periodically.
As Ashe emerged into the first room, which looked for all the world like a disease testing lab of some sort, he became aware of two things; the ~sense~ that something of value was in here, and the soft sound of creatures moving around. He came to a halt and took a look around.

Ashe was immediately drawn to the source of the sound. He looked over and saw two little mice, a black and a white one, running around in circles. At first, he thought they were attacking each other, and then he thought they were playing. He still wasn't sure what they were doing when he took a step closer, and was able to see the beady red eyes on the white mouse. Albino? Or straight up evil? Ashe wasn't a color genetics master in any sense of the word, and honestly thinking of the white mouse as evil, instead of the good slash light element white was normally associated with, was more fun. The black would of course be good instead of the usual evil and shade associated with that color. Team black mouse!
They both stopped when Ashe and Raven entered the room and approached. At first, the man worried he'd caused the problem, but a shift of fur on tile made him remember who he was with, and he realized it was probably the huge doggo that was right behind him, that intimidated the mice. He stood still, hoping they wouldn't try to attack or, worse, run away.

That was when he noticed what they were running around. Four silver coins were shining brilliantly under these blindingly bright, unforgiving lights. Ashe's eyes sparkled as he stared at them; coins, coins of any kind, were generally worth something, even if that worth wasn't obvious at first. Metal shaped into coins was a currency that rarely lost its worth, and sometimes became worth even more as time went on. He held a hand up, wanting Raven to stay put where he was, while Ashe approached the mice and the coins, trying to sneak closer without scaring the tiny guardians.
Raven did as he was asked to and stayed in place. It was hard; he saw prey, he saw squeaky toys, and he wanted to go sniff them and maybe bite them and play with them! Surely they'd want to play, too, right? But Ashe told him to stay put, and he was a good boy, so he stayed put. His tail swished with interest as he watched Ashe's approach, and his ears were pointed constantly forward, listening for any sounds from either of them.

The mice eyed Ashe with alarm as he got closer, a little too close for comfort, and they squeaked a warning for him to stay back. For a second, Ashe wondered the chances of these mice being scientific experiments that were capable of shooting laser beams out of their eyes, or maybe having super strength or a venomous bite. Or maybe they were injected with some contagious disease that humans could contract! All these very scary thoughts sent a thrill down his spine; living on the edge was always fun, until you accidentally got killed, or got some sort of disease in an unfun way, and you could no longer have sex because you could pass it on...
Raven pranced in place, two large paws shifting his weight from side to side. He slipped once, when he wasn't paying close enough attention. He'd been learning how to walk on this type of flooring pretty well, but he was too excited over the mice to focus fully on the task at hand. After that first slip, he tried to hold himself together better.

The very thought sent a shudder through Ashe's spine. Maybe he shouldn't risk it? He knelt down and offered a hand out to the mice. "Sorry I don't have any cheese or peanut butter or something, I can't offer you food, but I'm not going to hurt you..."
The mice perked up a little at the sound of his voice, their little tiny noses twitching and their whiskers waving madly like a heavy mustache on an angry man's lip. They were cute, though Ashe wasn't that fond of cutesy things that much. He did know he wanted to befriend them, however, so he gestured with his hand again. They didn't approach, at least not at first.
This was absolutely killing Raven, to not be involved in this game or whatever Ashe was doing with the mice. The man had his hand out - why did he have his hand out? Was there a treat in his hand? Was he giving Raven's treats to the mice?! He made a deep whine in his throat, wanting that attention for himself. But Ashe kept the focus on the mice.

The pair of mice seemed to come to a decision, finally. Curiosity killed the cat, but would it kill the mouse? Together, almost as one, almost as if they were mirror images of each other, they moved. One went to the right, one went to the left, and both ended up at different sides of Ashe's palm. Their little noses were twitching like mad, sniffing all over the back of Ashe's hand for anything enticing, then they rose up on their hind legs together to peer over his palm at one another. Inquisitive faces touched and explored his palm; one mouse also looked at the thumb, the other looked at the pinkie. Together, seeming to have come to the same conclusion at the same time or at least having taken subtle cues from each other somewhere along the way, they hopped up onto his palm. They touched noses with each other, then explored the flattened hand, searching for goods.
Raven's ears shot up when he saw the mice on Ashe's hand! The whine got more intense, demanding attention, but it was an undesired reaction.

Since he didn't want Raven to get into the habit of whining and getting what he wanted, Ashe did his best to ignore it, to ignore Raven. Not rewarding the whine with attention. He focused instead on the mice and raised his hand closer to his face. He hoped they were bonding right now, the three of them, and soon they would let Ashe put them into his pocket or something, so he could take them with him. They were pretty relaxed and casual in his hand, so they were at least on the right track. No trembling, no worry, just chilling and looking around in that I'm-a-mouse-and-I'm-always-busy kind of way. Ashe left them alone for a few more minutes, simply watching them move around, then he stood up.
Raven fell silent when his plea for attention didn't work. He wanted to take a step forward so bad that he lefted a leg and started to move forward, but he thought otherwise and put his leg back down, before the paw had touched the ground. His tail drooped, at a loss.

The white one looked over the side of his hand, and Ashe worried he might try to commit suicide by jumping. The black one followed suit on the other side, again reinforcing the idea that they were mirrors to each other, like clones except more opposites. He quickly moved his hand to his pocket, before they could truly jump, and he let them slide from his skin into the open cloth. This was a jacket pocket, pretty roomy, not a skinny jeans pocket, so he thought they'd be fine. He might have to get the mouse poop out of it later... Yuck.
With the mice safe now, Ashe beckoned to Raven for him to come closer. The Cave padded over, carefully picking up and placing each paw. He was getting relatively decent at it, cutting down his slippage until it was hardly noticable. He nuzzled his head against Ashe's side and chest, which Ashe thought was cute and sweet, until he realized where the muzzle was going. Right toward the pocket with the mice! Ashe poked it out of the way with a finger, shaking his head.

"uh-uh! Nice try, big guy, but no." He pushed until the fang filled muzzle was at a safe distance. Raven got the message and cast one more side long glance at the pocket, then relented and sighed, looking away. His ears swiveled around, listening - and suddenly pinned as he whipped his bulk around, nearly slipping on the tile floor in his haste.
Ashe turned to see what the issue was- and as he turned, he saw the coins out of the corner of his eye. He'd nearly forgotten to scoop them up! Trusting Raven to cover him if an attack happened, he quickly knelt and scooped the coins up, adding them to the pocket with the others in it, then he straightened and turned to check out the danger.
A robot puppy stood there, blocking their exit from the way they'd entered! Not that Ashe planned on going back to the main door any time soon, but you never know, right? He hadn't even scoped the room to make sure there were other doors, but there had to be. Now he had this robot staring at them, ready to start beeping or something!

The robot dog yipped at them, with that higher pitched robotic voice that couldn't quite copy the real thing. Ashe watched it for signs of aggression, but if he wasn't mistaken, this thing seemed like it wanted to play, not fight. Could a robot dog be lonely? Was that possible? He considered it for a moment, but Raven acted before Ashe could. He approached the robot, tail wagging, and crouched down to attempt to get on its level. That was near impossible for Raven to accomplish, though, since the robo dog was so small and even Raven's head was so big. But he tried, bless his big heart.
The robo puppy yipped at Raven again, and Raven did a little play-jump, splaying his forelegs (which started to slide and nearly sent him face first into the tile). The robot dog yipped again and wagged its tail, its robot ears moving. It was cute in a weird way. Was this the kind of lab it was? Not experiments, but building robots? Ashe just about pouted at the revelation.

Raven and the puppy seemed to somehow be communicating just fine, despite all the barriers that faced them. Raven nudged the robot with his nose, wagged his tail, and woofed, and the robot puppy seemed to be attempting to mimic him. It moved its head back, trying to nudge the much larger creature, and it wagged its tail, and yipped. It even mastered a more complicated action, similar to Raven's pouncy prance that he did. Soon they would be chasing each other around, Ashe thought, which might be a sight to see considering the puppy probably couldn't run too well, and Raven couldn't run at all on this slippery surface. They might end up in one big dog pile!
Ashe decided to peruse the room while they were at their games. He walked around, checking out the counters and looking at the stuff set up there. He checked beakers and test tubes and what the hell ever else there was; he was a nosey guy, no doubt about that!
