Ashe had no idea what was going on, but it looked like an understanding had passed between the dragon and his vulticus. Raven moved to completely protect Ashe, spreading his paws for a wider stance, harder to move. Then the dragon sprinted toward them, and Ashe wanted to yell at Raven to get out of the way, to look out. He himself was ready to dodge out of the way too. But Raven wasn't listening, he sprinted forward to meet the dragon. A surge of protectiveness shot through him. He must protect his human, even if it meant fighting a robot! He let loose a feral snarl and ran on, his paws skating over the tiles. Momentum and lightfootedness kept him upright - as long as he didnt stop. He probably couldn't stop, either. Couldn't change direction. It was all or nothing. Ashe watched with baited breath, worried for his Vulticus and also excited to watch the event unfold.

The dragon charged at the Vulticus, showing teeth as they bared down on each other. It snapped for a moment and then, at the last second, it leapt over the Vulticus and skidded to a stop in front of the man. It barked a laugh and then bowed it's head to him before laying down and licking it's paw.
[Congratulations, you've tamed the dragon!]

Oh shit. The dragon leaped over Raven and landed near Ashe, able to move on the tile without the slippery issues Raven had. Ashe reached for his nodes, ready to fight, but the dragon seemed to lose all of its aggressiveness. It even bowed down and became docile. Freaking sweet! Ashe smirked, pleased, and looked over to Raven, eager to share in the victory. It had been his pup, after all, that had done the work! Ashe reached down and patted the dragons head, then headed over to collect the coins. He scooped them up and pocketed them.
Raven was having a hard time. The dragon had leaped over him, which at first he'd thought meant failure, so he'd tried to stop and turn around, which knocked him off balance and his feet couldn't find purchase on the tile. His claws clicked and scraped in the little crevices between tiles, and he lost his balance and fell over, still sliding.

Raven finally slowed to a stop. He was laying on his stomach with his hind legs bent under him, and his front legs splayed as he tried to keep control. He'd done half a spin so he wasnt even sure where he was facing. A little disoriented, he stood up gently, only slipping once, and shook himself. This tile wasnt as bad as the first room, but still, fast movement was too much for Raven's balance. Once he was steady, he turned to face Ashe, his hackles rising at the thought that the dragon might be hurting him or worse. They settled and flattened when he saw the dragon submitting to Ashe. That was a relief! Unexpected but relieving. He relaxed and walked over to his human, padding softly on the tile. He wagged his tail in greeting when Ashe reached out and scratched behind an ear, and gave a warning look to the dragon, who seemed to be ignoring the wolf.

GghgIt was time to resume the exploration of the mansion. Ashe started forward, crossing the room, looking all over for goodies. He figured he needed a few more coins, if o bbn ly he could find a large stash of them somewhere. He wondered why there were coins this month, he thought it was kind of odd. Unless they had some scientific meaning behind them that Ashe was just too far out of the loop to understand. He walked over to the first counter he saw and started checking out the vials and centrifuge that were carefully placed there. They were all empty, however, so it wasnt interesting enough to hold his attention.
Raven went with him, sticking to his side like glue. Who was able to say if another dragon or monster was going to pop out at them? Hopefully there was nothing else lurking in the area. Raven would make sure to win this time, if there was!

Ashe didnt find anything else interesting in that room, so he found himself wandering toward the door before he knew what was happening. He'd certainly found some interesting things, such as the robot puppy and the dragon, but he felt like there was so much more just waiting to be found! So he went though the first door he found, without much thought. Raven followed after him without a second thought to where they were going, too. Together, they discovered that the room was pitch black, just as the door shut behind them. Ashe started, taking surprise when he realized that, no, he hadn't gone blind all of a sudden, they were just in a dark room. This could very well be a storage closet for all they knew! He should have checked it out first. He tried to backstop and reach for the door to get back out, maybe she'd some light from that room into this one. But the door wasnt there.

The door wasn't there and Ashe couldn't even feel a wall like he usually could when the doors disappeared. If there was no wall, there was little hope for finding a light switch by the door either! He tried to think, instead of jumping to conclusions. The Mansion was said to be dangerous and full of wild magic but so far nothing had been done to Ashe in all of his visits here that suggested the mansion was a mean spirited or violent place. Chaotic, yes, but not cruel. So this was a harmless prank or a joke, and not something meant to trap them forever. Worst case scenario, he figured, they could wait until the next months cycle. Though Ashe had never been in the mansion when it switched over... so he didnt know for sure if he would be transported to a different dimension or whatever happened.
Suddenly, raven yelped real loud - and Ashe realized he'd stepped on his tail.

"Sorry, Raven!" Ashe apologized, reaching out to scratch his head and neck in apology. He quickly moved his offending foot off of the poor tail, and scratched some more. "I couldn't see you, especially since you're so dark. Sorry boy. Help me look for the light." It felt like Raven had sat down next to Ashe while the man felt around his surroundings, which would explain why his tail was near Ashe's foot. He felt bad, but knew Raven was a tough boy and would recover. He started to carefully move around, looking for a switch. Looking for a wall first, of course! He walked and walked, bumping into tables and knocking unknown things over. Finally, he found a wall, and he pressed against it fanning his arms out until finally- click! And the lord said let there be light! And there was. Ashe winced at the sudden brightness and kept his eyes half shut while they adjusted. Then, he looked around.

Somehow, Jack had a bunch of Hara. It blew Ashe's mind at the amount she had been selling let alone what she must be keeping! Ashe had bartered for one little monochromatic princess, knowing that Kizulle, for all of her happiness, was rather lonely at heart and would love a sister. While it did not feel strange to Ashe himself, the thought of buying and selling sentient creatures, on top of the unease going on around these holidays, was not lost on him. He hoped the little Hara hadn't understood the process. He walked into the boundary of the Mansion, feeling the magic wash over him in a gentle wave. Things were just different here, a chaotic madness ticking just below the surface. He could tell the little Hara - he'd named her Morgana - could feel it too. He held her in his hand, where she was seated with her legs swinging over the side of his palm. She was uneasy, as any new creature would be with a new master, but Ashe hoped she would relax after they spent some time together. The weather was cold, so they had bundled up appropriately. Ashe was wearing a thick wool jacket that kept the wind out, and had soft fleecey material inside to contain his body heat. It was black, of course, and he had it buttoned to his throat, where he had a black scarf tucked in to protect his neck and lower portion of his face. He'd dressed his little fairy in a poofy coat, Hara size, made customized to fit the species in particular, and bought just for her. She didnt appear to be cold, wings tucked inside the coat for now. Her hair blew gently in the breeze that stirred the snowflakes. A snow storm had dropped a few inches of the glittery white coldness on the ground the night before, and now Ashe was thankful for his boots, which were waterproofed and came up to his mid calf, which would keep melting snow from filling it inside.

Gloves covered the hands, including the one that Ashe held Morgana in, to keep fingers from breaking off. He was thankful, because his ears weren't as protected, and they were already getting cold.
The world was silent. No one else appeared to be out and about. Ashe didnt see any footprints or hear any voices, at least. He hadn't seen other people in the Mansion while he was there ever before, come to think of it. Was that a trick by the mansion, hiding the other people from view? Or was that simply the fair timing Ashe had, arriving right after the last person left? He didnt know. He supposed he could scope out the entrance someday and find out, but he didn't care that much about a passing thought. He wanted some alone time with his new daughter, anyway. Looking down at her, he wondered, why did he think of these things as children? They could be any age, and they were still children to him.

Snow crunched under his boots as he walked. The cold wind seemed to pick up and it stung his face, despite the waning sunlight. That meant it was only going to get worse as they went on; Ashe found that the more clear the sky was, the colder it was, wind or no wind, and the sky was pretty clear right now. Clouds in the far distance and if he wasn't mistaken, they were going away from their current location. He shifted his hand, accidentally making Morgana grab for a finger to steady herself. "Sorry, sorry. Just trying to, well. Sorry." He'd been trying to get his hand into a comfortable position for the long haul, while also keeping it closer to his body for added warmth. The little fairy girl turned to give him a look, then she settled back down and looked around again. Ashe pressed on, heading for the Mansion itself. Why stay outside in this wasteland, when he could go inside?

The crunch of the snow under Ashe's boots were the only sound, save for the whistle of the wind through the dead trees. It felt lonely, somehow. More so than, say, the sound of silence on a beach or in a desert. The cold, crisp air didn't muffle anything, like heated air did, but instead gave the impression of a vast expanse... all empty. "This is the season for snuggling by a fire, naked, under a blanket," Ashe muttered. And when his new daughter looked at him, he paled and then flushed. "To conserve body heat, you know. The fire can only do so much." She gave him a look one last moment, then she turned back to the snow. It was really pretty, and really bright, sparkling in the last rays of sunlight. It looked almost like pastel lava in some places, where the sun hit it hardest. She knew better, though, and looked only from above.
