The cross was on her shoulder, having not learned anything yet of course, and there was a pouch of little strawberry slices on her hip for him. He was her familiar! Part of her remembered seeing a little bird next to her mother a lot, and wondered if that was the sort of thing that was, but at the same time, it might just be a Labs thing. Jack shrugged, almost letting Tok topple from her shoulder, but she caught him in time so he didn't hit the ground. The woman chuckled at his chittering, upset with her for a little bit until she gave him a strawberry slice, which he happily shoved into his mouth to eat up. She already loved him, that was sure, and he loved her, but he liked to scold her often. It wasn't her fault he was small enough for her to almost sit on, he should know better by now not to sit in her favorite spot! Jack laughed and Tok scampered down her arm into her hand, licking her fingers to get the juices off. [Jack: 1/20 Tok: 1/5]

Jack wiggled her fingers a little at the little halfbreed with a smile on her face. This had been the best choice she'd made in a long time she thought, he was so unique! Of course he had his sibling, but she had let Renathan have him after he'd expressed interest, and she only had use for one of them, little Tok, so she was happy to let the other one go. Tok didn't seem to miss his sibling either, it was a good decision for them, it was better than letting his sibling sit there and rot in her kennel, she would rather it go to someone who would appreciate it. Look at her, she hadn't even bothered to check it's gender... She felt like an awful person, but then she looked down at Tok in her hand and realized it didn't matter too much. Already she was in love.

They needed to get to the house though, she couldn't just spend all of her time swooning over her familiar or anything. She smiled a little and tickled Tok under his chin before she shouldered him again and strode through the Labs, getting ready to find the house they were looking for so she could solve this mystery. It seemed odd, something was stealing tools from a work shed or something like that? Jack managed to scowl a little and she hurried a little faster, making sure Tok kept hold of her shoulder carefully as she went along, wondering what it could be that was taking things. Whatever it was, she was sure they could find out what it was, and she sighed a little as she looked over at Tok, wanting to just work with him for the moment and just do that. Smiling a little, she patted him on the head again, wondering what he was thinking.

After a few minutes of Tok scolding her for not giving him enough strawberries and her trying to calm him down a little, they finally reached the house and the woman knocked on the door. If they were going to camp out for a few nights, it was a good thing she had packed a bunch of things for camping in her bag, including a tent that was under the backpack she was carrying this time. It wasn't enough to dislodge the halfbreed from her shoulder, but that was fine at the same time. She enjoyed the fact that he had a little extra grip at the moment, and she smiled at him as she wondered what to do. Slowly the door creaked open and a person was standing on the other side, ushering them in and then looking around as if to make sure she hadn't been followed. Jack wondered what she had gotten them into.

The rabbit mammalian turned her to and peered out of the window near the door again before smiling a little, "Glad you could make it! Here's the details..." He then told her everything he knew, which, admittedly, wasn't a lot of it at the moment, but she was sure she and Tok would be able to figure something out. She asked to see the workshop and was led out the back of the house and into the little out building on the property. It wasn't secured very well, and there were holes in the walls that she could already see, so it wasn't odd that something was stealing her things. But that wasn't for her to say, though she did point out the holes and he promised to have them fixed before she stayed the night, just to make sure she could find whatever was stealing the tools. Jack smiled and stroked Tok's feathers, wondering what else to do.

It wasn't like she had any ideas of what it could be. It was the month of Vai Min Mur so it could be a spook. Plenty of people had ethereal pets she knew, so it could be something like that. But then how would they get the tools out? She frowned a little and started to set up her tent, letting Tok perch on her backpack as she set it up. It was a big enough tent for herself and something else, though Tok didn't take up much room or anything, so there would be plenty of room at this point. Just enough for her bag and a few other things she figured, and she smiled a little as she thought of it. It had been awhile since she had been camping, so it was going to be fun to figure things out for awhile. Jack just hoped that things would go well.

Nothing would go wrong with her and her familiar, would it? She needed to make out a training list as they sat and watched as well, she figured. Giving a little sigh, she finished pitching the tent and then spread out her sleeping bag inside of it. While she was going to have to stay awake at night for a few nights, she figured she would sleep during the day. At least she figured Tok would do the same, he was on her schedule, though it didn't matter if she slept and he stayed awake, he wouldn't wander too far unless she severed their bond, which wasn't going to happen too often, she figured. Smiling a little, she patted him on the head and then sat down in front of the tent and kept an eye on the workshop. Maybe it might take a few nights to get this figured out, but she really didn't know about that as of yet.

Jack was at home with Tok no matter where they were, which was good considering this was their first outing. Sure she could have picked something else, but she didn't know what else to pick at the moment, also, she didn't think she could be with him all the time no matter what, which is why she had learned the spell "Sever Bond", just in case she wanted to get away from him for awhile. There were days she wanted to be around him, there were days she wanted to be around him, there were days she really didn't at all times, but that was the issue with familiars she figured as she stroked his wings a little. Tok purred and nuzzled up to her hand for a little bit, and she hoped that meant he was content with things for the moment, before he started to scold her again that is, she figured.

Tok wasn't sure what was going to happen with this strange mission his mistress had told him about. Stick around outside and see if something was breaking into the little outbuilding from the house and then see if they could catch or dissuade it from coming back. He was a sharp little halfbreed, but he didn't see the appeal to coming out in the middle of the night to some strange area. This wasn't the best. Jack absently handed him one strawberry after another as he chittered at her, her eyes fixed on the building just in case something tried to slip in, and she hoped that Tok would understand what they were trying to do after awhile. All she could really do was hope at this point, but that was fine at the same time, and she stroked his feathers as she sat there, Tok on her shoulder as they waited.

Nothing was happening until she saw a sliver of movement out of the corner of her eye. Tok silenced himself automatically as she reached out with her magic and enveloped whatever it was in a sphere of water. Jack then shook it up and down, side to side, before throwing it out into the yard where it stumbled, fell, and then stumbled off, never to be seen again. That was quick, she figured with a low chuckle as she crawled into the tent. She supposed they wouldn't mind if she stayed there for the night anyway, it wasn't like they expected her to be done so quickly, she figured. But whatever it was, she doubted it was going to come back after tasting a little of her magic, few things would at this point. Jack smiled a little as Tok curled up next to her, and she wondered what they would have to do next.
