History and Destiny: Adam was the childhood Rival to Rickoli Morale, and his parents were on the council with Riku’s parents, who were the Co-Prime-Ministers of Aulador. The two of them were the same age, both being trained and expected to take Riku's Parent's political place when they retired. Adam was discovered to be a musical prodigy around the same time that Riku was discovered to be a magical prodigy. Neither of them had any interest in the other’s prodigal expertise, but were compared constantly and forced to get along while growing up, causing mutual resentment. Eventually, Adam was sent to another kingdom to study music more professionally while Riku was able to stay home to study magic with Aulador's arch mage. When Rickoli destroyed their kingdom, he assumed Adaman had been killed like the others, since it was between school years - but Adam had stayed abroad, and assumed Riku had been killed like everyone else in the explosion. Ten years later, Adam moves to the Labs. Both he and Riku are entirely different people than they were when they had last met. The tragic loss of their families and home had changed them. While Riku was fortunate enough to have his Aunt and Uncle to take him in, Adam had no one. He had been on the streets panhandling and exchanging musical services for cheap money. He considered himself a professional bard, and he hated magic...assuming it was the cause of the event that destroyed Aulador and his family. Only Riku and his adoptive parents knew the truth about the accident he had caused. When they first meet, they won'’t recognize each other - but they will recognize a connection. Immediately, they will be strongly drawn to one another and became almost inseparable. Adam, being homeless, moved in with Riku in his new house away from his parents. Riku will still be undefined with his sexuality, and entirely inexperienced on all fronts. Adam, on the other hand, is greatly experienced.....and had relied on his great looks to..survive. They learned to find a balance together.
Very quickly they individually realized they are in love. It will be undeniable and obvious to both. It's at this point Adam will finally opened up about his darker past and what had caused it. Aulador...Riku, mortified, reluctantly reveals his identity: a Morale - and Adam’s Childhood Rival. Suddenly they had so much more in common. And it was even more apparent their connection. However.....Riku was the cause of that horrible event. He was the one who killed Adam’s parents. Destroyed their home. Forced the love of his life on the streets to fend for himself all this time.
He will try to go a while without letting Adam know, but since the Aulador talk, Riku will be different. Eventually he'll have to tell Adam the truth...And it will be a disaster. All this time...it was Rickoli. The person he had hated more than anyone in the universe was the person he loved more than anyone as well. Now he knew for sure it was magic that killed his family. And his best friend and lover was the one who pulled the trigger...but he couldn’t hate him, even though he'll try for a long while. He hated the event - that it happened - but not Riku. They work through it, and not without difficulty. Riku was a growing mage, after all...and Adam had always had a passionate hatred for magic.
Eventually, Riku will get Adam to accept magic just as much as Adam gets Riku to practice music. Adam finds the long awaited affection he had always craved and no longer needs the attention of others to feel in control. Inversely, Riku becomes confident in his own abilities and existence and no longer needs to hide his truer potentials from the world.
