Gardening Venture #7> Xentus, accompanied by... The path of decisions which brought him to decide upon reviving a ghost from the grave (which, how did that even work?) was certainly one he was happy he took. The ghastly golossle was an interesting creature - mostly due to its ethereal nature. He hadn't much experience with ethereal beings, and so the bug was his ticket toward studying the spirit realm. Presumably that's where this kind of thing was from. The leopard wasn't too big a fan of the undead; they defied the rules of nature. But a spirit was an exception. Somehow. He had to think about it some more. The golossle was lead with the world-bridging leash that he'd gotten with it. Wouldn't want the incorporeal beast to meander off after all. The simple looking leash was yet another thing he didn't want to think about too much.
Typically, without much to keep the man occupied, his thoughts would assault him to no end. But it seemed this morning's gardening venture would begin with a welcomed distraction! The two koguma squabbling over fruit snapped him away from any deep thoughts. Xentus watched them for a brief moment trying to figure out what the fuss was about. Ashira floated beside him, seeming curious about the strange creatures. The ethereal beast observed as a strawberry came rolling across the ground toward the bluer of the two koguma. Part of the leopard's midday snack, sacrificed in hopes of settling the fight.

The koguma are deeply engrossed in their battle, until-- boop. Something small and bright bumps into the blue koguma's foot, and it click-clicks in curiosity, its squabble with its green-purple counterpart forgotten. Is that...? A fruit! Further clicks of delight are heard as it snatches the prize up.
The green-purple one isn't too amused by this. It twitches its mandibles in your direction and tilts its head, wondering when it would get its own tribute... despite holding the berry they'd been fighting over in the first place.

The leopard was pleased with himself.. But only for a brief moment. Just when he thought he'd settled whatever quarrel the koguma were having, the greener of the two seemed only to grow more upset. Jealous. Oh boy. Now he found himself to be the object of its enmity. Hm. Peering into his lunch pack, he only had a handful of strawberries to spare.. Alas, it seemed more sacrifices must be made for the sake of peace and harmony amid the garden. He didn't call this place his Tranquility for nothing! And the tranquility he would upkeep. A new bright red, plump fruit was procured and offered forth in the man's palm as he knelt down. Ashira quietly settled its large, intangible body on the ground, tucking in its legs as if to mimic the man out of solidarity. Not like it could do much else anyway. It sat tight while the leopard beckoned for the green bug-like creature, hopefully encouraging some breathing room between the two quarrelers.

It was typical, for them to get greedy. It was their nature to gather, after all! The green-purple koguma seems contented by the offering and clicks. Its partner has already devoured the strawberry and is meandering forwards in search of another. Looks like you've made some firm friends already!
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creatures!]

That seemed to do the trick! His offering was taken and hastily chewed on. And it seemed the other koguma was already looking for more. A light chuckle escaped the leopard as he decided to simply forfeit the rest of his planned afternoon snack. The strawberries were placed in two separate piles near either koguma in hopes that they would cease their bickering and find resolve between themselves finally. He'd come to check on them later, should they still be lingering about his garden. If they'd made a new home here, he wouldn't mind at all! The edge of wilderness met the edge of his garden; visitors were welcome to come and go. Now then, there was still plenty of work to be done. And he had a giant, ghastly bug to befriend. Ashira seemed fairly content lazily observing the leopard and his attempts to quell the small bugs. But it seemed the man was on the move again.

"Let us go, Ashira", Xentus called to the golossle, picking up the world-bridging leash to lead it deeper within the garden. The cobblestone path through this place needed some trimming up and there were plenty of weeds growing.. Again. The work never ended here, and he simply didn't have enough time to maintain upkeep it felt. The leopard sighed as he looked around and tried to decide where to even begin.. Honestly, there wasn't anything thrilling he was looking to do. He mostly wanted to observe the ethereal golossle in a serene environment. What did a ghost do in its time in the material plane? The man lost himself in thought as his feet led him to the gazebo. There he sat on the steps and dropped the leash, eyes staring deeply at the mint-cyan hues of the golossle's body. It slowly hovered toward him, still intending on following after his steps, but it seemed to fail to realize he'd stopped.

Its antennae lifted high in surprise, mandibles silently clicking as it scrambled to a stop in an attempt to avoid a collision. A blink and doubletake crossed the leopard's face, mouth opening in surprise as the giant ghost-bug came frantically floating into him. He locked up, flinching as its form gently grazed his face.. To no effect. It passed into him. Obviously. It was intangible. The panic it had in turn made him flustered and uncertain whether or not the thing would literally just pass through him. Even though he knew it ghostly. The surprise turned to embarrassment turned to laughter. "Hah, does Ashira forget it cannot be touched?", the leopard asked it through chuckles. There was something.. Odd feeling about having a ghost's form touch him. Something cold, yet not. He couldn't quite describe it. Its form was there, only physical enough for light to reflect off it. It distorted the space it occupied. It was weird.

A strange flower? Egg? Is nestled near some fruit. [You've found an egg! You'd better take it home and care for it]

Gardening Venture #8 > Xentus, accompanied by... A new season brought new chores to the leopard's garden. In addition to the usual ones, of course. And he brought along the most unhelpful little companion too. The houluh pup was digging into the soil with both crop and weed alike, with no regard for preservation of either. Xentus had a defeated look upon his face and simply watched the carnage. Yes, he had tried to stop the hound from laying waste to his garden. No, his attempts hadn't worked. Every time he set the pup down after snatching it away from his flowers, it immediately ran to a new spot to resume its botanical destruction. There was nothing short of caging the beast that would contain its rampage. The man had settled on letting the pup tire itself out before trying to either tame it or tend to his garden proper. A wise choice, he thought.

Being young, the houluh was full of nearly endless energy. It would take a while before it was spent. In the meantime, Xentus looked about the garden for some work to do. There was... A lot of work to be done. Given that he hadn't touched the place for ages, much of it was overgrown. In all honestly, the 'damage' the pup was doing was more of a favor than anything. He was better off digging everything up and starting fresh. A sigh escaped the man once he reached that thought. A new arrangement might do the land some good. As things were, he couldn't tell where the flowerbeds began and the weeds end. According to some botanists, weeds weren't a bad thing at all though. Something about maintaining a small, native ecosystem. While the idea of being a naturalist with his garden was a tempting one (and one which required far less work), he didn't quite enjoy the wild aesthetic..

Rich, coming from a man who enjoyed nature and the tranquility brought with it. He was more a fan of a.. Modest look. Grown, yet not overgrown. Natural, but refined. Yes, he could see it now. He'd split the lawn into a targeted side and a wild side. The lotine pond made for a division point. And he could add a greenhouse! The defeated look lifted into one that had 'inspired' writ up on it. Yes, a greenhouse next to the shack for the garden creatures.. And raised beds for kitchen crops. Oh, and he could try that keyhole garden which was trendy these days. A satisfied 'hm!' escaped the man's throat as he envisioned the layout. "Alright pup, you've got work to do", Xentus said to the houluh, looking down at the hound who was still busily digging away at a patch of green. Its ears perked up before it twisted its head around to look at its keeper.
Arf!

Its beautiful silver coat was dirtied with earth and ripped foliage. He couldn't tell whether or not the brown on its face was its natural markings or if it too was stained with soil. In any case, someone would be needing a bath later. Something else for his future self to deal with. Right now he'd allow the mucked up pup to remain as such - it would be foolish of him to try to cleaning it up now knowing full well it would go straight back to digging in the dirt. Instead he'd dig with it. The flowerbed that it was in the process of renovating had to be taken out and moved elsewhere. And for that the greenery within needed to go. Xentus stepped away for a moment to get some tools, and soon returned with a wheelbarrow, a shovel, and a rake. The pup didn't bother waiting for him before returning to its digging adventure alone.

Clumps of uprooted weeds were tossed into the wheelbarrow. Then in went some unwanted wilted crops. The leftover destruction of the pup went in too. 'Hmm...' Xentus scrutinized a patch of herbs, trying to decide whether or not they were worth keeping. A bit of basil and rosemary, both very hardy plants that grew almost as abundantly as the weeds. They were fragrant and flavorful, though he didn't use them in his dishes as much as he should've. He decided they were worth keeping in some capacity. He took a generously sized cutting of both and set them aside. Wouldn't want them to get mixed up with the compost pile. The houluh pup often peered over its shoulder at its keeper, curious as to what kind of strange digging he was doing. He had long paws but didn't use them on the dirt! A yip escaped the hound to garner the mans attention. Here, this was how it was done!

The digging intensified. This young, scrappy little puppy was determined to burrow into the earth at all costs. Xentus couldn't help but to chuckle at the little thing. It certainly was putting on a show. Ah, youth. Too much boundless energy and too little to do with it. For a moment, the leopard considered planting the pup in a spot that actually would require the soil be tilled.. But with the plans he had in mind, nearly all of it would be uprooted. The never-ending work this garden needed was exhausting to even think about. Maybe doing away with the flower beds entirely would suit better. Less organization, more natural chaos. A hum escaped Xentus' throat as he thought it over. If the walkways were better defined and then lined with flowering bushes, that might give the suggestion of organization. And he could always dedicate a spot for preferred planted greenery.
