It was hard to imagine presently, but the more he dreamt of the layout, the more satisfied he became with the idea. The two static objects in the garden were the pond and gazebo. Everything else could be molded around them. Add a little height, some rocks, and maybe bamboo? Oh, and a rock garden. The rock garden was probably a bit much to want... Xentus scratched his chin and straightened. There would be far too little room for a rock garden, and it would clash with the lotine pond, he decided. Zaeru paused his destruction for a moment upon realizing he wasn't getting any much needed attention for his work.
Arf!
The young pup cried out for the man, who's thought bubble seemed to visually pop. "You dig well little one", he praised gently, "What is it?" Another yip sounded from the creature before it returned to its digging spree.

It didn't take much to get the idea of what it wanted. The little thing wanted a captive audience to witness its exploits. Normally the leopard didn't mind sitting and observing creatures for hours on end, but he lacked his research equipment. Namely, a notebook and some paper. Yet even if he did have them readily handy, he wasn't so sure there was much to document regarding the digging ability of a houluh. His research regarding these hounds was about their genetics. The coat colors and combinations of alleles to make them was a fascinating feature of the species. Zaeru himself was a product of curiosity as well as a personal goal; to result in a tri-colored, merle coated, long haired hound. This pup was nearly there, though it lacked the white collar he was hoping to see. No matter, it would be a step toward a breed of his own making!

Sure, it was on the grandiose and even pretentious side, but he wanted his own foothold in the houluh scene. There were already very capable individuals who've dominated houluh shows. He doubted he had much time to get on their level, given his late entry to the field, but he could try to fashion a series of hounds that were 'designer'. One step at a time, he'd get there. Having a diverse gene pool was one of the more important steps, and for that he needed a good number of hounds in his kennel. At the present time, he had four to his name, and only two were of breeding status. As with much else in his life, the houluh required dedication and hard work. Yet another facet that he spread himself thin over. 'One of these days, there will be no choice left but to tear at the seams and become the morning dew', the man thought wearily to himself.

Perhaps it was time to invest in servants. Those PAD robots seemed interesting. One to assist Xio, another to tend to the homestead... And an extra for good measure. It would likely be expensive, but it was an expense he could technically afford. The man let out a long breath and returned to reality. He had no extra help here for now aside from a scrappy pup. A scrappy pup who was chewing on something.
"Zaeru! No, wrong", he scolded, "What's that, hm? Much out here is not suitable for young pups to chew on"
The houluh had found itself a patch of sweetgrass - he could tell by the pleasant vanilla aroma wafting in the air now. While it smelled quite nice, he didn't figure it was actually much good for eating. From what he remembered studying, it was sometimes used as a bug repellant. Zaeru took a few more good chomps just for good measure, before looking up at its keeper with a wide-eyed 'what did I do?' face.

A delicately colored lotine sniffs gently at a small crystal jutting up from the ground. Is that even a plant? She seems curious. To Tame the Lotine: Make at least 3-5 RP posts interacting with the creature and trying to tame it. At the end of your taming attempt, make your last post with [done] and wait for staff approval.

He couldn't find it in him to admonish those cute little eyes. With a sigh and a defeated smile, the leopard knelt down and petted the young pup on the head. Zaeru wagged her tail excitedly, giving the man an excited yip. She's already forgotten the events just moments prior resulting in her gentle scolding. And then with another minute in passing, she was scampering off to investigate some sounds in the overgrowth. Ah, how he admired the ability to live strictly in the moment like the young houluh did.. Not a care in the world, eh? Xentus straightened and set off after Zaeru. The houluh was found frozen still in the tall weeds near the pond, seemingly staring at something. Xentus blinked, confused, then followed her sight. There- a wild lotine caught investigating some of the wild flora. She did not seem to like the intrusion by the hound and mammalian man, pink eyes darting between the two of them.

Now this wasn't what he was expecting to find shuffling about the overgrowth in the garden. A quiet 'oh' escaped the man's lips as he crouched down to make himself less intimidating. "Well, what a lovely friend Zaeru has stumbled upon", Xentus chimed quietly. Zaeru seemed unsure whether or not to cower back into the man's side or paw forward to get a sniff. Those pretty blue hues must smell nice after all.. If there was ever a motto for the pup, however, it would be: 'there's no time like the present!'. With her mind made up, the pup scampered toward the lotine, tail furiously wagging high in the air. The serpent, in turn, seemed alarmed by the rapidly approaching puppy. She shyly lowered her head and looked for an escape. The pond. In a flash, the serpent was gone. The only remnants of her presence were sparkling bits of dust which settled on the path she slinked away.

Zaeru whimpered and deflated, sad to see her new friend run away so quickly. "Oh, dear Zaeru.. Have patience little one, not all may be befriended so quickly. Or vigorously, for that matter", the man told the houluh, despite knowing his advice wouldn't be understood.
"Here. Let's apologize for such an intrusion, yes?" Xentus began uprooting the crystalline plant the lotine seemed interested in, taking care not to damage it. The houluh perked right back up and immediately joined in digging with reckless abandon. Thankfully, it seemed the strange fruit(?) was sturdy enough to take a few errant claws here and there. Once it was unearthed, it looked nearly indistinguishable from a cluster of crystals, save for the small roots poking out here and there. Xentus made his way over to the nearby pond with Zaeru in tow, following the residual flakes of dust left behind by the lotine. She could be hidden anywhere within the waters... But, Xentus didn't lose hope that she might still be nearby. He sat at the water's edge and held the crystal candy above the glittering surface.

Zaeru took a few laps of water then flattened herself down at the edge. Her tail wavered anxiously, eyes fixated on the ripples that danced away. A quiet whimper escaped the pup when the lotine didn't instantly reappear. "Patience, Zaeru", Xentus comforted her quietly, "Be still, yes, stay there" A long exhale flattened the houluh further, but she seemed to be okay with sitting still for once. The lotine skulked nearby, deep enough in the pool that the water obscured even her brilliant bluish white coat. The gentle ripples coming from the houluh caught her attention, her pink eyes examining the distorted figures sitting at the edge of the pond. And there was that fruit she wanted! After a moment of deliberation, the serpent decided to swim up and poke her head out of the water, eyes fixated on the crystalline fruit.
"Look, there she is", Xentus murmured to the houluh, then turned his attention back to the lotine, "Xentus and Zaeru apologize for the intrusion, do forgive us yes?" His voice was gentle and almost pleading.. Hopeful to be graced by the lotine for a moment more.

The young pup perked her head up and her tail wagging began again. A quietly huffed 'arf' escaped her, almost seeming to give confirmation to the leopard's words. In reality, she just wanted her new friend to come out! She wasn't going into the water herself, no way. The snowy lotine took her time, deliberating on the situation. The fruit was tempting. The man wasn't exceptionally frightening, nor was that tiny creature. Its energy was off-putting, but the longer it seemed to wait there disarmingly, the less appalling it became.
"Good Zaeru, still now..", Xentus quietly praised the pup, noting its ability to be patient for once. Her tail wagged faster at hearing good words, but her eyes were still fixed on the lotine. Then, she deflated again as the serpent dipped into the water, out of sight once more. The pup's vantage couldn't witness the slender serpent making her way toward them just under the surface. And so the sudden splash of water as the lotine burst out to snatch away the crystal candy spooked the pup, sending her yipping backward. An amusing sight to be left with as the serpent took her prize.

The Lotine remains cautious, but she's curious enough about you and your offering to stick around. At least for now. Oh, what's that? Do you think she'd like it? [Taming success!]
