It would haven thus stood to reason there were many aspects of the garden he was as of yet unfamiliar with. Thus far, the surprises had been pleasant enough, though not likely to remain exclusively thus. In the renovation of the garden there had been the assumption that which required seeing to was thus seen to. The points of issue and cause for concern eliminated to make place for pleasant locations of calm and cultivation. Certainly, the garden could have yet retained something within itself inherent to all the gardens built within the district of the City. It could have even been of highly arcane nature. Certain steps had been taken and accounted for in order to properly house any creature that wished or found to be accustomed to residing here, the nightshade included.
As such, it had never occurred to him to take into consideration the garden itself might be an element of chaotic happenings.

The graveyard garden was not quite intended for the same style of peace as this. And yet comparatively it seemed to retain a better sense of control over its contents, boundaries and styling. Nature would do as nature does, of course, for there was naught that man could do to prevent this. Though, on some smaller scale of being, there was still a semblance of force and effect that could be controlled. The garden here had already proved thus to be folly of the highest order.
The lepus considers the fruit, its purpose and journey to being found, but could not find any additional cause or reason beyond that. A part of the nightshade's hoard, certainly. Though, where had the nightshade found it? Which tree, bush, stalk or vine would bear them? None that he had encountered within the garden as of yet, none planted by his own hand or another's, and so the mystery remained to entice him.

The lepus set aside the strange fruit, and continued to work. It was not long after that additional bounty was revealed among the tall grass. The finds themselves similar yet not quite the same as the trio of colour found prior. Indeed, had he not known better, he might have mistaken them for citrus or pear. Perhaps an off chimeric combination of both, even? With many fruit located so close to one another, there was a suspicion the credit to the nightshade theory might cause the serpent in question to object to them being taken.
When the lepus picked up one of the fruits, however, the nightshade's location was silent. The eyes still peered and observed, for he was still within her territory, but she made no move nor sound to seemingly object to this. To test such, he picked up the other as well, slow to place all of them within the barrow. Only silence followed, as the serpent had not even shifted to betray her location.

Hmm.. So it seemed there were two possible outcomes to such a trial. Either the serpent had no care or connection to the fruit, or the fruit were not sufficient enough a catalyst to cause her to take action. A valuable lesson in either scenario, as the lepus was able to presume the territory was not gained and held for the purpose of obtaining such food, as befitting most animals of similar natures. In truth, while the serpent had the capacity to feed, the mammalian was not entirely certain as to her feeding classification.
She would chase small game within her territory, yes. She could also root into the ground to absorb additional nutrients from the soil itself. Perhaps there was an ambivalence at work? To resort to one where the other would not suffice, or opportunity was missing for such. Surely, if she hungered for game so readily, it was something he could certainly assist with.

The seeker had a hardy appetite, befitting one his size and build. But he was also a disdainful eater with little regard to form or cleanliness. What pieces remain left over could have been utilized to feed the nightshade instead, should she have found them appetizing enough to try. But such would require more research, perhaps even more direct study of the serpent and her habits lest something would cause her an upset stomach.
And he rather suspected such a condition would not improve her mood more than it already was.
A note for another day, the lepus reminded himself. He resumed to weed around the smaller of the rocks, slow yet precise. Only the weeds needed picking as there were other flowers and types of plants that would have been more beneficial if they remained. To the same purpose, he made sure to cut the tall ones of such down to size, but leave enough for it to recover and regrow.

The garden had enjoyed a bright sunshine for the majority of the day, but then found itself overcast by a passing series of clouds. Nothing as yet as to threaten rain, to the lepus' fortune. Yet with the dimming of daylight, other aspects of the garden came to life. Parts of the stone paths became lightly illuminated as the stone lanterns responded to the shift of outside brightness. Within each, an arcane stone slowly awakening the darker it became, then slumbering once the sun peeked between gaps of the cloud cover.
To the nightshade's eyes, too, there was a change. Unexpectedly she could see the lepus cast within a faint glow all his own, as the white of the fur hadn't merely reflected sunlight but seemed to contain light within itself, reflected outwards. Just faint enough to seem almost untraceable. This was a curiosity, something perhaps even enough to dissuade her from focusing on her territory for a spell.

There had been creatures within the gardens who could cast light, in some minor form of it. The lotine being one such prime example, though her glow was fainter and not quite of the same make. The nightshade could recall others, from another time and another place, with such ability. Some through spores, some through dust. None quite like the lepus was, and none among the humanoid folk she had seen. Light attracts things, be it human or beast. It did not attract her, but somewhere within was an understanding that perhaps the lepus could serve as a beacon for such. Perhaps it could even attract far more manageable forms of food and sustenance..
The lepus wasn't able to take notice of this shift in perspective for he busied himself quite deeply in the work being done. Likewise, it had been some time since the change to such physiology and time could make one accustomed to much strangeness.

His eyes had not needed accustoming to the shift of light, for he had long since been born with the sight to see into the dimness. Since the change, the fur could, at times, act as a small form of light source all its down, but was not a requirement to operate within any forms of light or dark. All the same, the shift in the daylight did being his attention to something else within the grass. It was not just him nor the path that seemed to have a glow to it, but rather something else among the overgrown thicket. Blue and faint, covered prior by daylight shining down from above.
He had to lean some distances outwards to reach it, in order to best avoid having to change the location of the folded burlap further. The motion prompted a shift of the head from the nightshade, who had revelled quite deeply within her own thoughts and now awoken to the motion.

Parting the grass revealed there to be a flower hidden among the overgrowth, though certainly no regular type of one. The glow was coming from among the stems and there was a radiance, an energy about it which made it quite distinct. Something arcane, not powerful enough to pass for magic or spellcraft, yet enough to be sensed by those aware of such presences. Quite curious.. The lepus reached further, to gently brush the flower aside. Behind it was another bloom of the same make, but different colour. Neither quite the pair and yet seeming to come from the same genus. Perhaps similar in make and creation as the strange fruits had been.
The nightshade drew further out from behind her cover, the better to observe was the lepus reached beyond her line of sight. Where first had been fear, then suspicion, then defensiveness, there now grew a sense of cautious curiosity. Few enough things seemed to move the lepus, so what drew his attention also obtained hers.

Much of the commotion remained outside of her line of sight, even as the nightshade's main head extended further out from behind the rocks. She could see him be captivated by something within the grass, though not as to what. And as much as her curiosity had grown, it did not yet give her enough cause to leave cover completely. Then, when the lepus retrieved another tool from the wheelbarrow, she instinctively pulled back, as yet too uncertain regarding the tools to trust them as harmless.
The lepus required the small shovel in order to attempt retrieving the flower, for he was quite curious to study it further and perhaps even see if it might be set to bloom and produce more. The shovel was dug in a circle around the bloom, wide enough to accommodate any roots it might hide beneath. Then, dug up, the bloom was placed into a clay pot, dirt and roots and all. Similarly, he proceeded to uproot the second flower, though settled it into a different clay pot instead.

Additional dirt was added around the edges, to fill any gaps. The manner of the transplant was far from perfection, but it needed not be. The clay pots would remain a temporary measure, to be placed within the wheelbarrow for safekeeping until such a time as he can return to the greenhouse. There, appropriate flowerbeds awaited inside and the flowers could be transplanted proper. Perhaps even a cause of study as to their peculiar natures and possible methods to retrieve pollen and produce more. If not, then there seemed a remaining possibility he might chance upon another one within the garden.
With tool and plants placed away, the nightshade resettled. The commotion was over and done, though her curiosity remained towards the contents of the wheelbarrow. Simple as her mind was, it none the less had ability to make the connection between the mammalian and the barrow, for he would constantly take or place items within it. Surely, then, there was purpose to the items within.

Curiosity could have brought her closer, but the sense of caution stayed her intent. Should the lepus have up and left, to abandon the barrow momentarily, then perhaps the nightshade would have given such considerations further. As it stood, the mammalian simply continued his work on the overgrown area, thus causing her to seethe with the impulse a while longer.
The flowers thus removed, the rest of the grass around was trimmed or uprooted in short order, relevant to whether one was beneficial or regarded as a weed. It resulted in yet another patch of the overgrowth being tended to, thus it meant having to move onto the next. The course of action saw no favour despite its necessity, for it would have also meant standing once more. The lepus rose to his feet, laboriously as before, and dragged the burlap fold further along the border of the overgrowth. While much was done, much yet remained undone as well.

With each successive motion forward it began to take him further from the rocks, following the border between tended garden and overgrowth. There was no plan as of yet to push further in beyond this initial intrusion. Certainly, a portion of the overgrowth would have to remain to accommodate the nightshade's environmental needs, though it could be contained in much a smaller area as it was thus far. For much the same reason, he didn't wish to push nor intrude too much deeper into the field, lest the nightshade take it as true trespassing.
Her conduct thus far had been rather admirable, far more contained and settled than in incidents past, as well as what his own expectations had been on the matter. One could maintain hope that she could continue to have such, perhaps even build upon it with more amiable natures. Thus far, that remained but hope itself for he had hardly even seen glimpse of her, despite her constant vigil.
