Jardin de Fleurs
A private area ringed with tall hedges to mask the iron-wrought fence within. The gates are simple, but sturdy, freshly carved by hand and seen a recent instalment into the entrances of the garden. The paths within are likewise freshly set with milled stones making up a pavement that runs throughout the area. In places, they make way for packed dirt paths more intended for working footwear than finer shoes, and seem well-worn. Here and there, stone lanterns shine light during the darker hours.
To the bottom left sits a tool shed, with many a crate for the produce the garden providers. To the top left a small lumber mill, where certain carpentry can be practised and sickly trees turned into more useful material. The middle sees a fairly deep pond, with a pottery area to the right of it, able to offer tools for both ceramics as well as stonework. To the top right a greenhouse gleams against the sunlight with sheer glass walls, providing warmth for the plants within through the year.
And all around the rest of the area stand hedges, fruit trees, benches, wells, planter boxes and general tilled fields. There is still much work to be done about the place, but the beginning has been good.

Regular Occupants
There are a few who do not quite align to the standard qualification of a 'plant' classification, who none the less have a flora-aligned physiology. Of those, the following reside in the garden.
Morne (MO-ehrn), male Level: 0 (0/5) / Loyalty: 0 (0/5)
"Dreary, Sullen." A forlorn treewalker with a nature even more-so quiet than his common kin. There is a tendency to keep to one's self which is largely respected by most other denizens of the garden. It is generally assumed the treefolk's anger at being crossed means avoiding them makes for a safer alternative. He can be most commonly found on the dead tree bluff overlooking the pond.
Cunning: 2 Critter Average Top Speed: 10 mph Power Levels: 2 (baby), 4 (juvie), 6 (adult), 8 (old) Special Requirements: None Notes: None Stamina: 10 Strength: 13 Resistance: 11 Dexterity: 2 Mentality: 4 Special Abilities: Illness, Forest-Dweller, Infectious Bite Moves: Root, Wooden Spear, Sap, Incendiary Illusion, Plague of Insects
Épiphanie (e-pyf-AWN-ee) Level: 4 (0/5) / Loyalty: 4 (0/5)
"Twelfth Night." The first of the residents to the greenhouse, the kito has little to no shyness of the human kind. Its interests rest largely in being allowed to slumber within its designated planting pot while allowed to sit at the windows and seek the light of the moon. Simple-minded, even the prospect of being awarded something which could be designated as a ‘treat’ seems beyond it and it rarely allows its calm to be shaken.
Cunning: 2 Critter Average Top Speed: 15 mph Special Requirements: None Notes: None Stamina: 6 Strength: 9 Resistance: 5 Dexterity: 4 Mentality: 1 Special Abilities: Acid Fang, Assimilate, Chlorophyll, Nightvision Moves: Bite, Deceptive Lure, Devour, Sweet Scent

Lotine And Other Bounty Bearers
Beyond the regular occupants, there are others who call the garden their true home. These beasts are all fully classified as plants, though their shapes and sizes can vary greatly. The larger fields outside the bluff and greenhouse fall under their domain.
Lune (LHU-nh), female Level: 9 (0/5) / Loyalty: 0 (0/5)
"Moon." The lotine spends most of the day resting in the broader pond, away from the sun and the noise produced by other beasts. When it become night, she awakens and begins to roam the pond in a more active manner. On rare occasions, and only during cloudless nights when the starlight is brightest, she might come to the surface and sing her song. The melody seems not for any plain ear, for she sings regardless of audience and seemingly to the stars alone.
Cunning: 5 Sentient Average Top Speed: 5 mph, 35 mph (swimming) Power Levels: 3 Special Requirements: None Notes: Gains a +5 bonus to Dexterity when in the water Stamina: 3 Strength: 4 Resistance: 2 Dexterity: 3 Mentality: 3 Special Abilities: Swim, Danger Sense, Chlorophyll Moves: Constrict, Deceptive Lure
" Select a Lotine and make a thread in the Breeding Center. Title your thread 'Lotine Breeding'.
Your first post must contain an image of the Lotine and any items being used. Include your Lotine's stats, including Levels and loyalty in your first post, as well as a link to your character.
You can only use one food item per breeding. Make 10 roleplaying posts. "
" Each individual Lotine may be bred once per month. "
Cendre (SAHN-drah), male Level: 2 (0/5) / Loyalty: 2 (0/5)
"Ash." A quite and observative type that does not take kindly to company. And few plants seem to seek company from one gifted in flame, even if he is otherwise harmless. The dragon is commonly seem in the woods south of the pond.
Cunning: 3 (Animal) Average Top Speed: Running 15 mph Power Levels: 2 Special Requirements: None Notes: Unless otherwise stated, Dragon Oak stats are based on their size and wings, regardless of their coloring. All wing shapes are included in the 'winged' base. Stamina: 3 Strength: 2 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 3 Mentality: 1 Special Abilities: Cold Weakness, Acid Weakness, Earth Resistance Moves: Flame Bite, Scratch
|
| Morelle (MOH-rhell), female Level: 25 (0/5) / Loyalty: 22 (0/5)
"Nightshade." Inherently deceptive and secretive, the serpent is not kindly to many. Most allow her the peace she desires, as she's made herself a home in the rock outcrop to the east of the dead tree bluff.
Cunning: 3 Animal Average Top Speed: 22 mph Power Levels: 3 Special Requirements: None Notes: All Trick Serpents follow the same stats, regardless of their coloring. Stamina: 3 Strength: 4 Resistance: 3 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 0 Special Abilities: Thorny Body, Double-Headed Moves: Venomous Bite, Projectile Poison, Choking Vines
|
|
|
| Ceylan (SEE-lohn), male Level: 12 (0/5) / Loyalty: 8 (0/5)
"Ceylon." An alert type with a calm nature. The regent can be seen wandering most of the garden unhindered, but has a preference for the fruit trees just north of the stoneworking station.
Cunning: 4 Beast Average Top Speed: 25 mph Power Levels: 1 (Baby) - 2 (Juvenile) Special Requirements: None Notes: None Stamina: 3 Strength: 2 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 2 Mentality: 2 Size Chart Reference: 3 Special Abilities: Thorny Body, Cold Resistance, Fire Weakness Moves: Healing Berry, Claw, Winter Gust
|
| Jacinthe (JHAH-shant) Level: 4 (0/5) / Loyalty: 4 (0/5)
"Hyacinth." A creature of pure instinct with limited perception, the stalk is kept within the greenhouse to avoid it causing or befalling harm. It does not seem to portray, and might even be unable to sustain, a particular form of personality.
Cunning: 1 Dense Average Top Speed: 35 mph Power Levels: 1 Special Requirements: None Notes: This creature changes with the seasons, see this thread for more information. [ Summer ] Stamina: 1 Strength: 1 Resistance: 0 Dexterity: 3 Mentality: 0 Special Abilities: Acid Resistance, Fire Weakness, Chlorophyll, Danger Sense Moves: Scratch, Root, Sweet Scent

Workstations and Tool Shed
To the left of the bottom-most gate stands a tool shed, filled with implements, crates and various forms of storage for the bounty the garden provides. Beneath it even sets a cellar, to keep some of the longer-living types of produce fresh, or to help them survive the winter.
To the top left and the middle of the garden also sits a lumber mill and stone-cutting station, respectively. There's tools more precise to the work done there on hand in those places, but likewise where the caretaker makes sure to carve new stones for winding paths or to assemble additional planters for more crops to be yielded.

It was a pleasant day, with weather permitting. The summers here had an air of dryness to them, something which was so different to what the lepus was used to. It was not entirely unpleasant, however. Rainfall would come closer to autumn and spring made most of the garden inaccessible due to a generous quantity of puddles and standing water. In such contrast the dry weather was a boon.
On this day, the lepus returns to the garden for first time after the construction work on the buildings and pathways had been completed. There was tidying to be done, management and care. For even with the rigorous work put in thus far, the garden was far from complete. A corner of the garden remained a wilderness, in effect. While he was content to leave it as such, for it was the residence of the nightshade serpent, some of the weeds and overgrown grass had begun to push too close to the fruit trees.

It had taken little time to assemble the necessary tools. The clothes had already been picked prior to leaving the house, and so the lepus was once more dressed in the layman's attire for work. The cap to shield the head from the sheer sunlight, rolled up sleeves to allow relief from the warmth. And well-made waterproof boots and sturdy slacks to survive the rigors of such manual labour. The mammalian pushed the wheelbarrow along the path, until it diverged between the trees and compost boxes. There was shade here, from canopy and tall rocks alike, and somewhere within a set of eyes no doubt observing him.
The wheelbarrow was halted close to the rocks, but no further. Beyond lay the serpent's claim, and he was not of mind to disturb her as yet. The nature of that one was prickly, the meaning having both of quality as well as physicality. He need not cause a fuss, if he can manage to trim away the tall grass on the very edges of her claim. And, perhaps, by continued presence, she might not object to having him nearby, when assured of safety.

The darkness beneath the rocks was alive, as much he knew. And it had not yet given consideration as to her disposition regarding this encounter. For his own part, the lepus merely took a pair of well-worn gloves from the barrow and pulled them on. He then set down a rough-spun bundle of burlap, to ease the tension on the knees once he knelt down and began to sort through the tall grass. Some plants here were beneficial to the overall ecology and could be maintained. They did not grow very tall and neither did they choke out nutrients from those about them. Weeding those from the rest would require a careful eye and patent hand. To his fortune, both qualities that were in abundance for him.
The rest could, perhaps, merely be scythed away, as the swath of tall grass was as broad as it was wide. To manually go over all of it by hand would surely require more hours in the day than what he had available.

The hands carefully moved through the small ticket, pulling weeds which did not belong to toss beside himself. There is little that survive beneath the height of a plant when many are so crowded together. Somethings find sustenance among the roots, but most merely wither and fall. Among the weeds, the dried husks of those are also carefully shorn free and tossed aside. Much of this can make for excellent compost, though care must be taken it does not take root in the process. The plant itself would not have opportunity to survive for long, but the pollen or spores it spreads could cause an influx of new outbreaks near and far the boxes. It is best to try them first or cut the roots, before disposing of. The nightshade, he knows, does not find them appetizing, but the nutrients inherent in the compost may very well entice her interest.
The lepus brushes away a smattering of spiderwebs among the grass reeds, revealing a strange sight beneath. Among all the overbrown weeds, there's yet a surviving stalk of mint.

The sprig was small, barely a few leaves to its name. But it was surviving, fresh and green despite the shade and cover cast by surrounding plants. The lepus sat up and rubbed his chin with consideration. There were quite a number of herbal uses for mint, but it was also a type of plant which could outgrow its bounds if left unchecked. A type of it was budding in the greenhouse, still as yet to small too be transplanted into a bedding outside. This one had a variance to it to suggest a different breed, perhaps having two types was not so strange a notion.
When the mammalian reached for a small shovel at his side, the grass among the rocks shifted. It was a warning, an alert. The nightshade knew not the difference between tool and weapons, but was observant enough to know either could pose a threat. The lepus was not persuaded by the display, and carried on as normal. If the serpent was to learn of him, to adjust to the presence, the tools were going to be a constant companion it would have to accept. No least of which the walking stick. For now, he began to dig a circle around the sprig, to uproot it without damage to the roots themselves.

With careful precision, the mound of dirt was lifted from the ground, balanced upon the small shovel. The lepus shifted to reach towards the wheelbarrow, where a few clay pots and planters were among the tools, and retrieved one. The barrow's position was no mere coincidence. Where gardening was not so strenuous work as some others, there was a constant emphasis to one's legs and feet. Time and time again one would have to reach down, to pull, to push, to carry and kneel. A physicality that could tire an able-bodied individual, given enough time. For the lepus, whose leg remained weakened after years of healing, it was doubly so.
It stood well within arm's reach, to remove the necessity to stand. No sooner was the mind plant potted that it was added to the barrow, to settle among the tools. With it, he also put away the small shovel, which seemed to silence the disquiet from within the bush nearby.

The nightshade was quite the silent beast. At night it was hardly visible, even to those with the sight for it. At day, it would double down on such, keeping to the dark and shaded. On more than one occasion, the lepus had found it creeping about the woodshed and among the rows of firewood. It was great fortune the size of the serpent made it more easy to spot than it could have otherwise been, for if she were the size of a snake the conclusions to such encounters may well have been quite more ill fortuned.
The lepus had but only resumed to deal with the weeds when a different sound caught both attentions nearby. To the serpent, it was silent alarm, judged by its sudden shift in stature. To the lepus, curiosity. The creatures of the garden had quickly found themselves residence once released. Each laid claim to a spot where no other could or would, and plenty space yet remained.

For one to approach the perceived lair of the nightshade was daring enough. The lepus himself only dared it knowing he could manage. For anything else it would have been much too risky. But the sound continued, drawing both attentions towards the tall grass. Something was moving through it, small enough to fit within. A splash of yellow became evident between the grass stalks, sudden movement taking it elsewhere. The lepus realized it was no resident of the garden, though it had been known the garden could offer residents of its own. Whether pollen on wind, or the leylines of magic, things could appear within the gardens where none had been before.
To be fully candid, the garden had been an acquisition. The state of it quite shabby and neglected, as the previous attender held little interest in it. The lepus had done what he could to improve it, whether rebuilding the worn shacks or placing down new stones for the pavement which ran through it.

A no simple feat. The grounds were extensive and the damage quite deep. Many places had to have been uprooted entirely and grass allowed to grow back in, before little else could be placed upon it. The greenhouse, perhaps, the saddest of the sights that graced these grounds. A mere shell of itself, in large part due to the broken and missing windows. Indeed, the recovery of the grounds had been a project to span months. No sooner had the winter snow melted and the ground grown soft that the first stave was hammered into the ground. As fortunes had it, others had been able to assist with things of a heavy nature, to spare him further strain to the leg. Most else could only be handled by the hand and the eye of a carpenter and stonemason, leaving many a day where the wheelbarrow carried stones more than earth.
All together, the lepus had scoured the garden from hedge to hedge. It had been his assumption that little else could surprise him following such extensive scrutiny and care.
