Badrani had been quite taken with how easy it was to complete the last quest. She had liked doing it enough that she wanted to take on another as soon as she could get Shahrazad to come up to the City again for another of these small 'adventures'. They were purposefully taking on the simplest ones they could partially due to the fact that Badrani found it quite difficult to learn a whole new language in her older age- and she couldn't really read all of the ones written in really tiny difficult print. She was hoping to be able to find one this month that was just as simple as tthe last one they were able to take on. "What do you think we'll find this time?" Shahrazad muses. Her tone is amicable, but she is mostly speaking to herself. Badrani is generally soft-spoken and short of phrase. "Hmmm..." Badrani answers, simply. [1]

It was getting towards the 'cold' part of the year. Badrani, of course, had knowledge of that. She knew quite a bit of information, generalized as it was, about the world from her past travels. Of course she understood that nights out on the desert were 'cold', but the idea of an entire portion of the year being cold; and cold enough that rain (something else she hadn't seen much of at all) would fall in a state that was apparently fluffy was a little beyond her experience. The first morning that she steps out of her home and feels a distinct chill down her spine that most certainly was not the normal one; she was sure that it was bound to be an interesting experience... And not entirely a pleasant one. She was accustomed to heat- though too much of that was intensely uncomfortable too.
"Perhaps..." She started, on the way to the quest board with Shahrazad. "I will need to winter at the Canyon with you..."

The draconic snorts at that; a distinctly undignified noise for her general composed demeanor. Badrani flashes a quick grin at this. "Not quite missing my company that much?" She asks. It had been a little while since she had spent time at the Canyon. Shahrazad simply shakes her head. "I wouldn't mind it, but isn't the entire point of taking on these 'quests' to get you acclimated to living here?" The 'among your own kind' was left unsaid, and left Badrani wrinkling the top of her muzzle in distaste. Neither Badrani nor Shahrazad really fit in with their respected peoples, and they most certainly tried not to bring it up at all if they could help it.
Badrani pipes back down, and they make their way in silence.
"Say, does it seem less busy out than usual?" Shahrazad asks, her head tilted as she scans the streets.
Now that she had said something, Badrani does think this to be the case, as well.

"Perhaps the denizens of this area don't like the..." She searches for the word. "Cold."
Shahrazad tilts her head again, obviously a little wary. "Perhaps." She wasn't very accustomed to it either, but she knew that it wasn't truly 'cold' out today. Simply chilly. She did have past experience (though very little of it) to hearken back to. "Or perhaps they are simply busy." Neither of them believed that. There were still people out and about on the street, but there were very few of them in comparison to normal. Neither of them particularly liked sudden change. Neither of them truly fit in enough to weather such storms with grace.
They make it to the quest board with ease, and here it is that they notice a strange group of people in strange garb. Immediately Shahrazad's metaphorical hackles are raised, and Badrani finds herself on guard too. What were with those white cloaks?

The dark colored Ssashirk had not seen white cloaks such as these, but she was still incredibly wary. People in Similar Garb were generally related in some form or fashion, and something this same-y implied a cult to her. The suspicion was worsened by the fact that individuals of that cult were generally bedecked in white as well. The only thing that keeps her from bolting is that these specific white cloaks reminded her of the strange one worn by the kid- that one kid. She presses forward at that, towards the Quest Board, her shoulders still raised somewhat. Shahrazad follows her at a relatively close clip, and stops just beyond the circle of the closest six feet around the quest board. She watched carefully for Badrani's safety. Later, perhaps, the draconic would ask about those strange clothes they were wearing. There was a good chance that it had worried Badrani, as well.

Now that Badrani considered it more, she began to put two and two together. There were odd people here in weird garb, and there were some sort of odd decorations scattered about. She hadn't thought much about it whenever she had walked past them along with Shahrazad on the way here, but they weren't really normal, either. She concluded that there must be some strange holiday going on, and that was enough to give her another second of pause to gather herself before she stepped the rest of the way up to the Quest Board. She was certain that she'd be gotten a-hold of for some kind of conversation. She was still a little surprised whenever the smallest of the scientists raised up to talk with her.
She wasn't sure what to say, so she let the individual speak with her about whatever this was. It seemed to be some sort of a pitch for a quest. Shahrazad shifts behind her, even as Badrani feels more comfortable.

Badrani had never heard the word 'catering' before, at least not in common, so she filed that away for later and went back over the little spiel in her head trying to search through context clues. Apparently it was a 'good' thing to have, and it was something that could be applied to this... Party. A bonfire. She vaguely remembered reading something about a party that was referred to like that- or at least she thought she did? She wasn't sure what a WATT was, but her interest was piqued. Instead of asking a billion questions she reaches out her hand for the 'flyers'. The last quest she had taken had provided a flyer, and it had provided quite a bit of information that she really could use. "Thank you." She replies upon receiving the page. The individuals leave. What a strange group of individuals!
She looks down at the flyer, trying to make heads or tails of some of it- and now that the people are gone Shahrazad leans her head over Badrani's shoulder to look.

"I gather this is some sort of a party." Badrani mentions, now that Shahrazad had drawn near. She knew that Shahrazad had not been taught her letters quite yet, and would struggle with this particular one regardless. Badrani sure had... Though she did know that Shahrazad was still young, and it was much easier for young individuals to learn things than someone like her. "Who has a party in the cold part of the year? What with the uh, sharp Manaah?" She tilts her head.
Shahrazad seems to notice the little picture of a fire on the flyer. "Perhaps it is a custom to spend a cold night next to a warm fire to celebrate it?"
"Seems like an odd thing to celebrate." Badrani says. Her mind is drawn to hot days on the desert, the hottest of them would most certainly make her wish for cool nights. Perhaps that was what it was about.

The two of them decide to go, though it was quite a bit later in the evening. Badrani had no idea what to expect, and she also wasn't sure what would be acceptable to do at such a party. Shahrazad's enthusiasm certainly comforted her, however. She didn't let herself get too anxious overthinking the party. It was such a childish thing to think of, really. Just before the party is set to begin, Badrani and Shahrazad made their way down the road. It wasn't too far away from where the dark Ssashirk lived, but Badrani still felt a little bad that they would be getting there late. The truth was, she wanted a little bit of an excuse to leave if she didn't feel comfortable. Just why would a party be considered a quest? She couldn't imagine even in the slightest why it would be a 'community task'.
Really she was just afraid of being noticed.

Thankfully the pair gets to the bonfire before Badrani is able to overthink and come up with a good enough excuse to hint to Shahrazad politely that they shouldn't go. Shahrazad seemed really excited for it right away, but she could tell that her own anxiety was catching the attention of the young draconic. She knew that Shahrazad really wanted to see how it was that 'humanoids' lived, as she put it. Badrani hung back and away from the fires, and instead was drawn to a strange cart in which many individuals were lined up. She watched and noted that it was handing out food of a sort that she'd not had before, and she decided to get herself one- and one for Shahrazad. The two shared them, and then hung back for a little while longer, people watching.
"What strange people..." Badrani notes, though Shahrazad is quiet in response. That was before all of the fireworks. She'd heard of these before, but she was quite enthralled with them in person. Shahrazad talked about them the entire rest of the night on the way home.
