It should be first noted that Player Combat is for player's characters only. Pets cannot learn Expertise. Those that can are very rare.
The Basics
You learn combat by spending Combat Points.
You get combat points by spending skill points in the combat skill hubs.
Each rank you have in Combat Skill Hubs rewards you with 10 Combat Points.
You can have no more than 140 skill ranks in combat and/or marksmanship skills (giving you a maximum of 700 combat points). You may have up to 200 across these two types (combat and marksmanship), but you can only have a max cap of 140 skill ranks in one of them.
From now on, we will call Combat Points "CP".
How Points are Spent
When you spend your CP on Expertise, you may only spend CP on Expertise from the Skill Hub you spent skill points in. If you spent 2 skill points in Martial Arts, you get 10 CP to spend on Martial Arts Expertise. If you spent an additional 1 skill point on Assassination, you can spend another 5 CP in the Assassination Expertise. CP is not transferable to the different hubs. You must spend the appropriate amount of CP from the hub you put skill points into. So - if you put all your skill points in Marksmanship, you can't spend any CP on Spearguard; you must spend it on Marksmanship Expertise.
On each individual Expertise, you are able to spend a maximum of 100 CP. You can always spend less.
This means you can either "max out" 7 Expertise; or do a lot of them at less than max. You may find that you'll want to "max out" one or two, and do a little of a lot more.
Please keep in mind that some of the Expertise have requirements! These requirements may expect you to have a certain, expertise, or skill.
Example
Say you want the expertise "strike". "Strike" requires "Crushing Weapon (one handed)". That means you must not only have a (one handed) crushing weapon equipped to your character to use that expertise in battle, but you must also know the expertise "Weapon; Crushing (one-handed)".
After all, if you don't know how to hold the weapon properly, you can't effectively swing it at the foe, right?
Keeping Track
If your character has trained in any Combat Expertise, you will want to keep a log in the Player Combat Stat area. This is similar to a kennel, only instead of keeping pets and their stats there, you keep just the stats of your character.
If you have any pets with combat training (which are rare) you will also keep their information on their expertise there as well.
You are allowed only one thread for stats in the Player Combat section, so please try to keep it clean.
