During autumn, she tended to associate vines with pumpkins. However, there was not a single pumpkin in the entire room. Perhaps those vines were growing pumpkins in a different room and had simply escaped into this one. Leafy knew that her garden became overgrown quite easily. It was reasonable to suspect that the plants in the mansion were similar.
“Maybe we should get some pumpkins to carve after this,” Leafy mused.
It was early in the season, but Leafy was fond of this time of the year. Everyone became fascinated with monsters and she didn’t seem so weird for liking them herself. She leaned close to Lotus and gave the halfbreed a quick scratch behind the ears, suddenly feeling a tad lonely. The girl could always try meeting new people, but that was rather daunting and she wasn’t very good at it.
“I’m fine with just my pets and me alone,” she said.

“I don’t see any doors,” she commented aloud.
Lotus perked up at her words, taking a moment to pause and look around the room. Of course, the halfbreed didn’t know she was asking about doors, but the tone in her voice made the Orbicus curious. Leafy was fond of puzzles and the mansion was full of them. She always thought the mansion had a certain amount of intelligence to it and that it had picked up on this fact. Why else would she face so many locked rooms?
“Help me look!”
Leafy beckoned Lotus over by clicking her tongue. The Orbicus trotted over, her ears pricked over as she came to investigate the sound. She sniffed at Leafy, wagging her tail once she figured out the girl was making the noise. The girl laughed, running her fingers through the soft fur on the halfbreed’s back. With the creature close, Leafy felt more confident investigating.

A strong and deep purple bunch of grapes on a vine are leaned up nearby. At the base of it, a green marble sits.

Lotus suddenly rocketed across the room. Her attention had been captured by an object that Leafy hadn’t noticed before. The girl was quick to intercept the halfbreed, not wanting her to be harmed by consuming something unknown to them. Once she had a steady hold on the object, she took the time to examine it. It had been one of the vines, snapped off and leaning against the wall. Surprisingly, this one had a bunch of grapes growing from the end. From what she had read, grapes could be poisonous to canines. As such, she would need to keep the grapes well away from the reach of Lotus.
“Sorry girl, these aren’t safe for you to eat.”
Leafy felt bad putting the grapes away. She hadn’t exactly packed snacks for the journey. She would need to find some other way to distract her companion. Perhaps there would be something else in the room.

It didn’t take Lotus long to find something else to amuse herself with. She pounced on some small, round object and sent it rolling across the length of the room. Leafy was quick to place the grapes in her backpack to keep them well away from any hungry snouts. From the sounds of it, the object was small and harmless. She would wait for Lotus to grow bored with it before she went to retrieve it. For now, she took it upon herself to examine the rest of the room. It appeared like she was in a dining room with an obvious absence of food. The only food source she had found so far was that vine of grapes. An oddity for sure, but with the mansion, nothing was too unusual. The large central table was adorned with decorations. There were bronze statues of different lab species. Leafy stepped closer to the table to examine them.

As she drew closer to the statues, she could make out the different species they were meant to represent. The one closest to her was large and dragon like. It took her a few seconds to identify it as a Tat-Lung. It was regal and mighty. It was easier for Leafy to identify Tat-Lung by the colouring, but that was impossible when the only colour was the bronze from the statue. If she had to take a guess, she presumed this was meant to be a gold Tat-Lung. She touched the statue, it was heavier than she expected, but she managed to pick it up. Paws thudded across the room as Lotus continued chasing after the marble. The Orbacus was fairly light, but any creature when riled up could be destructive. The statues didn’t seem like they’d break easily, but there was definitely some sort of puzzle here. If Leafy wanted to solve it, she’d need to keep Lotus away from them.

The marble would keep Lotus distracted for now and it would be easy enough to track by the noise it made as it rolled across the floor. For now, Leafy could focus on the statues. The second statue that she could reach was smaller than the Tat-Lung one. She ran her fingers across the surface, trying to make out the figure etched within the bronze. This one was slender and cat-like. It took Leafy a few moments before she settled on Mosca. She couldn’t tell what type of Mosca it was just yet. She lifted it up, making sure not to accidentally drop it on her toe. The statue was heavy enough that it would definitely hurt.
“Are you doing okay over there, Lotus?” she called out suddenly to the Orbacus.
Lotus yipped in response. The creature thudded after the elusive marble as it once again rolled away from her grasping paws.

Leafy took this time to examine the Mosca statue in closer detail. It was then that she noticed the thick mane surrounding the Mosca’s neck. That meant that this one was meant to depict a Mighty Mosca. Satisfied with her deduction, she placed the statue back on the table. There were four more statues for a total of six. It would take Leafy a moment to identify each of the creatures they were meant to be.
“Just keep busy for a while, okay?” Leafy once again spoke to Lotus.
The Orbacus had managed to lose the marble within a tangle of vines. She was busy chewing on the plants, trying to free her prize. Leafy snorted, amused by the sight. As long as she was distracted, it meant that the girl could work without interference. Onto statue number three. This statue was larger than the Mosca one, but was more canine in nature.

A lone wheat effigy sits, looking quite alone. Is it scared? Something about those beady little eyes looks frightened. What is that all about?

Leafy’s attention suddenly drifted towards an object that was out of place on the table with the bronze statues. There was a small effigy, made out of what appeared to be wheat. She lifted it up, feeling a sudden rush of sadness fill her chest. Was she crying? The sadness of the effigy seemed to have infected her. She shuddered but she couldn’t bare to put the sad looking object down. She shrugged off her backpack and placed the item with. It still unnerved her, but Leafy calmed down once she zipped the backpack up and it was out of sight.
“I hope that didn’t make you feel sad either,” she remarked to Lotus.
The Orbicus had managed to chew through the vines and roll the marble out from the tangled mess. She appeared triumphant and that possibly overshadowed any sadness she felt from the effigy. Either that or she hadn’t been effected at all.

Now that the effigy was put away, Leafy could once again focus on the puzzle. She moved the two statues she’d already examined closely to the left. Now she could focus on the canine statue. This one was wolf-life, but it was larger than a fair chunk of the Vulticus species. The body was long, slender, and almost dragon-like in nature. Across the back of the statue, bronze was flicked up as though meant to represent fire. It took her a moment to settle on Rakai-Sarane. She had a few in her kennel so she was vaguely familiar with the species. She had yet to spend any substantial amount of time with them, however. There was bronze plating underneath the statue’s sculpted feet. Was this meant to be a shadow? This would make the statue a depiction of a Death Rakai in that case. Lotus chose that moment to let out a playful bark, almost causing Leafy to drop the statue.

Satisfied with her deduction, Leafy placed the statue carefully on the table with the others she had already examined. There were three more statues left for a total of six. She picked up the next one, glancing at Lotus as she did so to ensure that the Orbicus wouldn’t bother her as she worked. Lotus was busy swiping at the marble with her paws. It was ever elusive, choosing that moment to roll away and into Leafy’s direction at the table. Leafy made sure to hold the table steady as Lotus bounced around it. It took her a few moments before she managed to send the marble in a new direction. Leafy relaxed once the halfbreed had chased the marble across to the other side of the room.
“Now I just need you to stay over there,” Leafy muttered to herself.
Now she could look at the next statue without worry.

The next statue was massive, even larger than the Tat-Lung one had been. It was a large sea monster and immediately she could identify it as a species of Pliathor. The species would be a lot more difficult to identify. Pliathor mostly differed in their colouring and the one species that was blind. However, there was nothing off about the eyes on this statue, suggesting that it was one of the species with sight. There would be no way to determine exactly which species it was without guessing. For now, she would look at a different statue and come back to that one later. She heard a crashing noise that indicated that Lotus had crashed into something. A quick glance over confirmed that the Orbicus had indeed knocked over some sort of hat stand. The wood had crashed to the ground where it lay undamaged. At least it hadn’t broken.

The next statue was smaller in comparison. This species Leafy knew quite well. From the slender fox-like face and the small body, it was easy for her to identify a Felusine. The bronze had been molded into a very specific pattern, one that Leafy could tell was meant to be a Marked Felusine.
“At least I’m positive about that one!” she exclaimed.
Lotus perked up at the sound of her voice. The Orbicus trotted over happily, the marble momentarily forgotten. She sniffed at the girl’s clothing, interested in the different scents that leafy had picked up while in the mansion. Leafy laughed and scratched the halfbreed behind her ears. Her puzzle solving might be slow going, but the entire purpose of this trip was to spend some time with Lotus. The exploration was just the icing on the cake. She was glad that Lotus was warming up to her. The halfbreed had a sweet and playful nature.

At the base of a statue, something gleams. What a beautiful glass eye! The orange hue is really reminiscent of autumn.
