The trees in this area varied in what species they were, but Honeydew was drawn to a particular one. It was a maple tree, but it appeared to be larger than was typical. It was a young tree, and it wasn't even close to fully grown, but she was certain that the leaves it had would be pretty. The leaves were large and fluttering gently in the breeze, and the tree's trunk was covered with thick bark. Leafy found some interest in these trees as well and plucked some leaves to inspect. She decided to pocket a few, intending on pressing them into the pages of a book when she got back home. Cork was already wandering off again, and Leafy quickly realized that she had slackened his leash too much.
Honeydew was watching as Leafy looked around for potential things to harvest. The girl always kept an eye out for something that might be desirable to others. There was also the fact that collecting different plants could be used to create new kinds of Pachee through the Pachee Pollen Project. Leafy was determined to do her part, wanting to collect as many new Pachee as she could. Honeydew perched on the branches of the maple tree, enjoying the view.

As Cork was walking around, he came across another patch of plants. These were entirely unfamiliar to Leafy. However, Honeydew seemed quite drawn to them. She landed on the ground close by and picked a few of them to look at them closely. They didn't appear too remarkable, so Leafy decided to leave these ones to grow on their own as well. Honeydew picked through the plants and decided that there wasn't anything worth taking either. Cork began to tug rather incessantly on the leash, demanding that they leave to explore some more.
Leafy let him lead her away but made sure that Honeydew was close at hand. She didn't want to lose sight of her of the tiny Faeron. Honeydew had gotten pretty good at flying, but she still had trouble focusing on all the body movements she needed to think about as she flew. It wasn't easy to navigate through the foliage either. She had to keep a close eye on the space around her, making sure that she didn't crash into anything. Cork led Leafy towards the edge of another pond and stopped in front of it. She noticed how this one was covered in a group of lily pads.

Leafy figured that perhaps this pond was home to some form of aquatic creature. Perhaps a frog or a fish, but she didn't see any out and about right now. To her surprise, there did seem to be some strange bugs about that she had never seen before. Cork was immediately drawn to them, while Honeydew decided to stay far away from the insects. Leafy decided to follow Cork's lead and approached the insects. From a closer view, they weren't just ordinary insects, but instead they were some kind of strange pocket pet. It turned out they weren't simply scurrying about randomly, but were instead drawn to a weird black flower. It seemed out of place where it was so Leafy went closer to pick it up.
When she picked up the flower, she realized that it was rather egg-like in appearance. Would a creature hatch from this? She tucked the egg securely away in one of her pockets, not wanting to leave it alone inside her backpack. She'd look into it some more when she got back home. If it was going to hatch into something, Leafy would need to be prepared. Cork seemed disappointed she took the flower away.

Leafy chose to distract him instead, nudging him towards the small pocket pets. Honeydew watched in fascination as Cork approached them. She was nervous to be around new creatures, but decided if Cork could handle them, so could she. Cork was a bit hesitant, but when one drew too close to him, he took a chance and decided to bite at it. Deciding to save the critter from its fate of being lunch, she quickly scooped them both up and stored them with the rest of her garden finds.
Cork's movements were somewhat restricted by the leash, but he seemed content enough for now. He wasn't used to being in his own habitat and was getting more acclimated to the garden. He seemed quite pleased with the territory they had found themselves in. Cork seemed satisfied by this and made his way through the garden plot, taking Leafy with him as he explored the place further. He eventually stopped at an area that contained a lot of tall grass. Honeydew followed them in the air, using her wings to her advantage. Cork soon came across a strange red bush, its leaves had a shiny look and when the sunlight hit them, they sparkled.

Cork decided that it would be fun to attack the bush, so he extended his vines and wrapped them around the plant. Leafy tried to tug him back, but Cork wouldn't let go. She soon got fed up with him and decided to simply allow his antics. Since Cork was now firmly acclimated to the garden and there was no chance of him being able to leave her garden plot, Leafy decided to free him from his leash. She was confident that he wouldn't be able to get into too much trouble here. And if he did, then he wasn't really her problem anymore, was he?
Honeydew fluttered over to watch the show as Cork was taken off the leash. He began to dig into the bush with his front claws, the movement managing to distress the bush which immediately uprooted from the ground. Leafy supposed that he didn't want that bush in particular in his territory. Honeydew felt a bit distressed at the destruction, but the girl stepped over and offered a hand for her to land on. She gladly accepted. Cork then began to chase butterflies around the garden. He wasn’t very good at running and couldn’t catch up to them, however.

The Whiptail Vinesnatcher was unhappy that he couldn't catch them, and Leafy supposed that he might be lonely. She enjoyed her adventures more with Honeydew along, perhaps she should get Cork a companion as well? She'd keep that idea in mind as they explored. Maybe he could even find companionship in a similar kind of pocket pet? She would need to keep searching for a suitable one. The next thing she came across was a large clearing where the grass was long dead in the summer sun.
The next thing she came across was a large clearing where the grass was long dead in the summer sun. Leafy wondered if she should try watering the area, or if that would be too much of a waste of water. Cork had gotten bored of his endeavors and decided to join her in looking for other plants. Honeydew climbed onto her shoulder, using her newfound height to get a better vantage point. Leafy began to pluck grass and turn it over in her hands. She needed to make sure that the sun had indeed been the culprit in browning the grass. She didn't want the cause to have instead been some fire breathing creature.

The grass was crisp in her hands, and she was quick to drop it onto the ground. If it had been a creature, she couldn't see any additional signs of there being one around. She'd get it watered tomorrow. There were still plenty of things she could collect today. Honeydew wanted to look for more things to add to their haul, so she flew off into the sky. She decided to take her time with this task, fluttering about the garden while Leafy worked. Before long, she returned with a small collection of clovers and stuffed them into Leafy's pockets. She then climbed back onto Leafy's shoulder and curled up in the hood of her sweater to take a nap. For now, she and Cork would be going it alone.
Leafy decided to observe Cork for a while. His movements were slow and deliberate as he wandered about the area. He stopped in his tracks and glanced over at a patch of flowers. He quickly shot forward and tried to eat them. He then decided that he didn't like the taste of them and spat them out. Leafy picked them up and smelled them, but they seemed strangely odorless. It was no wonder that Cork didn't like the taste.

Since Cork appeared to be hungry, Leafy decided that she was going to train him to do the easiest trick that she could, and he could get a few snacks if he did the trick right. Deciding that teaching him his name was going to be the easiest Leafy grabbed the jar of jerky and centered herself in the dead grass field. That was about the extent of the prep work needed for the trick and she started by calling out his name. “Cork!” she cried in a loud tone. The Whiptail Vinesnatcher pointedly ignored her until she shook the jar of treats she had taken out. Only then did he amble over and try and take one from her. He didn’t get very far considering she hadn’t even opened the jar yet. When she did, she called out his name again. “Cork!” She called out, holding up one of the treats for him to see. He responded by making an attempt at snatching the treat. She moved it out of reach and called out his name once more. When he settled down and looked at her, only then did she allow him to have it. He immediately scarfed it down and then attempted to get another one.
Leafy shook her head no. He had done well enough for his first attempt, but he'd need to work harder than that for another. After all, you couldn't expect much from a plain old regular Whiptail Vinesnatcher.
“Cork!” she called his name out. This time, he waited for her to hand him his treat with more patience than he had before. He chomped it down quickly and then scratched at the ground as he was impatient to get more. Leafy took a few steps away from him, deciding that he needed to work harder to learn his name.

"Cork!" she called out again. Since she was further away, Cork had to amble over before he was given his next treat. He gladly snatched it from her hand before she had even let go and began to munch on it.
When he was done, she moved the jar further away from him. This time he made an attempt to follow, but she quickly took a step back, moving the jar out of his reach. She then hid the jar behind her back, wanting to see if he'd respond to her even without a treat incentive. The Whiptail Vinesnatcher seemed disgruntled by this, he was displeased that he couldn't smell the treats anymore. How could he get them back? He moved closer and glanced up at her, wondering where the treats had gone. "Good boy, Cork!" she praised him, deciding that his efforts to respond to his name were adequate enough.

She handed him another treat, pulling it out from its hiding place behind her back. He accepted it eagerly and Leafy wondered if he could even taste the treat with how quickly he ate it up. The Whiptail Vinesnatcher was now in a good mood, having gotten a few treats. Leafy decided to move away from him again, trying to test if he would still respond to his name. She hid herself behind a tree, wondering if Cork was smart enough to figure out where she was.
“Cork!”
The Whiptail Vinesnatcher seemed happy that she was calling his name again. He looked around, trying to pinpoint where Leafy was. After a while, he made his way to her side and looked up at her, waiting for his treat. Leafy beamed down at him and gave him another treat. Cork munched on it happily, lashing his vines out happily in between chomps.

She decided that it was time to test how well he had learned his name. First, she called out a different name, “Honeydew!” Cork glanced around, but he didn’t expect a treat to be given to him since she hadn’t made the right sound. Instead, the Whiptail Vinesnatcher turned away, no longer interested in Leafy if she wasn’t going to give him treats. Just as he was about to leave the area, Leafy called out the correct name. “Cork!”
This one he recognized. He turned back, glancing up at Leafy and waiting impatiently for her to reward his efforts. She had already pulled a treat from her hiding place, and she handed it to him. He snatched it contentedly, sniffing at the ground for where she had stashed the treats. Wanting to make sure he was truly responding to his name, Leafy decided to forgo the treat the next few times.

"Cork," she called out suddenly, waiting to see how he would respond.
Cork responded quickly by positioning himself closer to Leafy and peering up at her in anticipation of another treat.
"Good boy, Cork!" the girl praised him instead of handing him more food. She leaned down and gave him a quick pat on the head, not really trusting him not to bite her. He didn’t seem to mind, but he would have preferred the food instead. Now that she had taken the treats out of the equation, Leafy wanted to test and see if he would still respond. She moved herself away from him before calling out his name.
“Cork!” He immediately turned towards her and peered up expectantly. It was almost like a reflex at this point. Leafy decided that was good enough and he had probably learned his name. She handed him one last treat before she put them away, intending to explore the garden some more.
