Renathan tried to hide his quiet disappointment behind his mask, but the equillion did not need to see his face in order to read him. The stallion stared at him with big soul-full eyes for a moment, and Renathan could see the question. "Nothing you did, big un'." Renathan said, reassuringly. The equillion seemed to right himself for a moment, and semi-canter away, hood-beats the same strange gait that Renathan was quiet used to. Renathan backed up, curious to see if the stallion was just going to work out some of his excess energy or something. The stallion did so; running from one side of the fence to the other as fast as possible. He ran across the ground like he had wings; not even touching the grass due to his strange... Pure equillion abilities. Renathan watched him with a bit of awe, not even considering the fact that it was possible that this excess energy might have been a byproduct of the injection.

Renathan should have been surprised when he saw what he saw; but he wasn't as surprised as he should have been. The equillion was excitedly racing around when he seemed to make a very tight twist, and then rear. As soon as he did; as if it were choreographed, a lightning bolt struck a tree not fifty feet away from the equillion. Thankfully, it was much further away from Renathan; simply nearly deafening him with the resultant soundwave. Renathan pressed his hands to his ears and closed his eyes for a brief moment, the flash making his eyes have to completely readjust. The equillion, as soon as Renathan opened his eyes to check on the creature, was not only unaffected, but more curious than cautious; strange for a general plant-eating mammal. Renathan slowly moved forward toward the equillion, and the stallion closed the gap to him. He was cautious and fearful, his ears still ringing from the relative proximity.

Renathan was having a hard time thinking, to be honest. He could still feel a ringing in his ears, and the lightning hadn't even been close enough to hurt him; he was lucky. Or at least he thought he was. As soon as his mind began clearing, he realized something didn't really add up here. It made sense somewhat that his equillion would have some kind of a resistance to the lightning; he did just receive an electric injection after all. However... There was not supposed to be a storm today. Now, storm-clouds were beginning to roll in? But the sky was just clear a second ago. A Bolt From the Blue. Suddenly, everything began to fall into place. Renathan stared at the equillion, his ears finally beginning to recover. The equillion did that. Shy Guy made a lightning strike that tree. Renathan was both mortified and amazed; knowing that this added layer of danger might made for trouble in the future.

Having elemental creatures on the farm make it a very possibly dangerous affair. Renathan knew that he was going to have to get lightning rods put down in strategic places on the farm now, and that made him chuckle. He should have guessed that something like this would have happened; he'd given several creatures fire powers using fire injections before, so it seemed like this actually made more sense than he had previously thought. Renathan stood, shakily, realizing that he was on his knees, and then moved on his toes over to the equillion, where it stood staring curiously at the smoldering tree, as if Shy Guy knew that he had done that for sure. Renathan gave the creature a piece of apple, and lots of praise. Now, he was going to have to come up with some idea of a command word for the lightning attack. He bit his lip for a moment, curiously. He was wondering if it would be overkill to shock an opponent with lightning.

Renathan knew that lots of creatures had enough sense of self to be able to take a fire breath much better than a very well placed claw attack, and he really had to think about it such things. He wasn't too sure how to tell how much damage some of the stronger attacks did in comparison to creature body sizes; and how the people in the pit could tell well enough to scold him for using the wrong ones. Renathan decided on a command word cautiously. It would be best if he trained the creature this behavior's word now instead of allowing the creature to grow out of control and use it at random times. Renathan stepped back, and looked the equillion in the eyes. Yes, he was going to have to get ready for this instead of just working with it. He didn't need to get accidentally shocked by lightning, or stunned by the aftereffects, again.

Renathan takes Shy Guy and leaves for home to dodge the rain storm that was now brewing. Renathan had no idea how the lightning thing worked, he was a bit concerned about trying it. However, if he could get this to work for them, they could really use this! Renathan brings the stallion out with him the next day on the newly dry grass, glad that today was not even calling for clouds. He knew that this would answer a lot of the questions he had about how this new power worked. On the stallion's back were several long metal poles. Renathan was planning on affixing them beside rocks to help draw the lightning and keep them safe from harm as he trains the stallion to make use of this possibly excellent battle tactic. Renathan was worried, but quite happy about the aspect. He knew that something like this could have happened, but he was still a bit shocked that the powers had manifested to this degree.

Renathan quickly got the lightning rods set up near rocks, making sure to ground them decently. He was quite nervous by the time he got done, cautious and anxious all in one go. He knew that any misstep with such a dangerous power could get either of them hurt. Shy Guy was not near as nervous. He followed Renathan with a surety and confidence in his movements that made Renathan a bit envious; he wished that he felt as confident as this creature now. He hadn't really felt like himself in at least a year... Perhaps it was the relative isolation. He had began to feel like the Labs was winding, dying down. Renathan swallowed, and stepped back, staring the equillion in the eyes. "Alrighty boyo, let's see if we can't get you to do that whole lightning thing." His anxiety showed in the conversational tone he used.

The equillion made up for Renathan's relatively newfound anxiety. He did, after all, seem to know what Renathan wanted from him before Renathan even knew himself sometimes. The equillion seems to gather himself, and then stalks away, closer to a lightning rod and further away from Renathan purposefully, as if indicating that he knew at least somewhat what needed to go on. Shy Guy had been trained so often before that he seemed to know that Renathan intended on starting up another training session. Renathan had decided on a command; an ear-splitting and long whistle that reminded him of thunder in a wheedle-y way. Renathan swallowed once, and then backed up a few more steps to get away from all of the lightning rods. Afterwards, he felt much more confident. Renathan gathers up his voice; and gives that ear-splitting whistle. Shy Guy could tell he'd never heard that noise before; and that it meant they were on something new.

Shy Guy was as witty as any other pure equillion, but he was so very used to Renathan, so very good at judging his body movements, and so very good at understanding this emotional bond that they had, that the equillion triangulated the fear that Renathan had right now to associate it with the lightning bolt he had caused the day before. The whistle was a new command, he'd heard many of these whistles before, after all. The equillion puts two and two together, perhaps leaning on Renathan's baited breath, which at this point he could practically feel. The stallion turns, and begins building that same energy from the day before, focusing on a tree beyond him aggressively. Shy Guy lowers his head, his skin twitching on one side of his body in the way he would normally use to remove pests. Suddenly; a lightning bolt comes from the blue; towards the tree.

Renathan was shocked, not only did the equillion get what he wanted quite quickly; but he seemed naturally good at it. As the bolt from the blue struck; it was drawn to the nearest lightning rod thankfully. Especially since Renathan figured that the equillion had tried to strike a tree again, possibly. Well, this was good. That meant that the equillion could indeed choose what to strike. He wondered if, when the time came, the equillion would strike a living creature with it. Renathan kind of hoped that they would not have to use it, but he figured that it was best to have at least some elemental option when going up against creatures that could nimbly stay out of the jaws or away from the hooves or claws of an attacker. Renathan was quiet for a moment, and then he quickly began calling out praise! The stallion moved over to him quickly, and Renathan gave him a piece of the pink apples he was using for his treats all this time.

This was good, this was very good. They still had a ton of things to work on after they continued working on this; there was still a small amount of training bits and bobs he wanted to work on with both Shy Guy and Auburn; then after that he really needed to work on Lisle... There was so much stuff he still needed to do. Renathan let the stallion finish the apple before they both moved back in tandem into their positions; Renathan as far away from any lightning rods as possible; and the equillion closer to them. This way, Renathan wouldn't get hurt most likely. Then, Renathan used the command again; the long ear-splitting whistle. Shy Guy was every bit more confident than Renathan had been, though Renathan was feeling a lot better about this now. The equillion seems to focus again, this time on one of the lightning rods, lowering his horn to point towards it. Then, Renathan could see the stallion twitch slightly; as if energy was moving toward him a bit.

Renathan was happy to see the lightning this time. He was very lucky that he was so far away; the lightning bolt was absolutely terrifying and somewhat stunning. The mammalian still felt a bit uneasy about this; but the proximity and the repetition was making him feel better about this, at least. Renathan calls out for Shy Guy, and gives him lots of praise for the direct strike, and then quickly gave the stallion a piece of pink apple for his trouble as per usual. Renathan stared out at the area as the equillion finished his treat, and then they resumed yet again. The stallion rushed out to the area he was supposed to be again, and then Renathan used the whistle command again; almost ear-splitting. Renathan had chosen well; he was sure that the command at least would shock opponents. Most of their commands were whistles, which he figured would be awesome for keeping people from knowing what they were going to do.

Renathan knew from experience that commands that could be easily read by opponents were a bad idea. He hated how the opponents were able to come up with an extra plan after he had acted, but if he waited too long, then it was basically like giving up. He thought about this often, trying to figure out ways to really get around this issue. He looses himself for a moment and is startled by the clap of thunder that occurred after Shy Guy did what he was supposed to and called lightning down. Renathan shuddered a bit, pulled from his mental rant. He blinked for a moment, and then called out lots of praise. He wondered if Shy Guy could feel Renathan whenever Renathan kind of spaced out... Oh well. Shy Guy moved over to Renathan to get his apple piece again, and Renathan quickly petted the stallion's muzzle happily.

Renathan stepped back after a moment, glad that they were really making some progress. It was taking Shy Guy less and less time each time they did this to actually call down the lightning strikes. Renathan decided that they should keep working with this as best as possible. Soon, Renathan figured that they would move over to something else. There was always something more to move on to with the training, and if they kept on at this pace it was likely that they would have time to work on one more behavior... Renathan watches as Shy Guy moves back over to the correct place, and Renathan whistles the command again, very loud. The stallion wasted no time, he was quick and merciless. Another lightning bolt fell down with a peal of thunder, striking one of the lightning rods with a deep and loud crack. Renathan smiled, behind the mask. Yes, this was going very well.

Renathan did notice that he wasn't near as scared of it this time; he was beginning to acclimate to the noise quite well. Renathan didn't know how... Safe this would be to use in the pit, but he knew that there weren't quite as many spectators in the pit as there used to be, so maybe there wouldn't be anyone to hurt with it by accident. Renathan called out lots of praise to the stallion, and then readied to get another pink apple piece for him. He chuckled under his breath a bit; the stallion was starting to get a big head about this, he could easily tell from the creature's movements. Renathan playfully pushed the stallion on his shoulder when he came closer, and then gave him the piece of pink apple while chuckling at the stallion's dance-y antics. Well, today was winding up to be a decent day so far. Renathan felt silly for even worrying about it before.
