Returning to the adoption agency was strangely nostalgic. It had not been long since they had been here in actuality, but with all that had occurred and the many adventures they had already been on, returning to the first location they had visited in the City brought with it a strange host of sensations. Once again, it was late in the evening, just before the establishment was set to close. The streets were quiet and they were hoping that, once again, the agency would be as well. Of course, they could not avoid everyone. Creeping inside, Zenjesi communicated with Matthew largely with pointing and nods of the head towards the back room. They accepted the stack of adoption forms from him and quickly excused themselves, breathing a sigh of relief the moment that the heavy door closed them in with the beasts. It was then that they noticed there was another hall. [Applying for: Candycorn Bat]

On their first visit they had been evidently blinded a bit by their nerves, as they had entered the first door they had seen. That one had led to the larger and more vicious creatures where they had met Vivial. Though they would not exactly call her 'vicious', she was also admittedly not easy to handle. Their eyes turned to the other door, which indicated it housed the companion creatures. They pushed that one open this time.
The satyr picked their way down the hall, casting glances into each cage as they walked past. Many of these were much smaller beasts, some of them almost unidentifiable as anything other than sleeping orbs of fluff. They came in various shades and sizes and textures, and Zenjesi was not sure how they were going to eliminate any of their options until they spotted one that was currently shrouded in leathery wings and hanging upside down.

The cage bore a note that indicated he had just finished recovering from a wing injury, and was thus at the agency a bit out of the standard season. "I am lucky," Zenjesi whispered, and it seemed the hissing sound of their voice caused the little creature to wake. Though, it was not exactly accurate to call him little. As he came to, his wings stretched out to their full span, revealing massive ears and a voluminous tail that rivaled the size of the rest of his body. It swished once as his mouth opened in a little grin, and an ear-ringing sudden cacophony of squeaking burst forth. They winced at the noise, but the bat seemed undeterred. He flapped his wings once at Zenjesi's appearance. Reaching forward with the little fingers on his wings, he grasped into the grate of the cage, beginning to creep his way down closer to the satyr.

Carefully, eyes trained on his body language, Zenjesi reached a hand up and extended one finger towards him. He was kept on the 'companion' side of the kennel; that ought to mean something, would it not? His head cocked, ears swiveled, tail swished once more as he leaned forward, nose working towards the satyr's fingertip. They hesitated one more instant before pressing it up to the grate. He moved forward, mouth open, faster than Zenjesi's reflexes and... began to lick it repetitively. They chuckled, moving a second finger up to his reach. Just as quickly, he switched to licking that one instead. "What is the taste?" Zenjesi wondered aloud, resisting the urge to taste their own fingertips. They had not touched anything edible recently; it must have just been a show of affection. They gave him a small smile, using one finger on their unoccupied hand to scratch his chest through the cage.

Now, his tail was swishing faster. He nibbled gently once on Zenjesi's fingertip. Instinctively, they pulled away, but he clearly had not been intending to break the skin and did not. The moment they were out of reach, he resumed his squeaking, sticking his nose between the grate at them. "You are eager to fly again," Zenjesi sympathized. They took one step back and the squeaking grew immediately more insistent. They chuckled again, bowing their head. "You have made the choice," they acknowledged. Now they just had to ensure they did not make the same mistake as last time... Carefully positioning their hands to pick him up, they clicked the clasp on the cage open. The door swung open with his weight and they felt a moment of panic as he suddenly began to move -- if he escaped, how would they catch an airborne, cat-sized bat? -- but his only move was to clamber onto and then up Zenjesi's arm, settling in upon their shoulder. It was settled.
