Having grown quite fond of Florian, Zenjesi had speculated that he might appreciate a four-legged friend. Thus, they had found another breed of Bulldozer available for adoption and taken Lillian back to their kennel. However, this bayou in particular seemed particularly timid. It took specific encouragement to move her just about anywhere. That was not to say she was not still aggressive; the amulet they had used with Florian was now secured around her neck. Yet, her reactions seemed more driven by fear than irritation. While Zenjesi was attempting to grant her some exposure via a painfully slow and reluctant walk around the City, they discovered a job board and paused for a perusal.
A particularly frantic-looking note requested help with pests in someone's garden. Zenjesi rolled their eyes. Some people were quite melodramatic, but at least a garden was something they could handle. "Come, Lillian," they urged her, memorizing the address on the note.

By the time they had finally dragged, bribed, and pleaded with Lillian to reach the individual's home, Zenjesi had quite forgotten societal norms. Without a second thought, they maneuvered their way into the person's backyard, where a waist-high fence indicated a garden may be hidden within. They leaned over to take stock. Well, it certainly looked a bit overgrown, likely because of these aforementioned pests. But where were -- Oh. They had not noticed them for a moment simply because they had not expected what they were now seeing. The entire garden was writhing with massive caterpillars. No plant or surface was untouched. Each had to have been the length of one of Zenjesi's fingers, but was the thickness of two of them. They stood there for a long moment before realizing their mouth was slightly ajar. ... Alright, perhaps they had been a bit premature to judge. ... This was unarguably a problem.

"Lillian," Zenjesi whispered back to their companion for the day. "We have a job." Fortuitously, someone walked past on the sidewalk just then, which led the Bulldozer to hiss and scurry after Zenjesi. The satyr took their cue from the fact that she was moving in the correct direction to quickly locate and open the gate. They offered her the entrance as a sanctuary, and she blessedly accepted. Zenjesi followed, closing it behind them and then turning to review the garden once again. The average person would fairly find the view disgusting. Admittedly, Zenjesi did find it horrific as well. Were these Lab-born caterpillars? If so, they had clearly been allowed to propagate uncontrollably and unsustainably. Zenjesi feared for the fauna of the City.
Zenjesi narrowed their eyes thoughtfully, glancing down to Lillian. Perhaps this job would be a good opportunity for them both; it could teach Lillian that venturing out could be rewarded and earn Zenjesi some goodwill with the people.

The satyr shook their head. "Let us begin," they whispered to Lillian. Now that she was safely contained within the fence, they unclipped her leash and tucked it away. Then they turned back, locating the most obvious mass of caterpillars. It was so heavy collectively that it was causing the poor plant it graced to droop sadly. What were the odds that these little things possessed some unexpected power, like the ability to breathe fire when prodded by an unsuspecting satyr? Bracing themselves, they reached out and scooped up two handfuls of wriggling insects. No elemental powers burst forth, their fingers did not begin to melt from some corroding acid, and it seemed they were even safe from the most likely culprit: bites. It seemed the only danger they posed was to plant life. They exhaled a quick sigh of relief, scurrying over to Lillian. "I have dinner." They crouched, offering their hands as a bowl.

The writhing movement was enough to finally entice Lillian. Her head slowly turned, jaws opened a crack. Zenjesi closed their eyes so they did not flinch; they would need to trust the amulet. Lillian struck. Half of the caterpillars disappeared in her mouth. "Good," they praised her, relieved. They deposited the rest in the grass and hurrying back to work. They fell into a rhythm: Zenjesi would gather up as many caterpillars as they could carry and bring them to Lillian, who had become quite eager. As they worked, the sun sank low, Zenjesi's knees became stained with dirt, and their hands thick with caterpillar slime. Eventually, Lillian found the courage to seek out a caterpillar on her own; she spied one Zenjesi had shaken loose wiggling under a bush, and crept under to snap it up. Finally, every last insect rooted out, Zenjesi collected the cross-sections of caterpillar from Lillian's carnage, while she settled down sleepily. They suspected they would be carrying her back to the kennel.
