She... was struggling lately, and she didn't know what was going wrong with her. Jack looked out over the horizon with a frown and shook her head, it was just... hard. The little Pachee on the ground next to her as she sat with her back against a bench outside of the Breeding Center stared at her as well, and the woman fought to smile a little at her. It wasn't the little critter's fault she was so out of touch lately, and by lately she meant... the past year or two at this point. Things had to change, and having Nina contact her about a breeding had perked her up, if only for a moment. Was it anxiety? Jack looked at her fingers and frowned a little, she had chewed her nails and the skin around them quite a bit, but at least they weren't practically raw anymore. Maybe this would help her out, but she wasn't going to hold her breath she thought as she patted the glowing Pachee on the head.

Nina hadn't seen her friend Jack in quite a while, so she decided to reach out with something simple - a Pachee breeding request. While Nina tended to prefer Orbaru, she knew Jack liked Pachee and would be keen to accept her invitation. She felt a bit guilty, wondering if she let life get in the way of one of her oldest friendships. She came prepared to apologize, reciting the words in her head the whole way down.
Peppy could smell the scent of another Pachee before he could see her. He began to wiggle in Nina's arm and thump his tail against her torso. "Careful, now," she said, adjusting him so he was less likely to hurt himself with all the squirming. Then, she suddenly realized that he was probably doing it for a reason. She looked up to see Jack sitting on a bench. She floated over eagerly, her shimmering wings carrying her effortlessly though the air.
"Jack..." was all she said. Whatever she had rehearsed was long gone from her mind.

The Pachee at her feet started to bob around a little, and Jack managed a small sigh as she chewed on her lip a bit. Had to mean someone was coming, and she finally glanced up to see Nina floating over with a little male Pachee herself. She usually liked Orbaru better, Jack wasn't sure why she had suggested Pachee this time, not that she was... really complaining, she guessed. Her name... right. How long had it been since she'd really talked to someone? Hearing another voice that wasn't one of her animals sounded strange, but hopefully she would get used to it again.
Jack pushed herself up from the bench and gave a small half smile, "Hey Nina. I uh... one of these days when I hole up I'll... actually be doing something interesting... instead of being pathetic." She glanced down and swallowed hard before looking up at her friend again, "Thanks though, for dragging me out... you're still the best person I know."

Nina was extremely nervous during the moment before Jack finally spoke. It felt like it took forever. A million doubts shot across her mind. Was her friend upset, had she forgotten what she looked like? No, that was silly. Wasn't it?
She listened intently to what Jack had to say, and her antennae instantly sank. She didn't hear the compliment, only the self disparaging comment. Was Jack feeling unwell? Was it her fault? Maybe she shouldn't have pushed for this.
"I am just glad you are here," she said. The way she said it was gentle and earnest. "Do you... do you want to go inside... and talk?"
Peppy clearly loved this idea, as he began to wiggle around and reach out to grab Jack. Nina continued to adjust him so that he couldn't cause too much trouble, but she did think it would be a good idea to take him inside as soon as possible so he could run off all that energy.

"Oh, yeah, definitely," Jack told her friend with a little smile, plucking Firelight off of the ground and into her arms quickly. The little Pachee's wings fluttered a little while she gave the woman an upset look, but hey, she wasn't too worked up she supposed, she could still see the pretty male, right?
Chewing her lip a little, she opened up the door and gestured at the door with her head, looking over at Nina. She was being awkward, she knew that, but what was she supposed to do? What was she supposed to say anyway? She didn't want Nina to think anything was her fault, but... looking at the drooping antennae, she figured that... might be the case. "I drop off sometimes..." the words came out before she really knew what she was saying, "Moods can be weird sometimes. It's... easier? Sometimes at least, to just detach, especially when I feel I'm a burden." A quick smile and she looked down again.
