Indeed, the best these beasts can muster in terms of any aggressive behaviour is accidentally knocking over furniture or an involuntary slight static sting from that silky smooth fur when petting it for too long. On the whole that could hardly be seen as a crutch, however. Their sleek and nimble builds make them quite attractive showpets, with long sinewy limbs and flexible spines. Broad ears make them able to hear even the smallest of noises in dead-silence and their fur is like petting a heavenly blanket, while the jewellery they are so fond of brings a sense of comfort, pulsing with faint light when they are truly happy (and also purring). In terms of their attitude these creatures are highly sociable, seeking out company if they can, even if just for entertainment. A creature by itself with nothing else around is a sore sight and may even cause it get sickly as a result. Though despite that, they are far more capable of keeping themselves safe than their orbaru kin, treating much of the Labs' area as only but a playground and while they have no instinct to fight or defend, they certainly have the capability and inclination to flee danger should it impose on them. Biology: There's certainly a lot of frightful creatures that go bump in the night, but rarely are there any that go 'click'. And yet, that is one of the tell-tale signs that one of these half-breeds are up and about close by. There is not all too much concrete about them as much of their potential tends to lie in what manner of magics they end up learning, but a few physiological quirks are the same across all. Whether curious or a trickster, all of these half-breeds have an innate sense of caution and fearfulness. In large part it comes from their more underdark-dwelling parents, though the private nature of the maliis certainly doesn't help. The rest of the reason comes from their build - for their size, they are quite frail compared to some other creatures, thus they are more made for avoiding dangers than confronting them. Able to walk the shadows and use tools in equal measure makes their skillsets more in the line of 'brains' than 'brawn'. In this the owners would do well to study their creatures and help them reach new potentials, before they could truly know how to properly handle them. This is especially true due to their wings, thin and delicate segmented membranes, quote sensitive to air flows and pressures. Something which, along with their clicking vocalizations, aids them in navigating the darkness of the tunnels. Unfortunately this also makes them reflexively recoil from touch even by those they deem trustworthy, which can make handling a creature such as this an art of patience. But, perhaps, given enough time and practise, even these creatures could develop a trust with their owner not unlike how the malii are rumoured to.. and on that day, they might not even flinch. Biology: To preface, the scientists of the Confluxery would like to reassure that, despite appearances, these half-breeds are not, in fact, blind. In fact, the truth is quite the opposite - they might be seeing considerably more in the light wavelengths than most other creatures. Aside the odd appearances of their eyes, the surface of their body is another odd anomaly. It is certainly organic, skin and fur and all such normal to organic creatures, yet the sheen and light glistening off of them seems nearly otherwordly. And the shine of things is likewise what they are attracted to, almost as if the very gleam of their own form makes them covet anything with a glint as theirs. While technically not the brightest of creatures they can be tricky at times, a built-in defense mechanism making them seem inert and unmoving. To new owners, this can be a cause of alarm, as they quite literally appear to be having no physical functions at all, not even breathing. This, however, is thankfully a ruse that the half-breeds prefer to use as defense as well as a playful aspect, for next to finding things which shine, the carefree nature often makes these creatures quite good companions, especially to small children. Once.. you get past the hollow eye thing, at least.. (*- Stats subject to change when parent stats are approved)Biology: It's difficult enough to stop a moving freight train, but what about one that can.. well, fly? Something that is essentially a ton of bricks, scales and muscles, and with an unfriendly disposition to boot? Thankfully, despite their ability to, these creatures prefer to remain grounded unless otherwise necessary and with good reason - their bulk, the very thing to make them formidable and technically supported by their wingspan, also makes them quite ungainly fliers. They aren't all too hot a running on the ground either, but then, when all you seek is peace and quiet there's thankfully no need to even bother with either. Outwardly they are certainly very imposing creatures, with broad bone-filled frills, large muscles and pretty much covered in spikes all over. To tackle or grapple with one is to basically lose a battle to a shredder mixed with a brick wall. And they aren't so easily taunted by more mental things either, but rather tend to project an aura of their own. For anything threatening (or annoying, or simply intruding) far away, they vibrate the horns of their crest until a high-pitched sound builds to a crescendo, released as a bolt of lightning at the target. For anything close a simple stomp will do.. or perhaps they merely spit and drool on them, for the saliva is another danger all on its own.. Often it is used to hunt, if their omnivoric tendencies leave them no other source of sustenance to be found - the creatures need but one bite to infect the prey, then slowly lumber after until the drool does its work in the prey's nervous system, rendering it an easy, docile catch. When all this comes together it is no wonder then that these creatures can be incredibly difficult to tame, at first, being unimpressed by shows of strength and generally only looking forward to the next meal, hardly a care in the world for other things. But, with persistence, a dollop of caution and no small amount of effort, they could be turned into something much, much more towards their owners. Cunning: 4 Beast Average Top Speed: 30 mph, 15 mph (swim) Special Requirements: None Size Chart: 3 Power Levels: 4 Notes: Gains loyalty at twice the normal rate. Stamina: 5 Strength: 5 Resistance: 4 Dexterity: 4 Mentality: 2 Special Abilities: Pack Instincts (Sentient), Swim, Speak Moves: Bite, Howl, Sparkling DustBiology: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again; don't give up too easily, persistence pays off in the end.. this time with arms. If there's one thing to really cause these creatures discomfort, its a set of matted hair which can sour their mood something fierce. To no dangerous extents, but certainly landing in the 'sulky' range. Otherwise, they enjoy the company of people (yes, specificially people), finding more kin among them than their creature counterparts. This is largely due to their rare ability to learn words and phrases.. simpler ones, granted, for their (original) intellect isn't quite as sharp as true sentients, but as far as communication goes simple is all you need at times. Making people sounds tends to cause other creatures to alienate them, as it creates a confusing boundary - how much are they creature, and how much a person? In their mind, this is perfectly fine, for people words tend to fall on deaf ears when it comes to simpler intellects (and are a source of the occasional envy from the higher intellects). As far as physical attributes go, their fur is thick and to a degree well-oiled, waterproof enough to allow them to be quite the apt swimmers. With a large bulk, they are none the less almost awkwardly aware of their surroundings, careful to not injure anything by stepping or bumping into it. The small tusks, largely display in purpose, can sometimes cause them to develop a slight lisp or otherwise add an accent onto their spoken words. Nothing to cause all too much confusion, fortunately. And finally, their extra set of arms missing from the previous half-breed generation can be somewhat deft, though they lack thumbs, meaning they have an easier time holding onto things with both limbs, rather than one at a time. Finally, the vestigial remnants of wings are more rubbery-skin-like in texture than frail insecticidal membranes and tend to shimmer slightly in bright light. With a small whisk of them, the creatures are able to summon sparks from thin air, often to the delight of onlookers. Big, fluffy, gentle and playful, these halfbreeds make an excellent companions for all ages, provided you remember to groom them properly.
