Morgan was super pleased with Nico, it bloomed in their chest like a rose. It was really nice to see him being so sweet and protective. Hounds were just this way, they had been told, but actually seeing something like this was beyond their forethought. It had occurred to them in the past that yes, Nico would protect them if he needed to, but Morgan was still baffled to actually SEE that. Nico was pleased as well, but mostly because he could feel the happiness and pride in Morgan's chest swelling, nearly viscerally, and he really loved to make Morgan happy. That was the biggest thing in the world to that small fluffy hound, he didn't care what happened to him first, only what happened to Morgan. He'd been able to prove that, too, and that made him happier than anything else could have. Morgan gave him a quick pat on his head.

"Alrighty Boyo, I don't think the uh, well this sounds so dumb..." Morgan admitted, pressing their palm into their forehead for a minute, and then glancing down the hole cautiously. "But goodness, I don't think the mansion wants us here right now." Morgan's ankle was sore, even if it wasn't going to bruise due to the protection of the boots, but it was still a reminder that this place was possibly quite dangerous indeed! "So uh, maybe we should go?" Morgan felt a little bad. They had really wanted to be here for a good amount of time this month, to get closer to Nico. That had been the original idea, anyway. Morgan wanted to teach him the rest of his list soon, and this was going to be all they could do for the month if they left now. At least for extracurricular outings...

However, it could not be denied that Morgan was feeling that old anxiety already, the one that told them that something bad was nearby. Morgan wasn't going to have Nico stick around to find out and them have to protect each other all over again. Despite all of the worry, Morgan wasn't going to just run up out of here. They were here to find stuff anyway, and Morgan really wants to find things to study. More things than they already had, and they had found a lot. This month it was mostly just tiny creatures, which were good money if Morgan dumped them on the jackalope and all, but they really wanted to find items. Items were good for trades, after all, and Morgan was just about ready to pick up some more things to study. Botany wasn't all about plants, not really, after all. Morgan needed more supplies for their class.

Nico was looking into Morgan's eyes with a gentle expression in his chocolate brown eyes, and Morgan felt that pang of sorrow for him again. "It's okay boyo, let's go home, okay? I need to get your mouth looked at anyway to make sure you didn't accidentally hurt yourself." At that, Morgan pushed theirself up off of the grass with a wince, feeling that ankle now more than they had. Last month they had been unlucky and hurt their arm, and this month it would seem that Morgan had hurt theirself on their leg. The mansion was a little dangerous this time of year, wasn't it? That was okay though, Morgan had already learned quite a bit about how to heal some of this. Morgan limped towards the gate, with Nico at their heels, and the two of them make their way towards the gate quietly. They pick up anything else on their way out, and then go home.

Morgan felt so odd, going to the mansion with a houluh that was not Nico today. Nico was being primped and pampered for a competition this weekend, and Morgan was going to have to start the training on a new acquisition today anyway. Well, not the training-training, so to speak. They were going to go out and learn about her by going on an adventure before doing the start of the training. Morgan had done some fancy trading to get her, that is, the visibly cream-colored pup Morgan had decided to name Cosette. She was a lovely creature, quite pretty. Morgan was sure that she was a great choice to add to their kennel, but it was time to really test her meddle in a sort of controlled way of course. Morgan had her on a leash and a collar that was carefully fitted to make sure that it wouldn't hurt her at all. [1] - [Start on November, with Cosette]

Morgan figured that the first thing they would need to do was going to have to be to actually get to the mansion. Morgan was at the gate, so on mansion grounds like normal, but they wanted to actually go into the mansion this month. They'd been avoiding it to this point since it kinda felt like some kind of a super dangerous place, and perhaps it wasn't the smartest to bring Cosette here as their first little walk. She was pulling on the leash, spirited as all heck, and Morgan was slowly getting her to stop pulling as much. This was just the way it was with new creatures, but she was definitely more of a spit-fire than Nico. Nico was a little princelet, but Cosette wasn't anything of the sort. More like the backwoods type of wild beauty, dangerous. Belladonna-like perhaps. But thankfully, it was all wrapped up in a tiny little puplet and not a dangerous animal.

Cozette was still quite lovely, though. She wasn't vicious, just clever. She had already tried to figure out how to get out of her collar; it was obvious that she was not used to collars. It was a good thing that Morgan had gotten her at a younger age (even if slightly) than Nico, or else she might have been too much of a wildflower to ever take to a collar. However, she was nicely built for a houluh, already starting to be more careful on her feet than Nico. Nico had been bumbling over his own feet for a long time. Perhaps it was something about being female. Morgan admittedly knew very little about houluh in general, but still felt pretty sure that they would be an expert in them hopefully in no time. Morgan walked to the gate. It looked particularly serene this time of the year. Clinical. Lab-like.

Morgan was not sure at all what made them immediately think it was Lab-like. Something about the perfectly manicured grass in some areas that was actually very abnormal for the mansion (which didn't really seem to have a purveyor that was known about at least? It was not in the public records, or anything else. Morgan had been trying to figure it out for a long time now) but also patchy in some areas... As if the owner was missing. There was a bit of a clinical smell, something like a funky whiff of hospital, perhaps. Morgan curled their nose, drew their labcoat over their body, and then held the leash a little higher. "Well Cozette, we are... Here." Morgan slitted their eyes, and pushed the ornate gate open. It was not rusted like it had been just a few days ago. No, it was too clean. Too smooth. Morgan jerked their hand away from it.

Morgan was much more grossed out by this sterile sort of gate than they had been of the rusty one just before. Morgan was a bit afraid of germs, and tried to be very careful about keeping clean. But there was something wrong about this. Something inconspicuously venomous perhaps. "Let's go, Cozette." Morgan said. Suddenly, the hound would not, absolutely WOULD NOT cross the threshold into the mansion. Morgan frowned, and sort of understood. "I get it, you're scared, right?" Nico never looked like that, not really. However, Morgan needed her to cross the threshold into the Mansion inner grounds. They needed to go find things to study this time of year, Morgan hadn't been here this month before. Morgan had no knowledge about it either; information on the mansion was seriously scarce in all honesty. It was really hard to find anything, so Morgan was trying to write their own guide on it for theirself.

This was going to be a super difficult thing, and Morgan knew it. Morgan even understood it in an abstract way. They were an orderly person beforehand, but the chaos node had changed it. Now they felt split in two all the time, half a whip crack of lightning, and half a cold veneer of frost. It sucked, plain and simple. Morgan tried not to overthink it, but often found theirself feeling that sharp electric freeze fighting like a fault line. Sometimes they stood in the middle without issue, and sometimes it pulled them apart emotionally. Supposedly Chaos and Order were married. Morgan couldn't even imagine why. Humans made up all kinds of weird things and seemed to love duality. Morgan hated it.
Perhaps Cozette was simply being stubborn since she hardly knew Morgan, and perhaps Cozette's orderly mind felt a natural panic on the precipice of the chaos that Morgan had simply adjusted to on the first whiff.

Morgan was not a religious person. Heck, Morgan tried very hard not to even give anything remotely spiritual a second thought. However, they did remember a bit about making the node... That had been a test, and nothing more! However, there was something there, that took a bit of something to make that node that Morgan later swallowed, and they couldn't even imagine what was going on then. They decided to ignore it. BUT Morgan had read many different informative books about the so-called 'pantheon' that a lot of people believed in, and they knew enough to know the mythology about such things. They also knew that there had to be some sort of understanding of what order and chaos were. Entropy was in fact a thing, regardless of gods and men. So it made sense for Houluh to have a natural tendency to the 'same' things, to things happening the same way each time. That was more comfortable even to Morgan.

Morgan could understand it, yes, but Cozette was still gonna have to cross that gate whether she wanted to or not. Nico would follow Morgan to the depths of the Hell Maw, but Cozette was no where near that loyal. She was not having it. She stood with all of her legs locked, and her collar up against her head, nearly pulling her ears up and over her face. Finally, Morgan stopped pulling. "I getcha, youngun, small Cozette, little one." Their voice was trying to be as calming as possible, but the creature was just not having it in general. Morgan walked over to her, rolling up the leash the entire way as they moved over to her. "Here we go, and up!" Morgan said, reaching down and picking up the pale houluh pup. The creature looked nervous, but more aggravated than nervous really. It was an odd thing to note about a houluh.

She didn't like being carried either, but Morgan was pretty decent at this by this point. Morgan held her carefully, and then said in the most soothing way possible- "We're gonna cross the gate now, whether you like it or not Cosette." Morgan said, and then they stepped across. Quietly, the gate was closed. Cosette wriggled, trying to get away halfheartedly, but Morgan had already made her decision for her. Now that the gate was closed, Morgan bent down and let the houluh down on the ground. Immediately she squatted against the ground, obviously not liking this at all. "Such a small, see, we're gonna be fine." Morgan said, cooing at her. Still, it wasn't helping, and Morgan shook their head. They'd make it, Morgan knew. Cozette would have to face this fear, or she'd never get better. It was funny how fine she was before they tried to enter the inner grounds.
