Admittedly, Aster hadn't branched out to as many species as a trainer of good repute probably should have, but in this case he didn't feel as if the blame rested in his hands. Lamadidrons weren't a terribly common sight out here. The one he had with him today was pretty well grown, but apparently had a bit of a chewing problem.
Aster looked at the Lama. It wasn't a small creature, that was for sure. He wondered if this was a case of someone getting one when they were little and cute, and then going on to regret the whole thing when it grew up to be incorrigible and a couch chewer.
Maybe it was just a case of not enough time and too many creatures. He'd suffered that himself before, so he could hardly point fingers if that were the case.
Probably because it was so big, it wasn't at all intimidated by his staring it down. But it wasn't fearful or wantonly aggressive right off the bat either, which Aster could appreciate. After so many years of dealing with drakes, anything that didn't immediately try to bite off his head was a step up. Still, Summer was here, just in case.

This wasn't unusual for the two of them either. Summer had been with him before he had really made his way to the city proper, and she had been particularly worried when he first started out training things. Knowing now how dangerous some of them could be, he hardly blamed her. And while she wasn't a real contender in the huge looming threat department, she'd developed some interesting tricks over the years to deter anything that wanted to get a little too fresh with them.
Aster looked the Lamadidron over, trying to figure out how they should proceed. One of the requests was to get the Lama to stop chewing on things, but it wasn't trying to nip at him now--- and a nipping problem wasn't the same as a chewing problem either. Maybe they weren't in the right setting, but Aster didn't know where he was going to find a couch on short notice, except at home. And there was a reason he kept his bigger creatures outside the house.
"Tail smacking it is then," Aster declared. It was a natural instinct of theirs, if the literature on them was to be believed, and looking at this one's anatomy, he didn't doubt it.

The only question now was how to induce the behavior he wanted. Aster thought for a moment, then came up with an idea.
"Summer," he said conversationally. Summer eyed him from her perch on his arm. He could tell from the look she was giving him that she didn't like the tone of his voice, and suspected his motives. Unfortunately, they had known each other much too long for her to be fooled by things like this.
But then, that long acquaintance also meant that she was inclined, most of the time, to do him favors, even if she thought they were inane or stupid. And it generally meant that he didn't toss out requests that were beyond her means, even if they were beyond her preference.
"You couldn't fly around him, could you? See if you can get him to swat at you?" Almost, Aster said, 'like a fly', but he caught himself at the last moment. He was trying to talk her into it, and insulting her wasn't really the way to go here.
Of course, he was forced to divert his attention elsewhere for a moment. The Lamadidron had gotten distracted in the short time it took for him to ask this.

The owner really wasn't kidding when they mentioned that this Lama was easily distracted. Aster sighed. "Here boy," he said, holding out a treat. That got its attention at least, though Aster wasn't about to let the Lama have it just yet. He wanted it closer to him and paying full attention before he would give it up.
He got his wish, though not really in the fashion he had wanted. The Lama turned to him alright, but then it rushed for him, long neck extended to snap at his hand. Take that back, maybe it really was nippy too.
Here, he and Summer worked together in tandem from years and years of cooperation. Aster snatched his hand back--- he'd always had quick reflexes, and it was probably at least partially why he had lived this long, all things considered. Summer, in the same instant, used her telekinesis to firmly bop the Lama's nose. Not hard enough to sting, but definitely hard enough to feel, and generally, to deter.
Aster didn't want to laugh at the reaction of the Lama to this, but it was hard not to. He'd seen Summer do this before, but the recipients always looked so surprised when it happened.

He didn't blame them for it. As far as they knew, it had come out of nowhere, and even Aster couldn't 'see' it at work. He'd only learned about it later, when he asked Summer what exactly she had done, after the first time she'd done it; and to answer his question, she had done it to him too. Not one of his finer moments, but it was important knowledge, and it wasn't as though she could explain it in words.
"That's enough of that from you," said Aster. The Lama blinked, then shook its head, as though it could still hardly believe what had happened. It looked around for the source of the force, but couldn't find anything like an object or visible barrier.
Seeing him do this, Aster wondered if it was worth trying again with the treat, to see if the Lama would try, in turn, to snap at him again. He had intended to teach it to strike with its tail first, but he wasn't opposed to going with the flow and training it not to bite first, if that was what was convenient. They'd still have to involve furniture eventually, just to be sure, but he could at least establish the principle of it now.
