Daisy really was going wild though. Fiera could hear the tailypo skittering wildly across the bottom of the mine cart. Every so often she’d stop, and let out a hilariously loud meow before continuing on with her sprinting. Fiera couldn’t help but chuckle at the childish antics… until she heard a loud cracking noise come from her cart. Her eyebrows shot up as she ran over to it. “Uh. What’s as that.” She said nervously as she checked the damage. Daisy had run to the side of the cart, her fur puffed out as if electrocuted, staring at the corner of the cart furthest from her. And there was the elemental crystal Fiera had found, now snapped in half. “Oh for gods’ sake…” The humanish said, now realizing her mistake in putting a rambunctious baby in with her things. And here she thought Daisy was going to try and eat it!

The humanish picked up the broken crystal and put the pieces back together, as if a part of her was desperately hoping they would fuse back into a single form. Sure enough though, it didn't work. "Still, it was a pretty big chunk to start with..." She acknowledged, turning one of the shards over in her hand. "...Maybe we can just pretend I found two to start with." She sighed, setting the pieces back in the cart. "Are you pleased with yourself, then?" She said, glancing over at Daisy. If the tailypo could understand her, she didn't respond. Instead the little creature stayed curled up in the corner, staring warily at the broken crystals. Fiera raised an eyebrow. Tailypo were, she had heard, quite magical creatures themselves, well tuned in to these sorts of things. Perhaps something about the crystal had drawn her to it, just as Fiera had become attuned.

And then she tried to touch it, broke it, and released some of that magic. She imagined it must have been quite a shock for the kitten, though she seemed perfectly fine now physically. "Good!" Fiera sniffed, standing back up. "Let that be a lesson to you, then. Don't break my things." She emphasized, waggling her finger at the tailypo. The little yellow animal gave her a dirty look but curled back into herself, keeping away from the remainder of Fiera's finds. The humanish nodded once for emphasis before turning back to the wall. "...Right, then." She mumbled, stroking her chin as if petting a nonexistent beard. "Suppose I should just start anywhere, then." The humanish picked up her pickaxe and faced the wall, looking for any sign of something valuable just under the surface. When nothing made itself apparent, she shrugged and raised the pickaxe up and onto her shoulder.

From there she made the first couple of test swings. The pickaxe dug deep into the rock. It was much softer here than further down in the depths of the mines, Fiera thought. More like compacted sand than volcanic stone. She flicked an ear. Good. Maybe that meant she would be able to find more fossils, fuel the veritable menagerie she had going for her. As if responding to her goodwill, a small stone tumbled from the wall right away. She picked it up and watched how even though it was dark in coloration, it reflected the light beautifully. A good sign. She smiled slightly and put it in the cart by the other stones. Daisy still watched her. The tailypo didn't seem quite so fearful now, but had definitely learned her lesson and was now keeping her distance from Fiera's objects. Instead, she seemed content to use the interior wall of the mine cart as a pillow.

Fiera chuckled at the sight of the little creature falling asleep. Most of the humanish's other tailypo were upset by the sound of her mining. She had brought... probably more kittens down here than she should have, really. She could easily see why the sound of the pickaxe hitting rock her their ears. They were absolutely enormous ears after all, and even Fiera's more proportional ones didn't like it much. And yet, Daisy didn't seem to mind it too much. In fact, she seemed to be dozing off already. Fiera wasn't sure if it was because a creature her age was easily worn out by the slightest activity, or if it was simply because she was that easygoing. She would have to wait and see how her personality developed with time. That being said... even though all of Fiera's tailypo were clearly kittens, they did seem to be much bigger now than when she got them.

She certainly hoped they were at least, based on how much food they ate. They were expensive creatures to feed, that was for sure, but it was worth it to see them thriving as they were. She had high hopes for this species, as new as they were. Another blow against the wall. They weren't the only new species, however- and not the only one that needed to grow. She had thought a few moments ago about the fossil creatures. Her thoughts always seemed to drift back to them when down in the mines, even though she had never brought one down here before, to their place of origin. That made sense in a way, however. The fossil beasts... they weren't native to this world. Not anymore. They were a species entirely their own, brought back from the dead by some strange mechanism, extracted from stones in the shape of their bones.

Or their claws. Teeth. Scales. Whatever. That didn't really matter. What mattered was that they were here, now. Fiera took another chunk off of the wall. In fact, the humanish had just found one of their bones, left to rot on the floor of the entry hall. What a waste that would have been if she didn't find it! What an... interesting thing it could be used for someday. Fiera had three fossil beasts herself now. A couple she had gotten just a few months ago, a mere breath ago by her standards, and one she had received just a day prior. It was fascinating to her how the little blue beast that was delivered practically to her doorstep was synthesized from a single dark brown scute and some malformed bones that were no doubt millions of years old. And yet they had determined the species from it and revived it perfectly...

Or so they said. Fiera supposed that they could always be lying. Telling her that it was an exact replica, they swore! But really, how would anyone know if they weren't accurate? A small smile crept across her face. It reminded her a bit of the "paintings from genuine old masters" that she had made several years back. Hundreds of years old, she swore. Or, maybe the trees that made up the canvas were. Perhaps. That was part of the reason why she liked the little creatures, if she was being honest. Yes, they might not be accurate replicas... but who would ever know? It hardly made them less real, less present. If Fiera's little Snapdragon nipped her on the leg (for the third time that day), the fact that she wasn't anatomically accurate hardly got rid of the red welt it left (that was only just now healing up.)

Or Seredipity when he splashed her, or even new little Sasha who hid behind Fiera's legs at any opportunity. The old was in the past and unearthed, and in the process something completely new was created. Fiera could appreciate that. She could also appreciate the decent hole she had made in the wall here, she thought as she wiped the sweat from her brow. What was once a smooth wall was now a decent divot, ushered along by the softness of the rock that easily yielded under her blows. Lost in thought, Fiera hadn't been checking too hard for any gems or ores, though she probably should have. She cringed at the thought of having accidentally missed, or worse, broken something valuable just by thinking too hard for too long. Of course, Daisy would probably find it amusingly ironic Fiera thought with a frown, glancing back at the broken elemental crystal.

With that in mind, she bent down to start looking through the rubble, trying to identify what she did and didn't need. Upon a closer look, she realized that many of these rocks were... multicolored. Iridescent. She plucked a dull green and dark purple stone out from the mess. It had that same gradient of color, albeit a little plain. It was still recognizeable as a gemstone however, so Fiera knew that she could still get a pretty penny for it if she decided to sell it. Every little bit counted, especially now that Fiera had been going on... a bit of a spending spree, recently. She nodded satisfactorily, and put it in the mine cart. Daisy sniffed it briefly before backing back up to her corner, having learned her lesson with these weird rocks. If one shiny rock could zap you, then any of them could. It was better to just nap.

As it turned out though, that stone wasn't the only one. And it was HARDLY the prettiest. Fiera had to work at it a bit though. She set aside her pick axe (best for broad blows anyway) and picked up her hammer and chisel, carefully tapping away at the stone where she saw shards of potential peeking through the brown rock. The sandstone chipped away effortlessly, falling to the ground with hardly any noise as it turned to dust. This really was some of the softest stone Fiera had ever dug through, and it was a relief for her aching shoulders. Soon she had dug out not one, but two opalescent gem stones from the larger chunks of rock that had fallen to the ground. She set them next to each other to compare, examining their shape, size, and color. To an untrained eye, they looked pretty similar to one another.

Fiera's eye was hardly trained, mind you, but she had done this enough times to notice the differences between them. One was smoother, shinier. Easier to wear down, or perhaps had just been sitting in the river that had formed this sandstone years ago for longer. Its colors were slightly duller too, more blended together. She could check the gem guide she had to find out for sure, but part of her just liked having that air of mystery. That feeling that it could be something truly special and not something dull and unimportant. The other gem was, admittedly, a little prettier however. It was a somewhat clear stone on its own, if one could see it without any light at all shining on it. That was impossible however, and when even the slightest light from lantern or flashlight refracted off of it, it revealed the stone's true nature for all to see.

A bright rainbow of light refracted off of it, glimmering from its fractures in all of the colors Fiera had ever seen- and then some. She was sure this one had to be valuable. If not, she would certainly fight for it. Who wouldn't want a gem this pretty? She chuckled slightly as she put it in the mine cart with the others, safe and sound. She cast one last glance back at the rubble and stones- and in doing so, nearly missed the most valuable item of this latest set of finds entirely. "Oh, hello..." She said, reaching toward a rock that was still leaning up against the wall. She rotated it a bit with her hands. Sure enough, she saw a difference in shade and texture that indicated the shape of a fossil buried within it, just waiting to be found. She purred slightly- another perfect find for her.
