"And where do you think YOU'RE going, hm?" She said, raising an eyebrow. Misery looked back at her, sheepish at having been caught. If a snake could sweat, he would be. "Yeah that's right, you're caught." She said, walking back over to the mine cart and putting a hand on it to secure it in place. He could only just barely move it to start with, Fiera holding it down made it impossible. "Of course..." Fiera glanced back over her shoulder. "I suppose its a bit difficult to relax with all that racket. If you're more comfortable over here, that's fine... but don't think I'm going to let you go TOO far. She said. With that out of the way, she started pulling the mine cart to a nearby boulder, obligating Misery to follow along with it, as much as he didn't want to. Then she picked up a rock.

She wedged it against the wheel, jamming it right under the outer ring. That mine cart wasn't going anywhere, unless you had thumbs to unwedge it again. Still, it made a nice, well secluded area against the wall. There was easily enough room for Misery to curl up behind it. That would leave him at least somewhat insulated against the clanging noises of her mining. "Well, go on then!" Fiera said, turning to her salaves as she gestured at the gap. He looked between her and the gap carefully, before slithering forward. She tried not to shudder at the sound of scales and spindly, insect-like legs clattering against the ground as he wound his way between her and the wall. After only a few moments Misery was safe and sound in the gap, curled up in a big heap with his head only just barely sticking out over the top of his coils.

With Misery accounted for again, Fiera turned back to her work. The mine cart could stay there pretty much indefinitely while she was working on this wall. It was only a few steps away, and Fiera doubted that she was going to find anything so heavy that she couldn't carry it over to the cart. (And if she did, that would leave the question of how she was planning on pulling the cart elsewhere.) And with Misery cheered up, or at least introduced to more tolerable conditions, she could work without having to glance over her shoulder every two seconds to make sure he was still there. So she began mining anew with fresh vigor, slamming away at the wall. Chunks flew off and clattered to the ground at her feet, with the occasional fleck of stone brushing against her cheek as it flew by. She was glad she didn't bother with TOO much makeup today.

Misery on the other hand wasn't TOO miserable now. Between the rocks stacked around the mine cart and the cart itself, he had a decent buffer between him and the source of the clattering impact noises. It wasn't too comfortable. The sounds were still very loud, and the mines had no soft materials to muffle them. Every last clatter and clang echoed off of the walls and directly into his ear... holes. And yet, with the cart in the way it wasn't nearly as bad as before, and if he nestled his head underneath it it was even better. Of course, he would still much prefer to leave the mines entirely, but he could deal with baby steps in the right direction. He just hoped that the humanish wouldn't take him even deeper after she was done here... though knowing his luck, she probably would. He'd just have to cross that bridge when they came to it.

Fiera on the other hand WAS getting ready to move on. The more she mined, the more discouraged she got. She had carved out a large, wide circle from the wall ahead of her, almost taller than her and reaching down to the ground. And yet even now, all she saw was those faint glimmers that sometimes indicated the presence of gems... but she hadn't actually FOUND any yet. She stopped briefly to rub some sweat from her forehead. "Geez." The humanish muttered to herself. "I thought this was supposed to be one of the RICH tunnels! Was everyone else just mining down here for fun?" She mused to herself. Surely there had to be SOMETHING in these walls that hadn't yet been claimed, right? She considered moving forward... but perhaps it was just a sunk cost fallacy that she was falling into here, and she would be better off moving on.

But then, as she tore out yet another chunk of useless ore, Fiera... felt something. Normally she would have ignored it- a mix of bad air and strange breezes were not uncommon in the mines, and it was just something you had to get used to if you were going to work down here. And yet it was there, a strange whistling past her ears, audible and yet not. Could it be... a magic crystal? They weren't entirely uncommon down here, and Fiera's luck had only been getting better and better in finding them. Even Misery seemed to have his interest piqued. It was difficult for Fiera to tell if he was reacting to the magic, or to HER reaction to the magic, but still the salaves shifted slightly in his little corner, and soon she saw a purple eye peek out from behind the mine cart, a tongue flicking in and out.

It was as if he was waiting to see how she would react... or maybe he was just as curious about the strange sensation as she was. Some creatures were more magically attuned than others, and while she wasn't sure if void salaves were in that "more" category, she wouldn't be surprised. After a moment, Fiera recollected herself and her resolve. "Okay... just an elemental crystal, not a big deal." She said to herself with a huff, shrugging her shoulders. She couldn't even see the damn thing yet- no need to get all excited about it. For all she knew it could be several feet in and in a position that would bring the cave down on her head. She would just have to keep working at it and see what she found. As she clattered away at the stone however, she could only feel that distant thrumming sensation getting stronger and stronger.

It was nothing like the sensation you got from the remnant crystals at the eccentric's mansion, which were a little bit more common than these. With those it was just a raw throbbing sensation, like an open wound in the world. You wanted to touch the crystals just to get them to shut up and stop- metaphorically- shouting in your ear. There were no elements in those ones, just raw magic. They were... "hollow", as she had heard people call them. Whatever that meant, it was obvious what it meant functionally. Elemental crystals had a much different sensation to them. The thrumming was there of course, it was there for all of them, but each element had a different "sensation" that came along with it depending on what element they were. Based on that vague impression she got of fresh air and whispering breezes, Fiera wouldn't be surprised if these were wind crystals.

She was always surprised at how common wind crystals were down here. Wouldn’t you better expect to find them in a field? Or even better, in the canyon of entertainment where the draconics swooped and flew? Why HERE? She sighed and shrugged- it wasn’t for her to know, and any explanation she could come up with would be pure conjecture anyway. Wind crystals weren’t the only ones she had found down here though. There were always fire crystals as well, giving the sensation of heat at the back of your neck even in the wettest, coldest, dankest cavern. When she held one close to her ear, she could swear she heard crackling in it, though the crystals were solid enough. There were water crystals too, which always felt moist to the touch even when left out in the sun for hours, and their thrumming felt less like the hum of bees and more like an impression of distantly crashing waves.

Those were always nice ones to find- they were rather calming. Earth crystals were somewhat difficult to distinguish, considering that technically all crystals came from the earth, but their glow and hum always made them stand out. They were some of the quietest though, giving an impression of slowly grinding seismic activity rather than a frenetic vibration. If she missed a couple of those however, that’s as fine with her- she was never much interested in having powers of the earth at her disposal anyway. Fiera would take laser beams over rock… beams… any day. Those were the elemental crystals she was most familiar with, though there were others. Pure crystals, order crystals, chaos crystals… Fiera had heard of these before, but she had only ever found one or two of them that matched their descriptions before. She wasn’t really sure she’d know what she was looking at if she found one.

Walking along, everything seems rather normal. That is, until the gravel beneath your feet starts to slip, sending you and your pet tumbling into a deep pit. The fall stings quite a bit, but that isn’t the biggest problem you face. The pit is rather deep, making the trip back up difficult at best.

Regardless, she didn't even really know what sort of magic could be DONE with crystals like that. They were quite enigmatic and considering that Fiera had never had much interest in magic, not important. Wind crystals were far more her speed. She could almost see them now- a yellow glimmer in the stone. An unwitting grin split Fiera's face as she hammered at the stone even harder. She was so close! She could practically taste them now... not that she would ever put an elemental crystal in her mouth. She didn't even notice the tiny cracks spreading under her feet as she worked, nor did she heard Misery's warning rattle as he approached, as if trying to get her attention. "Oh, nice of you to join me, Misery." She said casually as her fingers brushed against the crystals. She was sure that she could just give them a tug and they'd fall right out.

They sure did, but something else fell as well- her. She didn't notice the ground crumbling under feet, nor did she notice that the noises that Misery was making were supposed to be rattles of alarm. Even though she said she wouldn't be, the elemental crystals distracted her, and now she and her salaves were left tumbling down towards... well, she didn't know. She screeched with alarm, scrabbling at the floor as she fell but alas, her reflexes weren't as good as they were in her youth and she just didn't have the speed needed to latch onto the ground. "Oh, fu-" She managed to get out as the mine cart began to tilt too. She snatched her hands away just as the cart creaked and tilted onto the ground, slamming down just as she pulled out her fingers, keeping them from getting crushed. Even if it was empty, it would still hurt.

And, you know, probably break something. But that meant that she was no longer holding onto anything, which meant that she had no choice but to fall and hope she didn't break anything harder. She saw Misery slipping off the side as well, though he at least had the benefit of flaring out his gliding membranes to make his fall to the bottom a brief parachute away. Granted, he wasn't very GOOD at using them yet, so he couldn't really direct his fall or manipulate it in any way, but at least Fiera didn't have to worry about him getting hurt. Her, on the other hand... she did her best to flip herself around, attempting to tap into some sort of feline instincts to land on her feet no matter how unlikely that was. It didn't really work. She managed to get herself halfway around before hitting the ground, landing hard on her elbow.
