She yowled in pain as the rest of her followed, tumbling down the slope that grew less and less steep as she slid down it. That... was probably broken. The humanish didn't have time to dwell on it though, as she suddenly remembered that she wasn't the only thing falling down that cliff. She kept her momentum going, rolling even further down the hill and trying to pull off to the side a bit, shuffling away from the hole that had led down here. She managed to do so just in time too, as the mine cart crashed down where she had been rolling around in agony just a moment ago. She cringed as it made a loud cracking noise before flipping end over end, hitting the far wall at the other side. "Oh, there's no WAY that didn't break something." She muttered under her breath, her ears pressed against her head.

The pain in her elbow was quickly fading. She suspected it was probably the adrenaline kicking in. When she moved it though, another lancing pain shot straight up her arm and into her brain. "Oh ffffuck!" She hissed, and kept it clamped against her side. Yeah, that was DEFINITELY broken. She tried to stand up and felt another pain in her hip, but thankfully not as bad. She could walk, with a bit of a limp. "And of course this tunnel's emptied out today- or else someone would have heard that." She sighed and looked back at where she fell. "...Guess I'll be getting back up myself." She was about to look away when she heard a clinking noise. Her ears flicked up as she glanced back... to see the two elemental crystals fall into the pile of rubble that now sat at the bottom of the pit, as if they had just casually decided to follow her.

"Oh, WOW. Fuck you." She hissed, marching over to grab them. Of course she was- they were the only thing making this trip not a COMPLETE waste. Speaking of... Misery was probably traumatized for LIFE now. She glanced around- where was he anyway? "Misery?" She said hesitantly. "...Please don't be dead and buried under a pile of rocks." She glanced around, carefully pushing through the piles. She almost jumped- almost because her hip wasn't really letting her do that right now- as she heard a rattling noise to her right. She glanced behind a large boulder and sure enough, there he was. Misery had shoved himself in as small a spot as possible, clearly not wanting anything to do with this crazy bullshit she had dragged him into. "You know what? That's fair." Fiera said, admitting it in full before giving him a brief pat on the head. He only hissed at her louder.

Misery might be miserable, but Fiera was doing pretty badly too. There were a few valuables other than the elemental crystals in the pile (which she quickly shoved in her pocket before they got lost), but how would she ever get them back up again? Almost as if on cue, she remembered her mine cart. “Oh, geez.” She muttered under her breath as she hobbled over to inspect the damage. Sure enough, the wood paneling g was shattered in one spot, and while the structure was overall in one piece, one of the wheels was bent out at an angle such that she was pretty sure it wouldn’t touch the ground anymore if she tried to roll it. She crouched down, wincing the whole time and placed her hands under it, at least trying to push it back upright. When her elbow protested, she opted to try just one arm instead, bracing herself against the wall.

It really, REALLY didn’t want to budge, but to be fair Fiera couldn’t afford to put too much effort into it. Eventually by leaning her full weight against it, the humanish finally got the mine cart to tilt over and land properly on its wheels… or what was left of them. She cringed as she looked at the damage. She wasn’t exactly trusting this thing to take her goods out of here now- it would probably be dropping them out of the various holes in it the whole was back. She would have to put anything she found in her backpack which was, thankfully, still whole. Even Misery came out from his hiding place now, curiously investigating the mine cart that he had gotten so comfy around. “Sorry dude, I don’t think you can sit on top of it now.” She sighed. Thankfully, he didn’t try.

Instead he seemed to realize there was nothing left for him there and began to “pace” the periphery of the room, insofar as a serpent could pace. Fiera hadn’t paid much attention to the pit before, but she certainly was now. It wasn’t a particularly large room, only about ten feet from wall to wall. The floor and walls weren’t sharp either, to her unending relief. If stalactites or stalagmites had formed, she and Misery may well have ended their trip today being loaded into matching coffins. It would have been a rather stupid way for her to die. As it stood, the texture of the room meant that she would (hopefully) be leaving it with only a broken arm and busted hip. It looked like this room may have once been a lava tube of some sort, formed as a bubble of air when the rock here was still liquid.

Over time it must have solidified into a solid tube of stale air, which had rushed out all at once the moment that Fiera breached it. That resulted in the rest of the ceiling collapsing, and the rest played out as expected. So now she was stuck ten feet down in a hole in the ground. Sure there were plenty of crystals down here with her (lava tubes were quite good for that), but that didn’t really help her if there was no way back up. It would be especially difficult considering that her elbow was busted. There was no way she would be able to scale that wall on her own. Misery probably could easily enough, but what were the chances he could remember the way out? He was better off sticking by her side, for better or for worse. She just had to come up with a plan.

Oh no! The rocks shift and fall on one of your tools, breaking it! Looks like you’ll have to get it fixed before using it again. At least it was the tool, and not you or your pet!

She paced around, thinking as hard as she could. Perhaps she could mine out some chunks of rock? That way she could stack them and create a "staircase" of sorts leading back up. Except... there was no way she'd be able to maneuver her pickaxe well enough to create chunks that size with her elbow bashed up like that, and moving the tallest ones into place would likely be impossible for her even IF she was in good condition. She'd need something like a thundergug to pull it... and even though he wasn't that size, she was pretty sure Misery wouldn't want to help even if he was. It looked to her like he was thinking just as hard however, slithering around the periphery and testing the walls gingerly, seeing if he could climb up them and get some grip with the thin, spidery legs that connected his flight membranes.

It looked like the walls of the lava tube were a little too slick for him though, as he flicked his tongue irritably and retreated back down after each attempt. "Yeah, I'm having the same problem, bud." She said sympathetically, glancing around some more to figure out her options. Perhaps if she pushed the mine cart under the hole in the ceiling she could manage to boost herself up enough to crawl out and go for help... but the mines were pretty empty today, and she would have to hope that they would be sympathetic enough to her plight that they'd be willing to give her a hand... and that they'd have the equipment necessary to help winch her mine cart up. Otherwise, she'd be stuck trying to do it on her own later when she was feeling better, and that was with the hope that nothing would disturb it while she was away.

People would take anything that wasn't nailed down down here, ESPECIALLY damaged or broken items that appeared abandoned, as hers no doubt would. Plus, while most creatures above ground wouldn't eat straight up wood, the tunnel worms down here were ravenous. She wouldn't be surprised if they'd at least take a few good bites out of it before leaving, which would leave her with a cart that wasn't even worth repairing. If she wanted to salvage it, she would have to get it fixed today. The humanish sighed and set her pack down, digging through it to try and find anything that could help... only to find her flashlight broken in the fall as well. "Oh, WONDERFUL." She hissed to herself, turning it over in her hand. The glass on the front was cracked, and the housing of the bulb had slipped and tilted to one side- perhaps some of the wires inside were now broken.

She was quite glad for the lamp on her hard hat and the crystal torch attached to her mine cart now (which had, thankfully, survived the fall). She was now down another source of light. "Okay, I've got other things to worry about." She grumbled, shoving it back in her backpack. Then she pulled out a short length of rope. If she was very lucky, she'd be able to hook it to something at the top of the pit and... climb back up with one arm, somehow. It would be difficult, but not impossible, and she was sure that she could help Misery get out from there. Just as she was about to call that a plan however, she heard the distinctive grind of stone and clattering of pebbles. Before she could even finish processing the noise, she darted back toward the far end of the pit, huddling up against Misery.

The last thing she wanted was to be crushed to death by yet another rock slide, so she kept her distance from the entrance, and just in time at that. Apparently the position of the tube wasn't too stable, and another massive chunk of the ceiling crashed down where she had been just a moment before. If her adrenaline was wearing off before, the sudden rush of rocks made sure that it would stay going until at LEAST the end of the day. And yet... it left a perfect slope, leading right up to the lip of the pit. It was even enough such that Fiera could drag her cart back up it, as injured as it was. She glanced at Misery before they both scrambled toward it. Neither of them were going to risk wasting any more time in this deathtrap, and soon fresh air was against their faces once more.

The mines weren't exactly Donner's favorite place to be. It wasn't that he was claustrophobic- he wasn't afraid of ANYTHING, as far as Fiera knew- but he WAS very reactive to stimuli, especially foreign ones, and the mines weren't exactly quiet. And he wasn't exactly nonaggressive. All sorts of strange smells and noises drifted down the halls, and as a result Fiera decided not to leave him down here for too long. She wanted to make this a quick trip. Something to give him a bit of exercise and maybe find her a few neat trinkets, but nothing labor intensive. She had plans to enter him in the winter solstice contest soon, and she wanted him to be as relaxed and ready for it as possible, hence why she kept dragging him around to places like this. The more "weird stimuli" she could get him used to, the better... for everyone involved. Fiera 1 Donner 41.1/20.6 1
