Fanged decided that was a good idea as well and she moved to join him. The room they were in was considerably duller now that the ghost had vacated it. She opened the door and stepped through quickly, not wanting to lose track of the ghost. Voxel bounded after her, his determination just as strong as hers.
“Hopefully it hasn’t gotten too far. I wonder if it liked the doll or not. Either way, I’ve brought it with. Even if I hate it, it can certainly be used as a ghost hunting tool.”
As much as she detested holding the doll, the ghost seemed fond enough of it. She didn’t know if the dark energy coming from it was paranormal, or if it was simply her disdain for dolls showing. Voxel flashed a distasteful glare at the doll, assuring her that she was not alone in her dislike for the object.

The next room was dark, as though the mansion had learned that she was seeking dark places for ghost hunting. Voxel wandered a bit away from her, scouting ahead for any signs of the ghost. Fanged felt adrenaline course through her veins, eager to be a part of an adventure once again.
“Okay Voxel, keep an eye out for weird shadows or objects that emit a strange energy.”
Just as soon as the words were out of her mouth, she came across a strange scene. There were two pocketpets clustered around another creepy doll. She loathed to pick it up, but it might lead her to the ghost. She had no other choice but to take it. Voxel regarded the doll with suspicion, not pleased that she had obtained another one.
“At least there’s some pocketpets here that can fetch us some nice cash,” she muttered.
She scooped them up quickly and put them away.

Now holding two dolls, Fanged couldn’t help but muse over the fact that she hadn’t ever held this many dolls, not even as a child. She was more inclined to play with animal shaped toys, on the rare occasion that she was even given a toy to play with. Her family had grown up poor and there hadn’t been enough money for luxuries like toys.
“Maybe I just didn’t develop that sort attachment that one has for their childhood toys. I never really experienced nostalgia or anything like that,” she spoke aloud.
Voxel gazed at her as she spoke, listening carefully to her words. Sometimes, it felt like he truly understood her, but she was aware that wasn’t possible. They had no proper way to communicate, even if he could learn to understand a word here and there. She’d heard there were items that could make a pet more intelligent, but she didn’t know if they worked on ethereal pets.

She didn’t have enough credits at the moment to afford something like that anyway. It was best not to dwell on it right now. She liked Voxel the way he was, there was no need to change him.
“I hope you can learn to tolerate these dolls more than I can. It looks like I’ll be carrying them around for a while yet,” she grumbled.
She wished she could hand them off to Voxel, but his lack of a corporeal form made that difficult. She would be stuck carrying these wretched things for a while yet. She wished they were cute Estharne plushies or even something modeled after a more mundane creature. Since they took the form of humans, they entered a strange uncanny valley territory that she didn’t like one bit.
“Hopefully I won’t be stuck with you for too much longer. These dolls better draw you out ghost!” she called out.

As she called out to the ghost, she was immediately attuned to a strange presence within the room. The ghost had definitely heard her, and it was making itself known. Voxel perked up, his gaze focused on a shape that was just out of Fanged’s view.
“Do you see something there? If it’s the ghost, make sure you keep calm as you approach,” she advised.
Voxel shook himself, as though brushing off her concerns. Fanged rolled her eyes, though inwardly appreciating Voxel’s assuredness. Voxel crept forward, his body dropped into a hunting crouch. He seemed to be stalking something, but Fanged couldn’t see what it was. When he got close enough to what had captured his attention, he pounced forward. His leap was delicate and Fanged hoped that it was effective at capturing ghosts. However, Voxel returned to her with nothing to show for his impressive display.
“At least it looked cool,” she told him.

The ghostly presence was elusive, but Fanged didn’t let that discourage her. Voxel was an effective hunting partner and even if they didn’t manage to capture the ghost, they will have still spent some quality time together.
“I wonder what’s drawn this creature here. The tips suggested that I was hunting the ghost of an abandoned creature. And it very well could be an abandoned ethereal pet. Of course, it could also simply be an ethereal pet that’s escaped from its owner. There’s no need to attribute malice to this case when there hasn’t been proof of it.”
Bouncing ideas off of her pets always helped her to organize her thoughts. It had the added bonus of making her look less crazy as she spoke aloud. She felt certain that the presence had left this room and moved on to the next.
“I suppose we ought to follow it. Though it might be easier to chase outside.”

When Fanged and Voxel entered the next room, her attention was immediately drawn to another cluster of objects that was hers for the taking. She scooped them up quickly, her attention lingering on a strange ring that was placed within the pile. Voxel watched her with interest as she put away all the objects. She was till holding the dolls, which she was gradually growing used to. They didn’t seem nearly so creepy after so much exposure to them. She would never truly like the dolls, but she could tolerate them. Especially if they could be used as tools for ghost hunting.
“I suppose that would be reliant on spirits as having an actual existence though. I can confirm the existence of ethereal creatures, but not ones that are spirits. I wonder how they could actually be confirmable? With magic, the possibilities are endless, but how does that conflict with science?”

Voxel listened to her as she spoke, but he had no opinion of his own to offer. She supposed she shouldn’t expect much from a non-sentient creature. It simply couldn’t be helped. Carrying all of her objects in her backpack now, she went to investigate the room.
“I’m not feeling any haunting energy, but I’m not an expert in those matters. I wonder if they have tools that you can use to hunt ghosts? I think I’ve heard of some, but I don’t think any of them have been proven to work,” she muttered.
While she contemplated the logistics of ghost hunting, Voxel trotted across the room, eagerly determined to find the ghost. When he found no sign of it, he retreated to Fanged’s side and waited patiently for her next move. Fanged decided she would take a moment and think of their next strategy. Chasing a ghost around without a plan would be poor decision making.

She set the dolls up on the ground as markers. She identified one as a representation of her and the other as a representation of the ghost. She then used the dolls to mime out a path of attack.
“We need to cut the ghost off if we want to confront it,” Fanged said.
Voxel stood up, sensing that Fanged was ready to move on. He trotted eagerly to the door, glancing back at her expectantly. The woman laughed and followed him. It appeared Voxel was growing impatient in their hunt for the ghost.
“Eager to make a new friend are you?” she asked him.
He shook himself and waited for her to open the door. Once it was open, he dashed through, not even stopping to check that she was following him. Fanged had to jog through the door in order to keep up with him. Voxel soon stopped in the center of the room.

His attention was focused above them, which Fanged took to be a sign that he had found a clue regarding the ghost. Fanged squinted, trying to see if she could figure out what he was staring at. She could see a strange light floating up in the distance, but it wasn’t indicative of much. The floating light orb was purple in colour and other than that, it was rather unremarkable.
“Still kind of pretty though,” she remarked.
Voxel had his attention focused on the orb. Then with a quick shimmer of light, the orb disappeared completely into the darkness. Once the orb was gone, the temperature within the room dropped dramatically.
“Was the orb emitting actual body heat? That would certainly be interesting. That would be indication that the ghost we are chasing is in fact, a living creature.”
The prospect was exciting to her, but it also implied a certain degree of danger.

After all, a wild creature had the ability to fight and if she antagonized it, the creature could always attack them. Their main goal was to calm the creature down and find out how it got lost in the mansion. Then if there was an owner, they would need to return the pet to them. If there wasn’t an owner, than that would be a bridge they would cross when they got there.
“Alright Voxel, where do you think the ghost headed to now?”
Voxel glanced around the room, trying to figure out where the strange orb had disappeared to. He let out a long howl, as though calling out to it. Fanged listened as the howl echoed through the room. The echo was rather loud, implying that there was more to this room than what it seemed. Was there some way to climb up? That seemed like a good lead to investigate.

As you look around yourself you see a pretty glass rose: But when you leave the room to continue your search.... Upon entering the next room, you suddenly feel as if you are in love with the first thing you see. It is a powerful sort of obsession that grabs your entire attention for a small amount of time. However, it takes a long time for you to come to your senses enough to continue exploring. What a horrible, wretched thing that the mansion has somehow inflicted upon you! At least it took mercy on your pet, if not your dignity. [Your next 5 posts yield no results.]

Fanged scanned the room, searching for anything that she could climb on. She felt a strange energy pulling her in the direction of a bookshelf. That would have to do. She’d need to test that it would be able to hold her weight and she’d also need to ensure that Voxel would be able to climb up it. She gripped the end of a shelf, pushing down on it with her weight. Thankfully, it held underneath the weight she pressed on it with. It appeared sturdy enough to climb on for sure.
“Alright Voxel, this might be a little awkward, but I’ll need you to climb up as well. So, I’ll need to make a ramp or something for you to walk up. I don’t think your exactly made for climbing.” Fanged began to brainstorm ideas. “I could remove a shelf from another bookcase and use that to build a ramp.”
