With a final click, the last piece stuck into place. Fanged let out a sound of triumph as the table began to make a grinding noise. Gears clicked and whirred as they began to lower the table into a freshly revealed indent in the ground. Clover watched with intrigue as a ramp opened up in the newly revealed hole in the ground. Well, it would certainly be an extravagant way to leave this room. Before they left, Fanged retrieved the candle and held it out in front of her.
"Let's go!" she called back to Clover.
Clover followed, curious as to what lay beyond the strange doorway. The room they entered was large and circular. Floral wallpaper adorned the wall and the floorboards were made of a creaky, warped wood. Fanged took a step forward, wincing when the floor creaked underfoot. Clover did not have such trepidation and she moved with less care.

When the floor lurched underfoot, Fanged hesitated as adrenaline coursed through her body.
"Do you think this is safe?" she asked.
Clover turned to face Fanged, tilting her head slightly. Incapable of speech, she was unable to offer a proper reply. Fanged frowned and stepped cautiously toward the door. The door in front of them was large and wooden. It had a large padlock on it, which was rather unconventional for a door. It was clear that they wouldn’t be leaving this room anytime soon. The Gallor trotted forward, her head raised as she noticed a small, potted tree growing in the center of the room. It was an evergreen which looked rather out of place inside.
“I wonder if we’re meant to do something with it?” Fanged remarked. Clover gave the tree a closer look. It was a strange little thing, but it seemed harmless enough. It didn’t look tasty though.

Clover moved closer and knocked the tree over.
“I don’t think that’s very helpful,” Fanged decided.
Clover stared blankly back at her, clearly disagreeing with that assumption. The Gallor looked at the tree curiously, but she didn’t bother to pick it up. Though not that would have been easy for her considering she had hooves instead of opposable thumbs. Fanged rolled her eyes and picked up the tree instead, fixing it back into place. When Fanged had positioned it correctly, a large clunking noise sounded in the room and the padlock fell free from the door, suddenly unlocked. Not quite sure what she had accomplished, the two companions exited the room, closing the door behind them.
As they moved into a hallway, they followed it until they found themselves in a large chamber. A pair of massive doors stood in the middle of the room. Concrete walls encased them, making the room rather dreary.

The Gallor tilted her head as she looked around.
“This is a good spot to hide something of note, I think,” Fanged remarked.
Clover blinked in presumed agreement.
"If we can get through those doors, I'm sure that we'll find what we're looking for."
Getting through the doors was certainly easier said than done. There was no obvious puzzle within this room. Instead, the area surrounding them was lined with what appeared to be podiums. Fanged approached them and tapped on their wooden surfaces. She felt intrigued when she realized the one nearest to her was hollow. She needed to figure out how to pry it open.
Clover joined Fanged, watching intently as the woman tried to figure out how to open the podium. She was confident that they would find what they were looking for soon enough.
She then heard a noise coming from the other side of the room.

Suddenly, the podiums seemed a lot less interesting. Fanged crossed the length of the room, trying to figure out where the noise had come from. Clover followed her, though she kept a respectable distance from the area the noise had been. Fanged was close enough now to see what was causing the noise.
A small metal cage sat in the corner of the room. A small dog-like creature was trapped inside, barking loudly.
"What's going on here?" she asked. “I don’t think I’ve seen a creature like this before. Is it even real?”
Clover was immediately on edge, her body adopting a defensive stance. She didn’t like this noisy little creature, not one bit!
"Wait, is that just a normal dog?" Fanged asked, surprised.
Clover grimaced, her eyes darting between the strange animal and the door. She didn't want to be anywhere near this thing. Regular dog or not, it still bothered her.

When Fanged went to open the cage, it disappeared in a burst of sparks.
"Did you do that?" she asked.
Clover shook her mane out, though she looked properly confused.
"No. it wasn’t you," Fanged remarked. "It just...disappeared."
She frowned, unsure what to make of the situation. She certainly hoped the dog hadn’t been real. Otherwise, it was most certainly dead. She turned to Clover who was staring at one of the doors in the middle of the room. Fanged supposed that she ought to try and figure out how to open them. She began to inspect the podiums again, hoping that she would be able to solve the puzzle without the help of Clover. The Gallor didn’t appear to be in any condition to be of assistance. Clover took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. The dog had spooked her, but she appeared to be calming down now.

After a bit of finagling, Fanged managed to pop open the wooden casing of the podium. The wood swung outwards, allowing her to access the hollow inside without difficulty. She was able to retrieve the key, which was a simple piece of carved bone.
"Now, let's see if we can get through those doors," she said.
She unlocked the door and then stepped through, making sure to keep the candle with them as she stepped through. The key had been a bit ominous, but Fanged was used to that sort of thing at this point. Clover followed close behind, eager to leave the strange room behind them. The next room appeared to be a library. Bookshelves lined each wall and the wooden shelves stretched straight up to the ceiling. The door closed behind them, locking them in with the books.
“Well I guess we might as well get some reading done,” Fanged remarked.

Clover was uninterested in spending time in a room filled with books. She preferred to spend her time outdoors or at the very least in a room filled with plants. Fanged had a fondness for libraries. She loved the smell of books and the quiet atmosphere. They were a safe place for her. She wasn't quite ready to leave.
"Don't worry, Clover. We'll be fine. Let’s take a break and hang out in here for a while," she reassured her companion.
She pulled out a book from the shelf, opening it to read. The cover was bound with leather, a regular choice for many antique books. Clover huffed at the prospect of being trapped in this room, but she soon relented and began to explore the room. The bookshelves had the unfortunate feature of making a room appear smaller than it actually was. The Gallor was finding herself feeling a bit claustrophobic.

Fanged felt a little melancholic being in a library, she couldn’t remember when she had last taken the time to visit one. Clover disappeared behind a bookshelf and tried to push it over. To her disappointment, it appeared to be bolted to the ground.
“I suppose we can’t do anything about that,” Fanged shook her head as she commented.
Fanged frowned and looked around the room. There were several books that seemed to be of interest to her. She didn’t know if they had a specific purpose, but she wanted to read them all. She scanned a few pages of the book in her hand, but she couldn’t understand the language. She set it aside and picked up another one. She flipped through a few pages and soon realized she couldn’t read that one either.
“I can’t understand any of these,” she muttered under her breath.
Clover stepped across the length of the room.

Fanged followed her, though she had a specific purpose in mind. She was looking for a particular book, a book that she instinctively knew was in this room somewhere. She was able to locate it quickly. The book was a thick, hardcover volume. Its title was written in bold letters across the top: The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe. Most libraries had a copy located within and this one appeared to be no exception. Fanged began to read the book, enjoying the writing style of the author. She was curious as to why he chose to write about such dark subject matter, but she supposed she liked his grimdark style well enough. After passing the time for a while, she put the book down and went over to check on Clover. The Gallor had grown bored and was eager to leave the room. She was already beginning to consider how they would escape.

Fanged was slightly disappointed by Clover's eagerness to leave. She had been looking forward to spending more time in this room, but it appeared that Clover had other plans. She couldn’t blame the Gallor. After all, the creature much preferred to be outside. And since that wasn’t possible at the moment, she at least wanted to be in a room that had some resemblance to the outdoors.
“Well, if we can find a way out to the garden, maybe we can hang out there for a little while,” Fanged remarked.
She approached the door on the right wall of the room. She tried to doorknob, slightly surprised when it opened with ease. She pulled the door ajar and stepped through, holding it open wide enough for Clover to fit through as well. It was a bit odd to travel everywhere with a Gallor, but Fanged was gradually getting used to the larger pet.

The Gallor trotted past Fanged, heading for the door. She stopped at the threshold and looked back at the woman, making sure that she was following her. They entered into a hallway and Fanged was quickly reminded that she had forgotten the candle in the library. She quickly darted back to retrieve it before joining Clover once more. They continued down the hallway. The hallway was lined with door, but it was difficult to decide which one to choose. The duo picked a door at random, checking to see if it would open. Unfortunately, the first one they picked was locked tight.
"Let's try the next one," she suggested.
To their luck, the next door opened immediately. The two quickly entered the room. Fanged held the candle high above her head, illuminating the room. The door led to a small bedroom. A single bed sat against the wall, a nightstand beside it.

Clover huffed in annoyance when she realized that they hadn’t ended up outside. Resigned to her fate, Clover decided to try and make the best of things. She began to wander the room, searching for a suitable place to rest. Fanged glanced around the room, admiring the craftsmanship of the furniture. Her bedroom wasn’t nearly this fancy back on her ranch. Exploring the mansion did wonders to break up the monotony of farm life, however. She wandered over to the bed, examining the pillows.
“This place is super fancy. Kind of a shame that no real person lives here,” she remarked.
Clover responded by picking up one of the pillows between her teeth and dragging it off the bed.
“Oh, you want to play?” Fanged said, grinning.
She grabbed the pillow and tossed it back onto the bed. Clover picked it up again, throwing it to the floor with a bit more vigor this time.

“No fair,” Fanged complained. “I guess you win.”
The woman didn’t want to end up in this loop of playing the same game over and over. She didn’t particularly have the patience for that. Clover paused for a moment, considering her next move. She carried the pillow across the length of the room and threw it onto an armchair. Fanged rolled her eyes and continued to examine the bed. The wooden bedframe was not all it appeared to be at first glance. When Fanged brushed her hand against the wood, it bent beneath her fingers. A trapdoor opened up, revealing a staircase leading down into darkness. Clover looked up in surprise, intrigued by this new development. Fanged carried the candle over towards the dark exit and peered down into it. The darkness was abated slightly by the candle, though she couldn’t see much further ahead of her outstretched arm.

“It looks like it goes down a long way, but I don’t know how far,” she said. “Shall we head on an adventure?”
It would be a bit tricky to coax Clover down the stairs, but even with her large size Fanged was confident that she would be able to manage. The Gallor was a bit hesitant, but she managed to take a few steps forward into the dark passage. The candlelight flickered and sputtered, giving the illusion that there were shadows lurking around every corner. The feeling was unnerving even though Fanged knew there was nothing to be frightened of. She glanced back over her shoulder, ensuring that Clover was still following her. The Gallor might be reluctant, but she was more afraid of being left alone in the previous room. Fanged tried to reassure them both, except she still felt uneasy. She placed one hand on Clover’s neck, stroking her reassuringly.
