The woman kept her face neutral, a master at masking her emotions from observation. If Clover wanted to get a read on her, the Gallor would need to pick up on more subtle body language. Clover spent a few moments studying her. Fanged instead took the opportunity to begin exploring the foyer.
“Areas like this can be more than they first appear. I wonder if there’s any hidden rooms or compartments about,” she remarked.
Clover glanced over at her before deciding to head to the opposite end of the room in order to cover more ground. Fanged focused on the wall. There were a variety of coat wracks pressed against it, as though the mansion expected a mass of people to visit at the same time. The sheer amount of them appeared to indicate that there was more there than what met the eye. Fanged approached, trying to look for any distinguishing markings.

Fanged felt a thrum of pride when she realized that the coat wracks were marked with distinctive runes. They weren’t from any known language, at least not to her, but she assumed she would be able to figure out their puzzle with a bit of work.
Clover in the meantime had come across a section of potted plants. She eyed them with interest, stepping closer to see if any of them would be palatable to taste. She sniffed at the closest one, a planter that had a few colourful flowers delicately set into the soil. She snorted when the odor emitted from them was fouler than expected.
“Make sure you don’t eat anything poisonous,” Fanged called out from across the room.
If Clover had any interest in rolling her eyes, she would have done so then and there. Instead she stepped closer to the pot and delicately nibbled one of the flowers.

The flower surprisingly tasted sweeter than Clover was expecting. Perhaps the foul odor was to keep away any herbivores like herself which would certainly enjoy snacking on its bright petals. She continued eating from the planter until it had emptied. When that was finished, she moved onto the next one. She didn’t dare try to taste the plants in the next. They were covered in a thick layer of brambles and Clover wasn’t about to test her luck on them. Picking thorns out of her teeth would be an unfortunate way to spend the day. Instead, she moved onto the next one.
Fanged took her time reviewing each coat wrack and mentally marking down what the runes were. They didn’t have any direct correlation to anything in the room, but they seemed to build off of each other in a pattern. She should be able to figure it out without additional context.

They weren't alone amongst the plants that grew within the looming indoors; a much, much smaller gallor- hardly a baby- twittered and pattered around nearby. Its head tilted as it bounced about, checking out the individual plants and what they held. Seeds? Bugs? The little one tittered again, still peeking around the flowers here and there...

February With the change in the month, the mansion around them changed as well. The room layout was the same, along with the puzzles, but the theme was entirely different. Elegant was a suitable word for the mansion. Fanged was not particularly versed in the whimsies of interior design, but she was fairly certain that this style would be known as Victorian. “There’s something in here with us,” she remarked out loud suddenly. Clover raised her head and narrowed her eyes as she scanned the room. With the commotion of the changing mansion, she hadn’t noticed anything creeping into the room to join them. The creature soon revealed itself. A small Gallor chattered happily as it flitted about, checking the various plants that were located in the room. Clover tilted her head as she watched, an expression of exacerbation flashed across her features. Fanged was more amused and she moved closer for a better look. Fanged decided to approach the Gallor after she had observed it for a few moments. Its eyes were wide and curious as it examined each plant with excitement. The Gallor chattered cheerfully when it noticed her approaching, its body vibrating with excitement. Its feet left small prints in the dust on the ground as it hopped up and down to express itself. Each time it landed a small cloud of dust puffed up into the air.
“Why aren’t you a cute fella?” Fanged mused aloud.
She turned her head towards the Gallor and chuckled. She made no attempt to hide her amusement at the creature’s antics. The Gallor continued to chatter happily as it checked over each plant. Clover huffed in annoyance when it moved closer to the one that she had wanted to taste next. The creature pinned her ears back and tried to shoo the smaller creature away with her front hoof.

When it was denied access to the plants, the Gallor instead turned towards Fanged’s pant leg and began to nibble on the fabric. It appeared that this little creature was determined to be a bit of a nuisance. Not one to be deterred by silly antics, Fanged decided to take another look at the coat rack puzzle laid out before her. The wood had changed a bit to fit the aesthetic of the new mansion, but the puzzle remained the same. Clover began to eat more plants.
She began to move pieces around until her brain began to wrap itself around the task at hand. She was surprised when an arm off of one of the coat racks proved to be removable and she was able to fit it into another one that seemed more suited for it. She placed the piece down and then began to pull the other pieces apart. They came off easily enough.

"This is going to take some time," she muttered to herself.
Clover grabbed a mouthful of plants and trotted over to Fanged to see how her progress was coming along. The wild Gallor watched them with intrigue. It had settled down somewhat and was content to stay in the company of the duo it had determined to be its new friends. Fanged continued to work on the puzzle at a steady pace. Not one to stay still for very long, however, the wild Gallor once again began to hop around the room. It was curious and kept peering up at Fanged. It kept hopping closer as it tried to catch her scent to commit to its memory. Fanged continued to work at the puzzle until she managed to solve it enough for something interesting to happen. A door to their right swung open quickly, revealing a dark corridor within. Clover looked up in surprise.

“What was that?” Fanged asked curiously.
The Gallor stopped its hopping around the room. It paused and stared intently at Fanged. It seemed to have a question. It didn’t seem to want to go on and investigate, so Fanged took the opportunity to quickly run the wild Gallor back to her kennel where it could get settled in with her other pets. Once she returned, she and Clover turned to head down the dark corridor, glad to see the mansion’s layout had remained the same.
“Guess we might as well take a venture further,” she muttered to Clover as she tried to plot out the rest of their course.
Clover followed without hesitation. She didn’t have much fear of the dark and she was confident in her ability to take care of any trouble that they might come across. Just when Fanged thought it was going to be too dark, they came across a candle.

“I think this will help,” she said as she took the candle from the wall and held it aloft.
The corridor was narrow and dark. Fanged led the way, using the light of the candle to guide them through the winding path. She soon realized that they were ascending. Clover had a bit of difficulty maneuvering the smaller space, but the lack of stairs worked to their benefit. Fanged patted the Gallor on her neck as she stepped closer to her.
It was a short walk before the passage opened up into a larger room. Fanged was able to step aside to allow Clover to pass. The Gallor was eager to be the first to enter the room. The ceiling stretched high above them, adorned with a grandiose chandelier that glittered with light. The woman moved forward to join Clover, glad to be in an area of light. She didn’t blow out the candle, but she set it to the side.

A large round table was centered in the room. The top was covered with an intricate pattern of symbols and runes. There were several chairs surrounding the table, as well as a few other items scattered about. Clover looked rather out of place in such an ornate rune. Though Fanged supposed that a lot of the lab created critters looked rather strange when they were indoors. The woman approached the table, allowing her fingers to trace each of the symbols. She supposed they must mean something, but she hadn’t figured out what they meant just yet.
“Feel free to explore to your heart’s content,” she told Clover.
The Gallor tilted her head, not quite sure where she wanted to start in this new area. There wasn’t much room to move about and most of the items in the room had a distinctive human appeal to them. No there wasn’t enough to interest her here.

Fanged had wandered to the back of the room, near the wall. She perused the smooth stone, marveling that there were patterns of symbols and runes here as well.
“We’ll move on soon, Clover. But I’d still like to figure out a few things,” Fanged commented.
She wasn’t even certain if they’d be able to leave this room anytime soon. It didn’t look like there were any doors that they could exit through. Instead, they were surrounded by smooth stone and intricate drawings.
“Maybe we should try to find another way out,” she suggested.
Clover glanced at Fanged with concern. She didn’t like being stuck in a small room, but she understood that they would need to remain here for a while. She didn't know why, but she felt it was important that Fanged solve the mystery of this room. The woman appeared confident in her abilities and she set out to examine the patterns once more.

Fanged paced the length of the room, looking around for any clues.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything else here, Clover. Are you still okay?” she asked her companion.
The Gallor remained perfectly calm, though the woman suspected that patience wouldn’t last very long. She moved back over to the table, deciding to start there. The images depicted across its surface were extravagant. The symbols looked like they had come straight from a scene of royalty. Many of the symbols resembled crowns or royal creatures that sat upright with a dignified poise.
Fanged examined the symbols carefully. They seemed to be telling a story. It was hard to get a clear picture of exactly what that story was, but the scene seemed to be the key to solving the room.
“If only I could figure out what words these runes would match with. Then maybe I could get some context going,” she mused aloud to Clover.

The Gallor waited patiently as Fanged traced over each word and began to translate them to the pictures they corresponded with. By utilizing both symbols and runes, she was beginning to grasp what the story of the table was. On further inspection, certain images were able to be pressed down. When she got one right it stayed in place. But if she missed one, the entire puzzle reset. While she was busy working on the puzzle, an ominous rumbling occurred throughout the room giving the woman pause.
“I don’t know how long we can stay here, Clover,” she said quietly.
The Gallor tilted her head, curious as to what Fanged was talking about. She hadn’t given much thought to the strange noise, but perhaps it was something to be concerned with. The detective continued to work on the puzzle, making gradual progress as she worked. They had yet to hear more rumbling, but Fanged was still on edge.
