"Riku..." the angel said, as she carressed the side of his face. "I'm in love with you, Riku." She smiled sweetly and gazed deep into his eyes. He could feel her tickling his soul as she studied him. "I always have been...since the day we met." The feathers behind her ear and the jewels around her neck only added to her beauty - and it was a shock as to how. She literally glowed as her yellow hair flowed and wrapped around the both of them.
"I...." he said, his mouth opening, but no words coming out. How...did he feel? He wanted to tell her, but he couldn't process what he would say. It was as if his brain were shut down and all he could do was witness this event playing out.
"Kiss me, Riku..." she softly whispered, leaning in. Her naturally bright red plump lips took his focus as he readied his own.....
Her tongue went up the side of his face. It was hotter and longer than he'd expected, and she took her time exploring from his chin to his temple. Her hot breath tingling the still wet saliva on his skin. She made full eye-contact with him again as he stared back in shock and horror. What had he gotten himself into...?
"Riku..." she spoke again. "I'm in love with you." she looked down at his lips and then back up at his eyes. "Why won't you tell me you love me...?" she pouted. "Riku..." she said again "Riku......" her voice echoed around them.
"Riku....!?" she shouted in his face, the sound slapping around inside his head. "Riku!" once again, her eyes turning a shining gold, and he tongue growing longer and wrapping around his neck. She brushed it up his face over and over until he opened his eyes. "Riku, wake up, now!" she insisted.
His eyes adjusted as the hazy and bright room stopped spinning and faded from white to color. The woman's yellow hair had grown shorter....but was now everywhere. Her eyes were still bright and without pupils, but no longer gold. The feathers.....were wings? And she suddenly had a horn. "Scarlet...?" he said, groggy from waking up.
"Finally!" Scarlet cheered in victory. She jumped on her back legs twice as a little dance and her five tails whipped back and forth a few times in excitement. "Riku, get up!" she said "There is someone downstairs...!"
"What!?" he shrieked, sitting up immediately. His abs weren't yet awake, so it was an abrupt shift that moved around the dinner still being digested from the night before. "You let someone inside!? Scarlet, it's a weekend and we don't open until ten!" He turned and grabbed the clock beside his bed that...apparently wasn't working.
"No, Riku, it's Friday - and it's ten-thirty." she cooed with sass, moving to the edge of the bedroom and waiting by the door while he sat on his bed and put his shoes on. "Besides, I didn't let them in. They're just knocking on the door."
"Oh, well..." he said, slipping the second show on the rest of the way, "Who is it?" he stood up and looked in the mirror facing him. He flicked a crusty stain near the collar, but it clearly needed to be washed. With a sigh, he pulled the shirt up and off, and bent over rustling through his pile of clean clothes on the side of the bed for a different shirt.
"I don't know, I've never seen them." she said, studying his physique as he changed. "I tried to ignore them, but they wouldn't go away. So...here I am." she blushed and he finally found something appropriate and held it up to his chest. "Hurry up."
He slipped the shirt on and stepped closer to her and followed her out the door. Walking down the narrower hallway, he tried to get past her many tails and she kept turning around to make sure he was still coming. "Scarlet, I love you, but sorry - please - move." he uncomfortably commanded.
At this point in their relationship, he tried not to demand her to do anything. She was pretty much free to do her own thing on her own time, and they spent time together whenever they did. It wasn't like the old days when she was always by his side. He had a teaching job now, ran a business, and had many outings on his search for ways to best create his own magic. It hurt at first, but she seemed to understand. In fact, now she even seemed to enjoy having her own room and private time.
She let him pass awkwardly, and softly thought "I....love you, too."
He slammed down the stairs quickly, his weight making heaving bangs on the wood. Around the corner and to the bottom right next to the would-be receptionist's desk...where the receptionist would be if they could afford to hire one yet. Apparently for now all they had was a mostly-unhelpful Malii. Where was everyone else, anyway? He had like ten Malii there already.
Through the glass in the door he could see someone still standing there waiting for him. They had seen him come downstairs and waved politely. "You open at ten, right...?" they modestly asked through the door, clearly already knowing it was after ten-thirty.
"Sorry, yes..." Riku began, putting the key in the knob and turning it to the right to unlock the door for guests. "I'm so sorry," he said, opening the door and welcoming her in "my alarm clock must have reset in the middle of the night. I overslept."
Scarlet stepped forward and sniffed the woman's fingertips as she entered, holding a small briefcase in one arm close to her chest. She had her hair up in a bun and she looked to be in her late thirties. She had a modest outfit of a blue blouse and long grey shirt. She had high heels on, which clicked as she stepped on the hardwood flooring.
"No, it's okay..." she replied "I got here an hour early anyway."
"An hour!? he shrieked again, his chest tightening a bit. He looked down at the Malii with an expression of both frustration while also needing to have figured as much. "Someone didn't tell me until just now, again I am sorry." The Malii turned and walked behind the counter to ignore his nonvocal scorn. "Well," he said while gesturing for her to follow him into the Lobby....which was only a few feet away with nothing but two comfortable chairs across from the desk.
"You must be rather in need of our help if you were willing to wait so long and put up with rude Malii ignoring you." he said, throwing his voice to the other side of the counter for Scarlet to here his mocking. It was alright. He wasn't mad. He knew she was like this - especially since they had become less twenty-four-seven. However, now they had a bit of a back and forth. She did something picky or lazy - spoiled - and he would clean up the mess and mock her for it....at which she would proudly hold her head high and accept the teasing as a compliment. It was her way of getting the same worshiping attention she did before....it was just different words being used. That didn't matter that much to her.
"Y-yes," she said, her hand shaking a bit as she held the briefcase. She raised the other one to hold the one that was quivering. "I....I think I've been possessed." she threw on them, refusing to make eye-contact.
"That would explain the hair..." Scarlet jealously sneered through the ribbon. Riku fought his face to avoid instinctively rolling his eyes. He also didn't want to laugh to encourage the Malii's behavior....even though a large part of him really admired the little bad-ass she had been forming into. It was an awkward rebel phase, but he had definitely had his own one of those - and it's not like she could do any worse than he did in his.
"What makes you said that...?" he asked, quickly adding "-Not to say I don't believe you. I'd just like to know the symptoms first before we further analyze the condition."
"Well...." she dazed off "My hand, for example, does this..this shaking thing. And I've been having these nightmares a lot lately. Nothing in particular, they don't repeat. It's just nightmares in general." She looked into his eyes again, vulnerable and desperate. "Can you help me?"
"Hmm....I'm sorry - and not sorry - to say that I don't think it's a possession." he started, which caused the woman's expression to change to surprised and hopeful. "That would look very different, and often there would be a name given. In fact, they usually expect you to somehow have heard of them." He laughed with himself, even though the topic was much less...nerdy and more sincere. Catching himself he said "I believe your spirit is just a little misaligned. That can cause nerve damage as well as hormonal imbalances that would trigger anxiety and likely the nightmares."
He called over the Malii, who swished her tails and purposefully rubbed against the woman as a sort of power trip. "Scarlet here can help with this. I just need you to breathe deeply and try to relax. Open your mind and your spirit so that she can heal your soul." He looked down and nodded at the creature, who's eyes were glowing. "This will just take a few seconds."
The woman closed her eyes and clenched them shut. Her fists tightened at her sides, and her jaw was tense. She tried to clear her mind, but all she could feel was anxiety. It wasn't exactly specific thoughts about what she was stressed about - just the symptoms of physical stress themselves.
Scarlet's eyes glowed as she tried to heal the woman, but the flared muscles of her physical reaction was like a wall blocking her ability from reaching the deeper and less physical part of her soul. She shook her head a few times and tried to go deeper, but it was no use. "She's not open enough..."
"Okay, what was your name...?" Riku asked, trying to distract the woman and make a personal connection to hopefully help her feel more comfortable with them.
"Linda." she replied, opening one eye to look at him and then closing it again. She went back into her 'relaxation' attempt.
"Okay, Linda. It seems like you're completely blocked up right now." he reached out and put a warm hand on her upper arm, hoping the touch was not against her comfort zone. He tried to empathetically level with her. "Relaxing isn't so much about what to do, but rather what not to do..." She nodded and he continued. "First of all, take a deep breath in.......and hold it....and....release it slowly. Slowly....Okay, back in now. And hold....and release it slowly again..."
The woman's nostrils flared as she inhaled, and her chest went up. And she blew the air out again in a more controlled manner with her lips like she was exhaling into a straw. Scarlet watched their exchange but had stepped away to give them and herself space.
"Okay, that's good." Riku confirmed. "Now try to breathe deeper, lower into your abdomen instead of higher in your chest. In....good. And out....very good. Do you feel that expand your belly?"
The woman nodded again without saying anything. Her stomach expanded as she inhaled the next few times.
"Now when you exhale, use those same muscles to push out as much air as possible. Suck your gut in as much as you can until there is no more air to blow. In, again, and deep.......and..out...out as much as possible. A little more! Give me everything you have to give......and inhale. Great!" he smiled with a bit of a laugh. "How do you feel?" he asked, lightly squeezing her shoulder he was still holding.
"Light headed." she laughed as well and continued to breathe in and out with those intentions.
Scarlet moved forward again and tried to heal the woman. She could feel the lady's soul this time and could see it in her mind, in a way - but there was still too much tension. "Riku, I still can't."
"Okay, Linda, what I'd like you to do, now that you are breathing properly, is relax your hands." He moved his hand from her shoulder and gently tapped the back of her right hand. "Release the fist and just let your fingers hand. That's it. Feel better...?" She nodded, so he continued. "Now shakes your hands a bit to let the tension go and get the blood into those fingertips. There you go." He laughed with her as she felt uncomfortable with how silly it may have looked. "I know, it can feel weird, but it helps a lot. Now I'd like you to relax the muscles in your face. Breathe in and out, and with each breath feel your lips calm. Feel your eyebrows relieve their tension. Your cheeks can lower themselves and even your neck and shoulders a bit lower can just let go of the day - and the week, and the month - and relax.
Scarlet could feel a sort of click...or rather absence of something.
"I'm in!" she cheered through the ribbon, her attitude accidentally slipping away at the excitement of the challenge and now victory. Her eyes glowed once more, and she stepped closer to the woman who was going deeper and deeper into relaxation. "That's it..." the creature said as she worked her natural healing magic. She got even closer and pressed the tip on her nose on the woman's hip. Her head knelt down and the tip of her horn also pressed against the human.
As if a double-image were to finally find perfect focus, everyone in the room could tangibly feel and almost see the shift. Linda's soul was in alignment once more, and when she opened her eyes they even seemed to be a slightly brighter color blue.
"Wow..." she said, as if it were the first clear sky after a long hurricane. "I already feel so different. I'm not sure if it was the meditation or the healing."
