Fiera kept it going like that for... she wasn't sure how long. Later she would check her watch and realize they had been in that room for over an hour, but at the time she simply went until she was too exhausted to keep going. Her arms burned and her chest heaved. Mango was trying not to show it, but he felt the same way, his legs trembling no longer with fear but with exhaustion. Slowly Fiera's projectiles tapered out until she was simply too fed up to throw anymore. The pouch of treats she had been feeding him with was nearly out too. "Well. I think that'll do for today, eh Mango?" She said with a laugh, hands on her knees as she tried to catch her breath. Realizing it was over, Mango trotted up to her and laid down on her feet, also too tired to move and further. She laughed and sat down with him for a spell- until they were recovered enough to leave.

Mango wasn't a baby anymore. It was almost painful to Fiera, watching him grow up, but she had to admit- what a beautiful beast he had grown up into! He still had long legs and big, beautiful eyes, but his fur had grown out into a beautiful mane and a swishing tail that reminded her of her own. He was a stellar example of a wild repointe. He was still quite shy for a creature his size, but it had a sort of charming bashfulness to it instead of the abject terror that characterized his childhood. The increase in size and strength had apparently done wonders for his confidence, leaving him able to gently say 'no thank you' to things that made him uncomfortable instead of running away in fear. It made him a lot more suitable for training as well, and so she had returned to the training gym. Fiera 6 Mango 68.1/20.1 Resistance 1

As she checked him in, she made small talk with the front desk about how big and pretty he had gotten, but she also considered her goals for the day. She had trained him in dexterity last time, but running and jumping around wasn't all there was to repointe. It was what they were best at mind you, and so it was what Fiera should probably try to focus on for battle strategies, but that meant that he had some glaring weak points as well. Repointes had tough gemstone plates growing from their back, but in wild repointe they were few and far apart, leaving them more light weight for dancing around their enemies or chasing down prey. That meant that Mango was left open for some easy hits in the long run, and left him weak to elemental attacks as well. And that, Fiera couldn't stand for, so she brought him in to try and get him used to it.

Furthermore, Mango was a wild repointe, whom had a very special ability. They could pull the ether- twist the threads of elemental magic how they pleased, turning normal attacks into elementally based ones. A strike with his hooves could summon a strike of lightning as well, a bite could become wreathed in flames, his horns could be made extra sharp with a coating of ice crystals, so on and so forth. But... that didn't mean that Mango was an elemental creature. Fiera was concerned- could the ice he made not freeze him too? Would the fire not burn him? Not to mention that she could only prepare him with face to face training for so much. There was a very real chance that he could hurt himself with his own powers- so Fiera's goal here was to increase his resistance to different elements such that that didn't happen. Or at the very least- different temperatures.

Fiera didn't feel it was safe to throw outright lightning or acid at her pet, but she knew the training gym did have a climate controlled room in the resistance training wing explicitly for this purpose. If you couldn't teach your pet an outright elemental resistance, you could at least raise their resistance to odd temperatures in general. Mango had no idea what was coming for him, but Fiera was sure he would prove successful. She finished up the paperwork, placing her pen back down on the counter with a satisfying clack, and led Mango off down the halls with a quick command to follow her. It didn't take long to reach the resistance training wing of the gym, and she started looking through the rooms for the one she had read about. She noted that a lot of them were already in use- the rooms were often specialized in function and so couldn't really be used by multiple creatures at once.

Her lips quirked down- she hoped the one she was looking for wasn't already taken. This place had been getting busy with the tournament coming up. In retrospect, she should have expected to find this many people here and should have come earlier as a result. Then, she saw the door she was looking for. "Climate room" it read in simply printed letters, a braille plaque alongside the door. Perfect. With a little bit of hesitation, she peeked in through the window. No one was there. Perfect. "Come on then, Mango!" She said, tugging on his lead. They both stepped into the room. There was a protected chamber on one side with a glass barrier on it, so you could see and speak to your pet, but would be safe from the elements that the room was designed to create. The main room was rather plain, with a plastic-like material making up all of the non-glass walls.

The whole room, including the floor, was covered in small vents every couple of inches- no doubt for blowing in and sucking out air of different humidities and temperatures. Mango attempted to sniff around a bit, but the room was so well ventilated that there was, to be truthful, nothing to smell. He looked at Fiera with confusion as she closed the door behind her and entered the observation chamber. It was wide enough that she could pace back and forth and Mango could follow her. Ideally, he would do so while the temperature cycled up and down. Then, presumably, he would get used to those rapid changes in temperature over time and become more resistant as a result. It was an interesting idea- but Fiera would have to see how well it worked in practice. She took a look at the control panel- it had manual buttons and dials, but there was interestingly one option labeled "auto-train".

She pressed it, and a faint panel below it started blinking. She squinted at it... ah, it was asking for Mango's species and weight. She went through the options- apparently repointe were too new to be included in the machine, so she switched it to galabex (close enough... right?) and entered an approximation of his weight. Good enough. Chances are whoever designed this knew how to teach pets to resist temperature changes better than her, so it was better to go with the automatic settings. It set a timer for an hour, and immediately started counting down. Fiera's ear twitched. She guessed that meant it had gotten started. A bit faster than she would have preferred, but perhaps it was better to not waste time. "Mango!" She called, suddenly needing to get on task. "Follow me!" She said, and started out on the far wall of the room. Mango walked over to her curiously.

She started pacing back and forth along the wall, obligating Mango to follow her. She glanced at the control panel on her way over- the temperature was already starting to creep up. She guessed that meant it really was started. She didn't HAVE to have Mango follow her. He could just as easily be "trained" by holding completely still. But Fiera knew that dealing with an uncomfortable situation was much harder when you didn't have anything to do. Like sitting in a waiting room when you were in pain. If she could keep him moving, then the task inn his mind would be "Following- and also it's hot for some reason?" instead of "It's hot. It's so hot. I hate how hot it is. I can't deal with this." When she got to the end of the room, she started rifling around in her pockets. There was a one way vent on the door.

Fiera had wondered what it was for when she first walked in- why would you need a vent on a door when you didn't want the control room to change temperature? Now she realized what it was for though- slipping treats to the creatures outside of it. She finally pulled out the baggie of meat flavored treats, and Mango's ears perked up. "You want one? You're doing a good job!" Fiera said, and slipped one through the door. A gust of hot air pushed its way through the vent as she dropped it through- it was only March, but it felt like a hot summer's day in the room Mango was in. He instantly fell upon it, snapping it up before Fiera ordered him to follow once more, pacing back the other way. She glanced at the thermometer- screw hot summer day, it was getting very hot in there now.

Mango was definitely feeling it now too. Though he was still keeping up with her admirably, she could see him panting, his mouth kept wide open to try and control his internal temperature a bit. She paced him back and forth a few times after that, giving him a treat each time along with some comforting words just to keep him going. She glanced at the thermometer with each repeat as well, until finally she saw it start plunging down. Mango sighed with relief as the room started pumping in cold air instead of hot, but Fiera could only cringe- while it would feel nice for a little bit, this meant that the OTHER end of the temperature scale was only just getting started. It would no doubt be brutal work for Mango, but that was the point of gym training- pushing a creature beyond their limits to reach new heights.

Sure enough, as she kept walking back and forth the temperature kept dropping. This was something that Mango was at least already partially capable of dealing with. As a repointe, he had a thick mane and tail that would keep him much warmer than a beast with a lighter pelage. But at the end of the day, he was still a wild repointe, a breed designed to prance through thick, humid jungles. The cold might not be as dangerous for him as the heat, but it was just as uncomfortable. She watched as the sweat that had poured from his fur minutes ago stilled and then slowly turned to frost. Mango began to shiver, shaking himself off to free himself from the ice crystals. Fiera let him take his time in following her- it made sense that he would need a moment to collect his senses after the sudden change.

Soon he was right back at it though, following Fiera and letting her drop treats through the slot. This time the air the burst through the temporarily opened gap was freezing cold, and Fiera almost regretted not bringing a pair of gloves. To be fair though, she hadn't been expecting to actually need them. While he clearly didn't like the cold, Fiera noted that Mango didn't seem prone to stopping either. It was as if a switch had flipped in his mind. Rather than being scared, he seemed to realize that this was simply a thing he needed to do, something he needed to get through, so he marched on stolidly. Fiera grinned at that- that was exactly the sort of mindset she had been hoping to impress on him with this training. Now that he had it, she was sure he could get through anything. Including the rest of the training, she realized as she checked the clock.

They were only about halfway through the autotrainer's timer at this point. He had the right mindset for better resistance, but now he had to actually develop the body condition to go with it so he wasn't all talk and no substance- so to speak. It would be hard work, but they were both locked in for the long haul. So they continued pacing- going back and forth as the climate machine cranked the temperature up and down. Fiera also finally took the time to check the other dials as well, and realized that the machine had also been modulating things like windspeed, air pressure, and humidity as well as regular temperature. It looked like Mango had been subjected to a lot more than she thought with the goal of trying to make him more resistant. She was also quite glad then that she hadn't tried to do it manually- she probably would have outright missed a lot of these options.

To his credit though, Mango was putting up with all of those conditions admirably. Even when he was getting buffeted by wind, dripping with humidity, fried by heat or frozen by cold, he kept on marching alongside Fiera. She didn't have to do too much work herself admittedly, but she was dutifully feeding him treats. The longer they went on for though, the less it all seemed to bother him. He didn't pant nearly as much during the hot phases, nor shiver during the cold ones. When the wind blew hard he initially squeezed his eyes shut, but now his eyelids barely even fluttered. It was clear he was doing much better now than at the start. Fiera checked the timer- they were nearly done too, so he was right on schedule. Still, they had a few more phases to go. "You can do it, Mango!" She shouted through the glass.
