His ear gave a flick as he acknowledged her, but still kept soldiering on. Fiera kept fulfilling her own duties, but it hardly felt like she needed to anymore- it looked like Mango knew exactly what he was doing by this point. He kept pacing back and forth regardless of whether Fiera was keeping up with him, and the changes in climate hardly seemed to bother him anymore. If Fiera wasn't keeping an eye on the dials, she wouldn't even be able to tell what was happening, as he didn't have any reaction to them anymore. Finally however, she heard a loud beep from the control panel. She watched as all of the dials returned to their normal settings, and "training complete" read in faint analog letters on the dashboard. They were done. She cracked the door from the control room, and Mango immediately came over to press his head against her. "Hey buddy." She said, giving his head a pat. "Let's get you some water, eh?"

Fiera was back at the training gym again with Mango. His last session had taken a lot of out of him. Granted, he didn't have to actually move. All he really did was stand in a room that had its temperature modulated up and down. But the experience still exhausted him, physically and mentally. She had given him a while to recover, but she knew she'd have to get back on the (metaphorical, Mango was some manner of deer-fox and she didn't really want to sit on him with those antlers) horse and get back to training. This time however, she was expecting the experience to be more up his alley. She had already trained him in dexterity once, but she was sure she could push him even further so he could reach new and greater heights in speed and grace. It wouldn't even be too difficult for her- dexterity was one of her favorite things to train. Fiera 1 Mango 71.1/23.1 Dexterity 1

To his credit, Mango appeared to be in a much improved mood as well. He trotted cheerfully through the front door of the training gym, taking in all the sights and smells as Fiera approached the front desk. There was a lot of them today, though he couldn't see any other creatures right now. Fiera always had something new to show him when they went out, and he felt like he was finally starting to get used to all of it. He trotted up to the front desk after a moment, where Fiera was making people-noises at the person there, and the person behind the front desk gave him a little pat on the head and a free treat, just for being cute. Awesome. Today was going to be great- no matter WHAT weird stuff Fiera had to throw at him. Finally, Fiera set the pen down and took up his leash again.

She led him back through the halls of the training gym, the doors passing by them one by one. This place was busy as usual, but she knew they'd have a lot more room to themselves once they got outside. There was a lot more space out there for one, so if there were a lot of people they had a tendency to space out. Plus, they had a lot more training stations as you could use a single track to train more than one area of expertise, so it was simply... bigger. Fiera's shoes clopped against the floor as she finally reached a set of wide double doors, unlike the automatic sliding doors in the front. She pushed them open, stepping back out into the brisk spring air. Mango blinked slightly as he stepped out as well, confused as to where they were going. Fiera seemed to have an idea though, so he kept following.

Now that she was out here in the open, she got the opportunity to weigh her options. There were several racing tracks, always a solid option, though many of them were occupied by sometimes multiple trainers, pitting their pets against each other for mutual training. It was an efficient option to be sure, but Fiera wasn't in the mood for so much human interaction. Then there was a fenced off area, noticeably, with a series of tires and hurdles set on the ground. She walked up to the fence. It looked like they were actually nailed down- even the strongest creature wasn't going to simply plow right through these without noticing. They made the area rather flat and navigable, but bumpy and difficult to actually walk across. Unless, of course, you knew exactly where you were putting your feet. Perfect- that was just what she needed for Mango's training today.

She walked over to the gate and pulled it open, beckoning Mango inside. He stepped in easily, but immediately looked around in confusion at all of the... crap all over the ground. He sniffed at a tire and tapped it with a hoof curiously. Then he bit it, immediately gagging on the flavor of hard rubber. "Yeah, you aren't going to like that." Fiera said with a chuckle. "However, you are going to like... this!" She said, and pulled a treat out of her pocket. It was a soft thing made of meat and... whatever kibble was usually made of. This particular one smelled like fish, and quite strongly at that. Mango was delighted at the sight of it, and trotted over to grab it out of Fiera's hand. Perfect. His motivation to get at these treats would be key in getting him to perform well today. All she had to do was keep throwing them to him.

Of course, the tires and hurdles wouldn't be easy to traverse- but that was the point of this exercise, to get him used to it. The fighting arena was no doubt going to be filled with all sorts of obstacles and debris from the fight, along with whatever traps his opponents set up. That was what this for- to mimic those circumstances and train him to think on his feet. “You ready, Mango?” Fiera said, holding up a treat. His ears perked up and his legs tensed- he seemed to at least THINK he was ready. “Good enough for me- let’s go!” Fiera said, and threw the treat as hard as she could across the field, watching it sail across several tires. Mango immediately ran off to go get it, but the terrain proved far more difficult than he initially thought. He almost immediately caught his foot on a tire and stumbled sideways into a hurdle.

Fiera watched with more than a little embarrassment as her supposedly oh-so-nimble repointe gracelessly flopped to the ground like a fish. So much for that. Not to be deterred though, Mango got his footing again and picked his way across the field, constantly smacking his feet on the tires or failing to jump out of them properly. Fiera glanced around- there were a few people outside of her fenced area that were looking in this general direction. She quietly prayed they weren’t watching her and her terrible pet. “Come on Mango, hurry up…” She muttered under her breath. Finally, he seemed to find the treat. The wild repointe bleated with delight and picked something up out of one of the tires, chewing on it loudly. Well, at least he didn’t lose track of it. “Good… good job, Mango.” Fiera said with a hint of exhaustion in her voice. That was… awful.

Mango definitely needed to up his game, though there was only one way to do that: practice. He certainly didn’t seem to LIKE doing a terrible job of catching his treats. He was only barely able to find it to start with, and tripping over every single tire on the field probably wasn’t painless. Either way, he was now looking at her expectantly. “Ready for the next one?” Fiera asked rhetorically. He had better be. She raised her arm back and let it fly, this time right over one of the hurdles. Mango bolted off after it, and to Fiera’s delight he managed to fly right over the hurdle like a creature of his build SHOULD be able to do… only for a horrible clattering noise to come from the other side. Fiera wandered around the perimeter of the tire field and found that Mango, unable to see where he was landing, had tangled himself up in the tires again.

To his credit though, he recovered much more quickly than before, getting his legs under him again within a few moments and running off after where the treat landed. He was still hitting himself on everything, but… a bit faster this time, perhaps driven by determination and frustration. It was almost painful to watch, but was probably worse for Mango. Still, he managed to accomplish his goal in less time than before, finding where the treat had landed and eating it. Fiera supposed she could check that off as a bit of improvement, messy as it was. To her surprise though, he immediately looked up and towards her. “...What, you want to go again?” Fiera said with a bit of a laugh. Was he actually enjoying this in a way? She supposed it meant he was getting free food, but it was so painful to watch that Fiera couldn’t imagine it.

Still, it wasn’t like she was the one running around in the tire field, so she had no room to talk. Fiera got another one ready and threw it across the field again. This time, Mango watched where it fell, but didn’t set out sprinting after it. Instead, the repointe carefully picked his way across the tire field, to Fiera’s surprise. Instead of just tripping over everything, he took careful note, step by step, of where each tire was and where he needed to step in order to step in, on, or around it without tripping. The hurdles he mostly avoided, though he gave each one a quick sniff as well, as if identifying it. Him taking his environment into account was important to be sure, though Fiera hoped he wouldn’t take this long to do so in a fight- he wouldn’t last very long in that case.

But, perhaps he would improve. Already he was doing better at traversing over the tire field, and even though he was taking a lot of time to examine his environment, he was still ultimately stepping through faster because he wasn't tripping over everything. Within a few minutes he was able to find the treat again and Fiera got the next one ready. "Mango, over here!" She said, and launched it the moment Mango looked over, trying to speed him up a bit. Mango ran off after it, glancing between the ground and his target. It was a bit goofy looking, how his head kept twitching back and forth, but he was admittedly moving a bit faster and more accurately. Mango grabbed that treat a lot more quickly and looked back at Fiera eagerly. She smiled- he was starting to get the hang of this, now they just had to refine it.

He had hit upon the secret of keeping an eye on his target and his surroundings at the same time, now he just had to improve in actually navigating around them. "Ready, Mango? Let's go!" She said, and launched another treat across the field. He made a beeline towards it this time, clambering over the tires in a way that wasn't graceful, but she couldn't call it 'tripping' either. Towards the end he even launched himself off another one of the hurdles, this time landing on his feet on the other side- a fantastic improvement from his actions before. After a few more seconds of sniffing, he found the treat and rose back up with it in his mouth, victorious. Fiera gave him a bit of applause and he trotted back towards her proudly- and she couldn't help but notice that his cute little high step was putting him precisely in the center of each tire.

Excellent. He was clearly on the right track. She gave him a scratch on the cheek when he reached her before pulling out another treat. He snuffled gently at her hand, but she pushed him away. "Easy. You know the game by now." Then she threw the treat, and watched it fly over the tires with Mango close behind. She watched as he flew over the tires, now only occasionally glancing down. She paced back and forth- he was a lot more graceful by now, she had to admit. He was still telegraphing his actions and line of sight pretty well though- any foe who was smart enough to watch their opponent's actions would be able to tell where he was going next. Hopefully that would go away on its own as Mango improved though. The better at this he got, the less he would actively look at where he was going to go next.

Within a few moments, he had sprung across the field after the treat. To Fiera's surprise, Mango nearly caught it in midair, though he just barely missed. It clattered into the center of a tire, and he shoved his face into it to take his prize, not caring if it was a little dirty now. As creatures normally did. Fiera was sure she didn't need to repeat this too many more times now- Mango seemed to be almost finished. He was bounding across this field with ease now, but she decided to give it a few more goes just to make sure it was nice and refined. She tossed another treat up in the air a few times, and Mango seemed laser focused on it. Another quick toss and he was off, bounding across the field. She grinned- now she could see how far he had truly come in this session.
