The mechanical wiurn was much smarter than his peers, and somehow Nerius couldn't be surprised that somehow he'd learned about how the Pit now had "boss" creatures. Varkon sought to fight the strongest opponents he could find, and of course he wanted to challenge one of these new foes. Nerius had explained that he wasn't any where near ready, leading to the wiurn insisting that they correct that.
So the two had set out to the park as soon as Nerius was able to fit that into his schedule. The wiurn hadn't been a fan of the wait, but Nerius wasn't about to drop everything just because he wanted to fight. Especially since they had quite a bit of work to do, Varkon was no stranger to battle, but his skill set was somewhat limited at the moment. Very limited, actually, and Nerius had several ideas of what they needed to work on, though he doubted the wiurn would enjoy all of them.

[Varkon - Ker-zaap! ("Shock") - 1]
Those "unpleasant" ones were really more an issue of pride, they'd already gotten the 'throw objects at him to learn how to evade attacks' part out of the way. Still, Nerius would rather start with something that wouldn't put the wiurn in an ill temper.
The park was rather busy today, and it look a bit of walking to find a large enough open space that wasn't taken, but after some searching were able to find a decent spot. This prompted the wiurn to state, through the ribbon, <You said you have a plan?>
<I do.> Nerius even had a proper list this time, and had done his research beforehand. <We'll start with your electricity,> he explained. It wasn't as powerful as say, breathing fire, but elemental adaptability was useful when facing something physically resistant, or aquatic.
<Very well,> the wiurn was agreeable to using those powers, which was why Nerius close it as a starting point.

[Varkon - Ker-zaap! ("Shock") - 2]
<First we'll focus on power, than accuracy,> Nerius explained, watching as the wiurn lifted a claw off the ground, sparking flares of electricity between the claw tips.
<Do you have a target in mind?> the cyborg asked, Nerius was wearing a backpack, and he had no idea what was inside, but it couldn't fit anything large enough to be a decent target for a creature the size of a wiurn.
<That,> Nerius pointed to a fallen tree. Its demise looked to be recent, it was badly clawed, but still had green leaves, and in theory wouldn't be too dry and flammable. Varkon wasn't very impressed by the target, and gave Nerius the side eye. <It doesn't need to be anything fancy, you're just going to destroy it,> he explained, <Now shock it!>
Varkon made a mechanical grumble, but cooperated, rearing up on his hind legs, and letting loose a bolt of electricity at the tree.

[Varkon - Ker-zaap! ("Shock") - 3]
There was the scent of burning wood, and a dark scorch mark marred the bark where the bolt had hit. It wasn't a very impressive in size though, and Nerius knew the wiurn was capable of more impressive charge than that. <A good start, but you'll need to put more power into it. Shock it again!>
Varkon reared up again, and let loose another bolt of electricity. It hit the tree, the large log wasn't a hard target to strike, and while the scorch mark was a little larger, it still wasn't that impressive.
<Better,> Nerius determined, after inspecting the log, then stepping back to be out of the line of fire. <But try it again, shock!> Varkon growled, at the tree trunk, not Nerius, and shocked the log again, adding another scorch to the bark's growing collection. Though it still wouldn't be pleasant to be hit by those bolts, none of the marks were terribly impressive.

[Varkon - Ker-zaap! ("Shock") - 4]
Nerius knew the wiurn was capable of more than that, he'd seen Varkon unleash more powerful bolts than that when irritated. But it wasn't the lack of ill temper that was the issue, he suspected, but rather, how the wiurn was releasing the electricity. <Varkon, you have electrical generators in both arms, yes?> Nerius asked the wiurn, who was currently glaring at the tree trunk.
<I do,> at this, Varkon swiveled his head around to stare at the mage, <But neither is stronger than the other.>
Nerius shook his head, before clarifying, <Can you fire them both at once though? Or can you not route that level of charge at once?>
Varkon blinked, before looking to his forelimbs <I suppose I can.>
<Shock the tree again,> Nerius instructed, <Both generators this time.> At this, Varkon turned back to the trunk, rearing up, both forelimbs sparking before unleashing a bolt of electricity at the tree.

[Varkon - Ker-zaap! ("Shock") - 5]
Once the cyborg's limbs had stopped sparking, Nerius moved forward to inspect the tree. The scorch mark was far more impressive this time, and the smell of charred wood stronger than it had been. <Much better!> he told the wiurn, who tried to keep a straight face, but Nerius was familiar enough with the creature to know he was pleased with himself. Better than dealing with some of his egotistical drakes, at least.
<Keep practicing, you'll want to be able to do this without thinking in a fight,> Nerius moved back from the log, before instructing <Shock it again!>
Varkon growled a little at the log as he reared up, hitting it with another two handed bolt. It ripped across the bark, charring some of the green leaves into dry, dead husks.
Nerius could see even without having to get too close that the scorch was a good size. <Excellent! Now, keep practicing.>

Varkon wasn't thrilled about the repetitive nature of the task, but he understood it was necessary. One of the advantages of training something more intelligent. So Varkon didn't complain (unlike some creatures) as he continued to practice hitting the log with his electricity.
After a good bit of practice, Nerius was confident he had the power down, and it was time to move on to the next step. <You're doing enough damage, now I'd like to move on to accuracy,> he explained, <Your foe isn't going to be just standing there, you'll need to be able to hit a moving target.>
<I hope you're not planning on throwing rocks,> Varkon eyed him suspiciously, remembering too well the 'danger sense' training.
<Not at you, and it won't be rocks, it'll be disks,> Nerius assured him. The small ceramic plates were designed for humanoid weapon practice, but they looked like they'd work perfectly for this task.

Nerius slid off his backpack, and removed a cardboard box holding the disks. They were a little fragile, and couldn't just be shoved in a pack without any padding. They'd all survived the trip, thanks to the box, and Nerius removed several stacks of the disks. Hopefully there would be enough, if not he could always improvise with sticks and such. He'd aim for a patch of bushes, that way at least of Varkon missed, the disks could be reused.
<I'm going to throw these disks, you need to shock them once they're in the air.> Nerius held up a ceramic disk, <And away from me, wait until I give the signal.> As he finished speaking, Nerius threw the disk. His aim wasn't great, and he doubted he'd be able to hit a target if he tried, but at least managed to avoid the wiurn, and send it in the direction of the bushes. <Now shock!>

Varkon reared up, and let loose a bolt of electricity with both claws, but the arc of electricity missed, and the disk landed unharmed in the bushes. Varkon gave a low growl of frustration, but Nerius hadn't really been expecting him to hit on first try.
<I'm going to throw another,> he told the wiurn before he could get too grumpy, and once it was in the air instructed, <Shock!> Varkon tried again, but as before the bolt missed, and the disk escaped unscathed. <You'll need to move faster,> Nerius explained, from what he could tell, the main issue was the cyborg firing too late. He tossed another disk, and repeated <Shock!>
This time, the bolt hit, and the disk shattered. <That was better!> Nerius told the wiurn, but he'd noticed the bolt wasn't as dramatic as it usually was, <But that didn't look like as bright a bolt as before.> It looked like he'd sacrificed power for speed, and that wasn't ideal.

<I didn't have time,> the wiurn grumbled, and would have been frowning at Nerius had wiurns the capability for that expression.
<And that's why you need to practice until you can hit with both speed and power,> Nerius explained, surprisingly patiently, even to himself. <I'm going to throw another, alright? This time don't sacrifice power, we'll just need to keep trying until you can hit it.> The cyborg huffed, but agreed, and Nerius threw another disk.
He missed again, though the bolt was back to his usual strength. Nerius had to throw several more disks, but after a some practice, Varkon was able to hit one, shattering the disk with the full power of his shock.
<That was great!> Nerius told him, more enthusiastic than the wiurn; Varkon was also please to hit the disk, but it was more a feeling of 'ugh, finally'.
<I'll throw another one, you need to be able to hit consistently,> Nerius tossed another disk, and Varkon reared up as the instruction to <Shock!> was given.

[Varkon - Ker-zaap! ("Shock") - 10]
He was moving faster, but still missed the disk. Nerius threw another, repeating the attack word. This one hit, much to both his and the wiurn's satisfaction. It still wasn't consistent, and threw more of the disks, with increasing amounts of hits the more he threw.
Eventually, he ran out of disks, and had to pause to go gather up the 'misses' that had landed in the bushes. There were still plenty to practice with, there had been more misses than hits at the start. As they practiced, Varkon became increasingly more accurate, until almost all of the bolts were hitting. He still had a few unbroken disks left, and decided to have Varkon practice until the last of the disks were broken. He was confident the wiurn's aim was solid, but it saved him from having the bring the disks home, and a little extra practice never hurt.

[Varkon - Fly - 1]
They took a little break after that, and Nerius took out the frozen blood cubes he'd brought for Varkon. The wiurn didn't eat solids, but he did consume blood, along with what Nerius could best describe as 'life force'. The latter was his favorite, from what Nerius could tell, but he liked the cubes as well, and they were something he could actually transport. It was strange to train a creature motivated by more abstract concepts, the way Varkon was, rather than food, but it worked out either way.
Once Varkon had finished his bloody snack, and Nerius himself had some water, they were ready to move on. Nerius knew exactly what he wanted to work on next, but the wiurn's pride wouldn't appreciate it. But Varkon was staring at him like he was waiting for the next step, so Nerius just stated it, <I want to work on your flight next.>

[Varkon - Fly - 2]
Varkon narrowed his eyes at this, <I already know how to fly.> This was true, Nerius had entered him in a tournament in the past, and he'd taken to the skies during some of those fights. But that wasn't the issue.
<Yes, but, ah,> Nerius paused, how to put this, <Your takeoffs are.. inelegant.>
Varkon growled softly at this, looking quite offended, <I can fly just fine.>
Nerius sighed, before explaining, <It's not the flight that's the problem, it's getting there. Your takeoffs are unsteady, and it takes you a moment to correct into an even flight. It's your asymmetrical cybernetics, I suspect, and you have to correct for the uneven weight before you can fly properly. It's not an issue under normal circumstances, but even a few moments can make a major difference in battle.>
The cyborg was terribly unhappy about all this, but finally, grudgingly, agreed, <You.. are correct.> He paused, giving a grumpy huff, <What would you have me do?>

That part was simple enough, at least, <Practice your takeoffs until you can do so without having to spend so much time correcting.> After a moment he added, <I won't even have to throw anything at you.>
Varkon didn't appropriate the joke, and just grumbled <Fine.> Nerius had expected he wouldn't be happy about this part, which was why he'd decided not to start with it.
<I'll just put away my supplies so they don't get blown around, and we can begun.> Wiurn wingbeats were powerful, and he'd rather not have his training supplies knocked everywhere. He hadn't taken much out, so it didn't take long to stick everything back in the pack, and sling it over his shoulders.
Nerius also moved a fair distance away from the wiurn for the same reason, before instructing <Fly!> Varkon grumbled, his mood having not improved, but cooperated, beating his powerful wings as he leapt for the sky.

[Varkon - Fly - 4]
His early flight was as clunky as ever, and Nerius was paying close attention as the wiurn moved in early flight. Sure enough, the right wing had to beat harder for the same lift, and the left, more mechanized side, dipped down more at first. Within a few seconds he was able to correct his flight, but most wiurns wouldn't have to do that, and it put him at a disadvantage.
<There,> Nerius pointed out, <That's what I mean. Your right wing has to work more, and you dip to the left when taking off.>
<Is it really that serous of a matter?> Varkon still didn't appreciate something as basic as flight practice, and would have loved to move on to something more vicious.
<In a fight? Yes. Other wiurn will be faster than you,> Nerius wasn't about to sugar coat it at this point. He wasn't being rude, just blunt.
