The wyrm stares at your hand for a moment, waiting for a sudden movement. Nothing...? Then, it supposes you are acceptable, and rests its chin on your fingers.
[Congratulations! You have successfully tamed the wyrm!]

This marked the second Wyrm that she had successfully befriended. With that in mind, she needed to get it back to her kennel. She didn’t want to risk journeying with two mining familiars. They typically didn’t get along with each other. With that in mind, the three of them backtracked until Fanged could get the Wyrm out of the mines and back to her kennel. She hadn’t been too far in the tunnel considering she had dropped off the other Wyrm shortly before. She added this one to the collection as well. After parting with the Wyrm, she returned to the mines with Harper.
“Alright. Let’s see if we can finish this trip without having to drop another familiar off at home.”
She and Harper entered through a new tunnel now. Fanged hadn’t kept track of where they had been before so this was entirely unexplored territory for her now.

A pretty stone to mark your entrance.

A marquise gem was stood out near the entrance of the tunnel. Fanged didn’t think they were worth much, but she picked it up all the same. The one good thing about finding so many Wyrm was that she was able to take all of her treasures back to her kennel where they could be safely stored. Harper was pleased with the find and Fanged hoped that meant their upcoming journey would be lucky.
“Alright let’s see how much ground we can cover before another Wyrm ambushes us,” she joked.
Harper seemed to agree with her. The Karzik was more annoyed by the presence of other mining familiars than she was. The two of them were confident now. Their small expeditions had been helping to nurture the bond between them. Fanged could hardly believe that Harper had been found down here only a short while ago. They had bonded rather quickly.

The tunnel was dark and potentially full of terrors. It was a little unnerving having to rely on the flashlight to see, but it was inevitable in their current situation. Harper had no difficulty navigating. It was trickier for Fanged to move as easily. She didn’t have the benefit of echolocation even though her eyes weren’t the best. She held the flashlight steadily in front of her, testing to see how much of their path she could light. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as much as she would have liked.
“Guess we’ll be traveling pretty blindly. I should be used to that by now,” Fanged muttered underneath her breath.
Harper was content to continue onwards through the tunnel. Fanged might have been on edge, but the Karzik had full confidence in her own abilities. She had lived down here prior to partnering with Fanged. This was simply the environment she was used to.

For a moment, Fanged wondered what the optimal strategy for traveling through the tunnels was. She didn’t think going too fast would be ideal considering it was easy to miss a lot of gems by moving too quickly. However, when they went slowly there was the risk of lingering in one place for too long and missing out on treasure that way as well.
“Guess I’ll rely on you to set a decent pace. Not too fast but not too slow either. We have a lot of ground to cover.”
Harper was happy to oblige. She was a hard worker and content to search for even more treasure. From her experience, mining familiars seemed to be eager to find more gems and were always fine with being brought down into their natural habitat. With a job set out for them, Fanged and Harper had a goal to head towards.

Sometimes when Fanged found herself submerged in darkness, she couldn’t help but feel paranoid that someone was hidden in the shadows, watching her. It was due to the fact that she didn’t see particularly well in the dark. It was difficult for her to gauge whether there was actually someone there or not. She kept her attention focused on Harper. If the Karzik reacted to a strange presence, then it wouldn’t simply be her mind playing tricks on her. After a few moments of careful observation, she concluded that there wasn’t anything there.
“Either that or you’re simply stoic when it comes to potential danger triggers,” she muttered.
Harper continued forward with a sense of determination. Fanged wondered if she recognized the area they were in or if she was simply familiar with tunnels that were similar. It helped make her feel at ease to travel with a creature as experienced as Harper.

The tunnel branched off into a series of four paths. It would take a bit of investigating to determine which path was the ideal one to take. She didn’t know if she had the skills to determine such a thing, so she’d leave the choice part up to Harper. It didn’t take her long to deliberate. She didn’t even check all the tunnels before venturing into the one that turned to the right. Fanged didn’t mind following.
“This had better bring us some treasure,” she teased Harper.
The Karzik paid no mind to her words, instead opting to continue forward at a steady pace. Fanged took the opportunity to observe their surroundings. She noted the moss growing on the tunnel walls, a bit unusual but not really indicative of much. It simply meant that there was likely moisture prevalent in the tunnel. She followed Harper, her gaze fixed on the walls around them.

While Fanged’s eyes were glued to the walls, she actually managed to spot something stuck within them. Harper paused while Fanged went closer to investigate. The gem was one that she had found before but she couldn’t quite name it off of the top of her head. It wasn’t embedded deeply within the wall and was easy enough to pluck free.
“That’s a good start. I approve of your choice in tunnel,” she told Harper.
The Karzik appeared please with herself and kept going, an extra bounce in each step she took. Fanged followed her and the two set out in comfortable silence. The tunnel twisted in various directions. Fanged found herself losing track of which turns they were taking and as a result, was rather disoriented with which direction they had gone in. If the tunnel branched further, it would be quite difficult to find their way back through this path.

As they walked, Fanged noticed a variety of plants growing within the tunnels. Some were unexpected. For example, there were some strange purple coloured flowers that she couldn’t identify. Apparently, flowers could grow just fine within this one tunnel. The sight of wild plant growth was oddly reassuring. It meant that there was no radioactive presence within the tunnel, destroying the natural fauna that grew here.
“Of course, there is always the possibility of new growth in the wake of nuclear fallout,” she muttered.
Harper looked back expectantly at her and that’s when Fanged realized that her steps had grown sluggish as she had been distracted by the plants. She quickly adjusted her pace and Harper set off once again. She was eager to explore and Fanged wasn’t about to stop that enthusiasm.
“If I spot anything, I’ll be sure to let you know. You seem rather focused on moving ahead,” she teased Harper.

The further they went through the tunnel, the wider it became. Fanged wasn’t about to complain about this development. She felt confidence fill each step as she grew more comfortable within this tunnel. Harper was determined and led them diligently forward. As Fanged paid more attention to the plants that grew in the tunnel, she also noticed a variety of insects. Underneath the light from her flashlight, various flying critters were illuminated. Most of them were moths which Fanged found rather out of place in the small space. However, if moths were common in closets, it made sense that they would gather in a dark, cramped place like this as well. Harper stopped for a moment, snapping at a moth that flew too close to her face. Fanged didn’t blame her. The insects were growing in number and flew erratically. She had to swat at them as well to keep them away.

Fanged found herself growing distracted in thought. She kept her eyes focused on the beam of the flashlight, mindlessly lighting up the various areas of the ground as she walked. She found herself illuminating Harper’s tracks in the dirt and then following them rather than following the Karzik herself.
“Not very efficient but it’s the system I appear to be working with,” she murmured as she shook her head.
She raised the flashlight, taking a quick sweep around the walls of the tunnel, searching for any signs of gems. They seemed bare for now. She lowered the flashlight, though becoming more active in her searching. Having a task to focus made her mind clearer. She was less distracted. Harper paused and watched her carefully as Fanged was more active in searching the tunnel walls. The woman placed a hand against the surface of the left tunnel wall and walked forward.

Walking through the tunnel proved to be more of a workout than she expected. She didn’t consider herself to be the most unfit person, but she wasn’t in as great of shape as she would have liked. Not wanting to take a rest, Fanged pushed herself through her struggles. She kept her flashlight close to her. Harper would hopefully spot anything she missed, but Fanged liked to be successful in finding treasure by herself as well. It made her feel a little less useless.
“Just keep this pace and I’ll be fine,” she told Harper.
The Karzik likely could have managed a faster pace, but she kept steady in order to accommodate Fanged. The woman was grateful for the presence of her companion. Having a creature companion helped keep things from becoming too lonely. As they moved forward, the air in the tunnel steadily grew more humid. Fanged kept a lookout for any signs of water.

The humid, dense air of the tunnel is unyielding. With a bit of luck, the heat will even out soon.
[Nothing happens.]
