Ral approached Fanged, feeling a bit left out since all of her attention had been focused on Pachinko for the time being. She leaned down and stroked the top of his head. It felt a bit strange petting a creature made of gems, but she was steadily growing used to it. When he pulled away from her, Fanged decided to test out Pachinko’s name one final time just to make sure that he had learned it.
“Pachinko,” she said his name loudly.
Pachinko raised his head, this time making a bit of a show of swinging his head to look at her with confidence. Fanged found herself smiling in response to him showing off. She clicked her tongue at him and leaned close to give him a light pat on the top of his head with one finger. Having taught the Izer his name seemed like enough training for now. He should be a bit more familiar with being underground and she wanted to take him around to explore for a while. She held out her arm, offering it for him to climb up if he wanted to. Instead, he flew to her shoulder and perched up there. Fanged switched her attention to Ral.

Fanged made sure to keep the three of them in a tunnel that was spacious enough to prevent Pachinko from outright panicking at the unfamiliar territory. Ral was at complete ease as they traveled through the tunnel. The woman wondered for a moment if she needed to teach Pachinko to be more at ease in small spaces, but for now she’d play things by ear for a bit. The tunnel itself was rather unremarkable as far as mining tunnels went. Ral stopped and checked under every rock, making their progress a bit slow going. Fanged didn’t mind though. It allowed Pachinko extra time to adjust to the area.
Fanged did a quick check to ensure that she had all of her tools with her. Ral watched her intently, not quite sure what all of the items the woman had brought were meant to be used for. Fanged gave Pachinko a quick pet on the head as she began to walk forward. Ral darted out ahead of them. The small dragon was eager to get going. He focused intently on the path ahead of them, doing a quick scan to see if there was any obvious gems that they could stop and grab.

Pachinko remained perched on her shoulder, on alert but remaining close for now. Ral stopped suddenly. He leaned up and began to paw at something that was contained within the wall of the tunnel. Fanged quickly joined him, wondering what had caught his attention. To her delight, there were a couple of gems embedded within the wall. Fanged immediately turned to her tools, moving to select the right one to extract the gems in one piece. She decided to start with her brush and tweezers set. If the gems proved to be a little more difficult to extract than that, she could always switch to another tool.
“Alright, let’s see how well this works,” she remarked.
She moved close to the wall, aware that Ral and Pachinko were both intently focused on her actions. She used her tools to carefully extract the two gems from the wall. She didn’t quite know how to identify them, but that was an issue for later. For now, she placed her gems carefully away. When that was finished, she also placed her tools away. Feeling a bit more assured with herself, Fanged followed Ral as the emerald dragon started walking further into the tunnel once again.

She felt better now that they had found some treasure. It was a great incentive to continue onwards. Ral trotted forward, his head lowered as he sniffed around the ground for any further signs of gems. Pachinko snuggled in close to Fanged, watching warily as they travelled further underground. She would properly teach Pachinko how to remain comfortable in the tunnels, but she wanted to do a bit of exploring first. They needed to build up the bond between the two of them before he was truly comfortable with her and trusted her judgement. She glanced at Ral, keeping track of where the mining familiar moved to.
The familiar glanced back at her, tracking her location as well before dashing forward. He moved swiftly to check under a variety of rocks. He was thorough, but his work ethic also had a playful edge to it. Fanged appreciated that. It created an atmosphere where she didn’t feel so pressured to find gems. She felt like it was fine if she could build bonds with both of her pets and maybe do some more training. If they found more treasure, that would make their trip even more worthwhile, but she didn’t want that to be the sole purpose.

Once they stepped into a wider cavern, Pachinko relaxed and was even comfortable enough to explore on his own. He flew off of Fanged’s shoulder and began to check around the area. The Izer moved gracefully and his feathers dazzled even in the low light in the underground. She felt better about her decision to bring Pachinko underground. It wasn’t exactly an Izer’s natural habitat, but getting him acclimated to it would make him much more valuable as a messenger. These weren’t skills that could be taught easily and Fanged was ready to take up that challenge.
“Alright, how about we take a look around and explore this area before we pick a smaller tunnel to head down,” she planned out loud.
Ral seemed content to take charge on the exploring front. He crawled forward, his head lowered and his front claws checking eagerly for any gems hidden in every crevice that he could spot. Fanged watched him with interest, never having had a creature go so hard at finding gems in the mines before. She liked this new tactic and mentally took notes on replicating it in the future. Pachinko flew back over to her, checking to see what Fanged was doing.

Fanged had not expected them to bump into any local wildlife so soon. Pachinko was the first of the trio to spot the wild gem drake. He took perch back on Fanged’s shoulder and turned his head for a better look at the creature. Fanged followed his gaze, curious what had caught his attention. The small, pink drake was certainly a surprise! Ral was too distracted to pay the wild drake much focus. He was currently laying down with his front claws outstretched, trying to wedge himself into a small space. With any luck, he had spotted some form of treasure that he was busy trying to retrieve.
“Well at least he’s having fun. Why don’t we try to make friends?” she mused to Pachinko.
Pachinko appeared content enough to follow Fanged’s lead. The woman greeted the wild creature with a brief greeting as she tried to catch its attention. She didn’t want to startle it too badly. Pachinko leaned forward, hopping down from Fanged’s shoulder until he was perched on the end of her arm. Not quite sure what he was doing, Fanged lowered her body until she was kneeling against the dirt. Now if Pachinko wanted to hop down, he was able to. For now, he remained on her arm but chirped a greeting to the new creature as well.

The drake turns its head to look at you, and initially appears like it will scrabble away. However, the interesting bird holds its attention. It’s never seen anything like it!

The Drake didn’t appear to like her much. It stared at her briefly and looked as though it were about to flee. However, it caught sight of Pachinko and appeared intrigued enough by the Izer to stick around for a while. Pachinko hopped down from her arm onto the ground. It appeared that the Izer was equally interested in the drake familiar. He hopped closer, tilting his head to the side as he got a closer look at the creature. Was it a gem or a creature? Pachinko couldn’t quite tell. He looked back over at Ral, recognizing that they were rather similar to one another.
“Well, you two appear to be baffled by one another,” Fanged teased Pachinko.
The Izer fluttered his wings, hardly able to contain his excitement at this new creature. Fanged made sure to remain close to Pachinko, just in case the drake wasn’t appreciative of his excitement. Ral wriggled out from the crevice that he had managed to squeeze himself into. He held a large rock within his mouth and was ready to find out what all the commotion was. He looked up at Fanged and brought the rock over to her, dropping it at her feet.

The drake is quite taken with the izer! Whether or not it’s a good idea to stick around, it isn’t sure... but for now, it likes the look of you.
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creature!]

The wild drake and Pachinko were fast to make friends. Once they had, Fanged quickly returned to her kennel to drop the drake off at home once it agreed to go with her. She arrived back in the mines with Pachinko and Ral ready to resume their journey. She found herself in the same open cavern which was rather close to the entrance. Ral was ecstatic to continue his search for gems and Pachinko was fine to perch on her shoulder as the woman walked through the space. Ral took a more meandering path compared to Fanged. He stopped frequently to investigate any object or area that caught his attention.
They settled into a routine quite quickly. Pachinko sat perched on her shoulder while Ral scuffled around close to her feet. The woman watched as the emerald dragon intently sniffed at the ground. He reminded her of a predator hunting down prey, but in this case the prey was the treasure hidden away within the mines. The large cavern was wide enough to spend some considerable time scouring before they’d even come close to exploring it all. Fanged was content to stay in here a while and allow Pachinko the opportunity to spend time in the open space.

Pachinko was fine when he had room to stretch his wings, but Fanged was worried about how he’d react if they moved into a smaller tunnel. She would need to train him not to be afraid of the smaller spaces. She decided that it was best to do that sooner rather than later. The moment she spotted a small but safe tunnel, then she would begin their training. Ral was easy enough to keep entertained. She supposed that the small dragon had lived down here for so long that being back wasn’t at all an issue for him.
“But this isn’t your natural environment,” she remarked to Pachinko.
She felt a bit bad bringing a pet down to the mines that hadn’t been created to thrive down here. However, she would do everything in her power to prepare him for the potential dangers that lurked down here in the darkness. She moved closer to Ral, feeling a bit more secure when the dragon was close to her. She leaned down and gave him a quick pat on the top of the head. He leaned into her touch and she couldn’t help but think how odd it felt to touch a creature made of gems.

When Ral had enough pets, he pulled away from her and went back to exploring. She kept an eye on him, but she also allowed him to have the independence he needed to do his own thing. Pachinko flew off of his perch, taking the time to sweep around the center of the cavern. His feathers glowed underneath the brief sparkle of sunlight that draped in from cracks located above them. When they decided to descend further into the mines, she doubted they would see any sunlight after that. Fanged took the time to enjoy herself. She might be one to enjoy cooler weather, but she still appreciated sunlight like most other people did.
“Say goodbye to the sun, we won’t be seeing it for quite a while,” she remarked.
Pachinko flew up into the small beams that filtered through. He circled twice before flying back down to Fanged and landing on her right shoulder. She winced slightly as he dug in his talons to secure himself on his perch. She gave him a quick scratch on the top of the head before she moved to check in on what Ral was doing. The emerald dragon had made his way across the cavern.
