The garden would actually be pretty; if not for the time of year. It was currently surrounded by all kinds of trees that kind of needed to die back in order for Morgan to be able to get anything growing 'right' in the garden. It was honestly a little unkempt- well, okay, a lot unkempt. However, the garden plant creatures seem to be feeling pretty okay in the increased foliage and natural hiding places. Morgan would have to keep up with that; keep those hiding places and such so that they all felt comfortable enough to produce berries when they were in season. Morgan had a lot to think about when designing this place; and perhaps it was good that they were here and could actually get a feel of the place and think about it during this slow time, waiting for this pine dude to drop his berries. It was going to take a long while.

At the very least, the pine... Thing was really calm and not one to try to attack Morgan. That would suck; Morgan wasn't looking forward to trying to get the Dragonoak Muninn to drop his acorns. Morgan heard it was in the hotter part of the year though, and it was gonna suck. Morgan did not like the hotter part of the year, nor the colder part of the year for that matter. It was a shame that the world didn't stay about autumn weather forever, that was Morgan's favorite. They watched the pine... thing Matsuba as he stood on the other side of the brook, and he hadn't really moved an inch. Barely a flickering about of his tail, and that was that. The human couldn't imagine how he stood so stark still for so long when he perhaps wasn't truly a bipedal being. It was so odd, just thinking about it!

Morgan was not typically one to have a 'staring contest' with any animal, but they were sure that whenever they wound up doing that the first time that it would be with a catlike beast, something feline, not a... Pine dood. Or elf, or king, or whatever else silly thing they call these fellows. Morgan was, however, still not sure about leaping over the little brooklet and try to get at the berries that were clearly visible over there beneath the creature's tail tip. Yeah... Morgan wondered if he would ever get used to them enough to allow them to be safely removed. Morgan wondered if it would simply be easier to actually just... Trap the thing and take all of the berries. Morgan had no idea, but it would probably lessen the crop due to stress or perhaps even ruin the berries. That would suck, and it wasn't something Morgan wanted to test.

These things were certainly not easy to find, regardless of what they were called. To Morgan's knowledge, there would never be another time that they would be allowed to buy another from The Herbologist's Delight, so they better not mess this one up. It would be a shame to have to spend a whole ton extra trying to source one from someone else or something of that nature. Matsuba suddenly shifted his weight- and even that was a super slow shift and not anything too speedy like a regular person would have been able to do- definitely belying that this creature may not be one-hundred percent a bipedal being. It was so weird, being scared to actually go do any checking on something that made Morgan have questions and want answers, but they best not make this too quick. The poor critter may not ever get over Morgan stressing him out.

So Morgan was going to have to force theirself not to ruin this by pushing it too soon. However, at the very least the creature would eventually have that built in psycho-social bond that all labs-created critters tended to have. Morgan would have to keep an eye out for the signs. Morgan did, however, feel that the critter might not produce a whole lot of signs, unlike some of Morgan's other critters. He was already back to standing and staring endlessly. It was odd to watch such a vaguely humanoid looking thing standing so still and staring into infinity, even if it was leaned over on top of a stick. Heck, in fact that made it more creepy; it was like watching a little old fellow and was just disturbing and difficult to really comprehend that yes, this thing was an animal, and not a little man wearing pine needles or something.

Well, that was certainly a weird thought. Morgan frowned and wondered if it was just super boredom that was causing these sorts of uncanny valley type feelings. Certainly was an icky, creepy feeling, kinda haunted maybe? Like clowns. Morgan wasn't scared of them per say, and understood that they were just people in costumes doing a job, but there was always something not quite 'right' about clowns in Morgan's head. Shuddering, Morgan blinked quickly, trying to keep their eyes from being glazed over from having stared at the creature for so long. Morgan took off their eye glasses and then began rubbing the eyes carefully. It was a bad habit, they had been trying not to do it for a while, but sometimes it just felt like a type of film went over their eyes. When they finally felt 'right', they replaced their glasses and glanced up again. Where did he go?

It didn't take long for Morgan to absolutely have a shock to their system. They jolted up, and glanced around everywhere. Matsuba had disappeared! It hadn't been longer than perhaps twenty seconds that Morgan was rubbing their eyes ( disgusting habit; I need to stop doing that...) and already the strange creature that had been moving so slowly before had moved off. Morgan felt that distinct 'being watched' feeling however, so they couldn't help but furrow their brow and look around worriedly. They knew that he was somewhere, close, and watching them, but they weren't sure how to figure out where he had gone. Morgan knew that the first thing they needed to do, however, was cross the brook and look to see if he had dropped any berries or anything of that nature. The human leapt over the brook immediately and quickly, and glanced at the ground curiously; hoping that there was a set of berries there perhaps? [20]

Morgan had probably been a little... What was it? Jumping the gun? Shark? Wave? Morgan wasn't sure what the saying was. However, they had certainly counted their COD before they hatched when it had come to those berries. Matsuba was being really staunch with those berries, it would seem, since once Morgan had leapt across the brook they had not really seen those three trichromatic berries they wanted so badly. "Dang." Morgan said, snapping. "I was hoping he would have dropped at least one set... D-dang thing." They thought for a moment, and mumbled to theirself. "Well, then again, I haven't even seen if he had berries even..." Morgan said again. It was a calm day today, if a little too cool for Morgan. Perhaps it wasn't cool enough for Matsuba, though? It was a real shame. Where was he, anyway? Morgan could tell that he was around nearby.

The biggest problem is that Morgan really didn't want to be out here whenever the snow was on the ground. Poor Matsuba would probably be a lot more comfortable and would most likely very much enjoy some snow. It was a real right mess to be in, in all honesty. Matsuba needed to drop those berries, and Morgan wanted to have a right lot of them. A bunch of sets; an infinite number of sets. But it was going to take work, and years. Morgan squinted. Were they willing to put in the work for something that may otherwise not actually be a good venture? What if he wound up being barren? Morgan had heard that pine... king things tended to be more willing to drop berries for owners that they liked, and of course those with green thumbs. Morgan may not have had a naturally green thumb but they had been trained well enough, right?

Surely Morgan hadn't taken all of those botany classes for nothing... Well, they still didn't have the natural ease of being around plant creatures that other had, though it was an absolute travesty for Morgan to admit that. Cursing their poor luck as they made absolutely sure that there were no multicolored berries around, Morgan silently glanced around, looking to see if there was anything about. Matsuba should be really easy to find, with his barky body and piney-needly mess... Wait; that made perfect sense. That was why he was standing in front of this small copse of pine trees, right? Morgan silently peered into the copse, trying to figure out if he was just there, standing at the line of trees, or if Morgan was going to have to walk between them and figure out where he was more deeply within the copse of trees. It would be a shame to waste time.

That could almost be Morgan's motto of sorts; not wanting to waste time. But they seemed to do a whole lot of time wasting regardless of what they actually wanted to do. They needed to get more time in doing things that they really needed to do; however they always seemed to be stuck right here, doing this thing they always did. What was 'this thing'? Well, everything really. They couldn't get through enough time to really do anything about it. Getting through a goal quickly always made them feel better, regardless of what the goal was. It was just quicker to do a lot of little small things instead of one big thing, even if the big thing was more important. So this was the thing they were currently wasting time doing, even if they had a ton of other things to do: chasing a ping king dude around the garden to try to get berries that never came.

Morgan was pretty bad on it for now, however the pine king had to be located, regardless of what they wanted or needed to do. They wanted to get at least one set of berries before going home today, in fact. That was the one thing that Morgan wanted to do regardless, and heck, when he started to drop berries- with just one set- would he drop the others? That was assuming that he could drop berries at all. It was a dilemma at best; it could be not cold enough, male pine king doods could not produce berries at all, or perhaps, just perhaps, the creature was barren for other reasons. Morgan didn't really know because they had completely failed to actually look to see if the pine king had even had berries. Were they kept on the tail? Morgan thought so; right at the tip, right? Morgan entered the copse of trees, and unbeknownst to theirself, passed right next to a silent Matsuba.

Though the King might prove evasive thus far, the rest of the garden remains quite bountiful...

Morgan knew that they probably should have waited this go around in order to have had the garden supplies very much first; but the idea of making sure that the pine king dood was used to Morgan enough to eventually get some berries. And heck, if he dropped some before all of their garden supplies were in, the more the merrier! Morgan would continue to work at this regardless of how much time they had for other things, they were determined. Absolutely determined, they thought. However, they were running up on deadlines for certain projects soon- always something it would seem, no rest. One thing right after another and all Morgan really wanted was rest. They thought about this as they searched around behind the first few trees around them. Little did Morgan know, but Matsuba moved out from a tree nearby, and back behind yet another of them so that Morgan could see it.
