She wanted fossils of course so she could get one of those adorable little fossil creatures that she had seen running around the labs as of late. There wasn’t a huge amount of them out there, but there was enough that Fiera wanted to hop on the trend while it was… well, trending. Unfortunately, that meant that most places Fiera had been to were outright cleaned out of fossils, and she had had a lot of trouble finding her own as of late. All of her recent mining expeditions had come up empty handed, and she had resorted to coming to her gardens just to have a break from the stale air, dark surroundings, and wet environment. She was sure her luck would change soon, but there was only so many times a month she could muster the willpower to get absolutely filthy. Seriously, her tail took forever to brush.

The other use for her plants was, of course, the pachee pollen project. Now THAT had proven to be a lot more fun to interact with. Who knew genetic researching would have so much relevance to her every day life? If there was one thing Fiera loved, it was breeding pachee. It was always an absolute blast to mash them together (sometimes with an aquaintance’s pachee to keep the bloodlines clean, one could never be too careful) and see what sort of beautiful, colorful offspring resulted. The results were sometimes hit and miss, but it was so quick and easy to do that the humanish could never stay away for long. Besides, there were so many new and clever varieties out and about lately that she just couldn’t help herself. With so many options for breedings nowadays, it felt like she was only just barely staying ahead of the curve.

The pachee pollen project was a great resource for her breeding projects, however. She had plenty of her own pachee, customs, offspring, so on and so forth, but the PPP was a great way to get pachee that she… wasn’t exactly expecting. All she had to do was turn in some plants she collected from her gardens, and a couple weeks later they’d hand her a fresh and shiny new male for her troubles. Sometimes they were rather simple, sometimes they had a few colors, markings, or mutations she hadn’t managed to acquire yet, and sometimes they were absolutely gorgeous creatures that she couldn’t wait to breed. It was all luck of the draw! Part of that was what made it so enticing for her. The other part was that sometimes she got pachee that she would never think to breed on her own, and yet once she had them…

She had a billion ideas on what to do with them! She hadn’t been disappointed by the project yet, that was for sure, and she was more than happy to keep contributing plants to it. Speaking of, she kept finding more and more around her, hidden beneath branches or tucked in near the roots of the trees, She wasn’t expecting to find too many, and yet here they were. Perhaps spring was coming on faster than she expected. That would certainly explain the new greenery around here, though she couldn’t help but note that a lot of these herbs she was finding were still winter season plants. They might be growing well right now, but they’d probably be crowded out by the spring plants soon enough until winter rolled around once more. All the reason she should try and grab as many as possible now she thought as she plucked up another couple of flowers.

Of course, her branch gathering was going well now too. She had cleared more than half of the grove by this point, despite its size, creating a sizeable pile of sticks on the other side of the fence. In fact, she had nearly cleared the fence now by this point, only having to set sticks on the top instead of dumping them off the side and letting gravity take care of the rest. Donner seemed more interested in the cleared areas as well now that the grove wasn’t stabbing his feet nearly as much when he tried walking across it. As she worked she found that her snowtracker seeker moved from his spot near the front gate to a clearing closer to the center, curling up in a beam of weak winter sunlight while chewing contentedly on his stick. Fiera couldn’t help but crack a smile- it was nice to see Donnera acting… well, nice for once.

He HAD been getting more personable with Fiera as of late, which was a relief for her. It wasn’t much, but he certainly wasn’t the roiling ball of loathing that she had first met all those months ago. He followed her commands more often than not (which was a relief when she had to take him places- she didn’t have to pretend that he could behave at the gym anymore!) and he didn’t seem to completely hate her anymore. She doubted he would ever show her true affection, however. He wasn’t a houluh, after all. Seeker weren’t known for their grand senses of loyalty or defense of their owners. Instead, her and Donner’s relationship was more of a.. Tenuous partnership, a begrudging respect for each other. She needed him to win a competition, and he needed her so he could keep getting fed. There was a transaction there, is what Fiera was saying.

Even if they weren’t all buddy buddy however, Fiera couldn’t say she minded their current relationship. It worked out well for both of them, and it didn’t stress either of them out too much. They could just chill out. That’s what Donner was doing now after all, ignoring Fiera’s presence and enjoying the environment she had placed him in. And in return, Fiera could trust that he wouldn’t get into TOO much trouble while she tried to work. And working she was- the branch pile was nearing her chin now, and she was most of the way done with cleaning up the branches. After this, she would have to work on the rocks and garbage. Thankfully, there was a lot less of that than the wood, so even though the rocks were heavier and more unwieldy than branches, she would be over and done with them a lot faster than her current task.

For now though, she kept working on the branches. She smiled with satisfaction as she finally reached the opposite side of the fence from where she started, gathering up the last couple of twigs from alongside it, ones that had likely been washed there by the melting snow. With those out of the way, she was finally done with the branches! She sighed with relief as she dumped the last scraps of them over the side of the fence. There would be quite a lot for the garbage men to take away, but thankfully that wasn’t her problem anymore. She could wash her hands of it… once she managed to find a sink. Ick. She was going to actually try to AVOID looking at her hands for the time being, she thought. It would be a lot better for her sense of hygiene and peace of mind, that was for sure.

With the branches out of the way now, it was time for the rocks and garbage. Thankfully, there was a lot less of that and what there was was a lot easier for Fiera to see. With the sticks and branches, Fiera had to sit there and muse over each one for a moment to figure out whether or not it was worth even picking up, or if she should leave it there to rot. With the rocks it was a lot easier. If you see a rock? You pick it up. Bam, easy, over and done. They were harder to hold though, with their awkward shapes and tendency to not grab onto each other. That meant that Fiera could only grab a couple at a time, requiring her to bend over more and make more trips back and forth between the spot she was working on and the pile she was building.

It wasn't an impressive pile by any means, and it sat right next to the sticks she had already collected. It wasn't going to reach the same height as the branch pile any time soon either. The rocks tended to nestle a lot more closely together, so she doubted there were even enough rocks in the grove to make up even half of the stick pile. Still, she was sure the garbage men would still notice it. She dropped another few rocks on top of it, her eyes still instinctually scanning them. She spent enough time down in the mines that she low key checked every single rock for potential valuable ores and gems now, even if she knew on a logical level that it was complete garbage that had been dumped in her garden by accident. At least by this point her eye was sharp enough to disregard them just as quickly.

Still, that made her thoughts wander to how Donner would fare down in the mines. Would he adapt to them well, or would he freak out as some of her less acclimated pets had? He wasn't easily intimidated like a lot of her critters, but he wasn't from a species designed to navigate narrow tunnels and blind turns either. Frankly, the echoing noises would probably stress him out, being unable to tell what the sounds were or where they were coming from for sure. He would also be pretty hot down there, now that she thought of it. Once you got deep enough it could get pretty cool again, but in most tunnels the constant work meant constant heat coming through the rock, and snowtracker seekers were well known for their deep, shaggy pelts. Then again, he wouldn't exactly be working WITH Fiera, just sort of following along and keeping her company.

On the other hand though, the sudden turns and inability to see well meant that he'd probably be pretty on edge- and thus willing to fight anything that came at him. Fiera didn't want to admit it as she enjoyed her "tough girl" persona, but she would feel absolutely terrible if her seeker tore apart one of the little grub things or gemmorns that lived down there under the earth, and she couldn't imagine his teeth doing anything to a gem wyrm or dragon other than skittering across their hard surfaces... which would, of course, immediately scare them off. Which was a shame- usually she was quite into collecting gem dragons and wyrms, and was always happy to try and tame them when she came across them. So unless she wanted her seeker to scare off the larger tunnel worms, there probably wouldn't be too much use to bringing him down there.

Not to mention if Fiera got dirty easily while traipsing around in the dark... well... she could easily imagine Donner getting even dirtier even more easily. Frankly, it sounded like a nightmare trying to clean him off again after that. No, sticking to the gardens and the mansion was probably best for him. Maybe fishing. Though, he wasn't greatly adapted for fishing either. His long fur was definitely a detriment to him in that regard, weighing him down. If he got wet, chances are it would take him hours to dry off again and he'd likely be too heavy to move around properly. The downsides of thick fur. She hadn't heard anything about seeker being good swimmers either- she wasn't entirely sure if he COULD swim, all things considered, and she wasn't about to dump him in a lake so she could find out. She could do that after the tournament was over.

For now though, she should probably focus on the task at hand. She had nearly finished clearing out all the rocks as well, with only a few smaller ones left that she had to comb through the garden to see and grab. She had been picking up trash as she went as well, but thankfully there wasn’t nearly as much of that. Everything she had found had been things like paper and carbonated packing, candy wrappers, chip bags and shopping bags. All light, fluttery stuff that had likely been blown in on the breeze instead of being left here on purpose. That would have been a different issue, considering that this garden was definitely NOT open to the public. But no, she was fine. She snatched another piece of garbage off the ground, putting it in the crook of her arm along with some rough pebbles she had picked up.
