Finally, her veggie patch came into view. It was... admittedly, pretty messy. She could see all of her crops clearly, the ones she had planted earlier in the year, and while they were all growing well it was clear that it needed weeding. Bits of grass and other leafs swirled around the edges of each patch of fruits and veggies, threatening to choke out the plants that Fiera DID want growing there. Right off the bat though, something nice caught Fiera's eye- a round, juicy pepper. "Oh, you're done growing already, huh?" She said, handling it gently, testing it for firmness. It felt pretty good- not too firm, but didn't have the distinct squish of rot. Oasis trotted up to sniff at it before pausing and sneezing loudly. She whined and pawed at her nose while Fiera giggled. "Yeah, I don't think you would like eating this." She said with a slight chuckle.

"Peppers aren't for pups." Fiera said, patting Oasis on the head. She wasn't sure if spicy foods like this were POISONOUS to houluh, but she certainly wasn't going to take the risk. Luckily, Oasis didn't seem interested at all now, shoving her nose in a nearby patch of grass that Fiera would have to pull up. The humanish glanced back at the pepper plant. This pepper was indeed all alone on its vine. The others that were growing were nowhere near done yet, still miniscule and green. Fiera could barely pick them out from the background carpet of green that was her garden. The one she was holding, bright red and juicy, must have been the first one grown on the plant. "Hm, well. More for me now!" She said, plucking it off with little fanfare. She could use it to cook up something nice for dinner tonight, after a bit of prep.

She had to admit, the fruits, herbs, and vegetables here in the lab had a... weird taste to them that she couldn't quite place. She wasn't sure what it was exactly, but they didn't taste quite as rich or flavorful as the foods she ate back home. Perhaps it was nostalgia, or perhaps it was something about the fertilizers that they used to nurture the plants here. She couldn't really be sure, but at the end of the day it meant that the plants she grew herself were far more fit to eat (for her at least) than anything she bought out of the store. Fiera could only supplement her own diet with what she grew in the gardens, but it was nice to at least try and become self sufficient, if just so she could get that weird platicky flavor off of her tongue and out of her mouth.

Some days, Fiera wondered if the labs did just as many experiments on the people that lived here as much as the animals. She wouldn't really put it past them. She had seen so much of the creatures that lived here and were built by those who worked here, strange and occasionally painful looking facsimiles of flesh and technology. Their creation was no doubt expensive though, so they invited people in to boost the area's economy. But while they were here... why not do some social experiments as well? See how they react when you put forward particular laws. Or why not try out some new chemicals? See if they were carcinogenic after all. Fiera loathed the idea of being a lab rat, but as it stood she had managed to build a bit of a platform for herself since coming here... and she quietly didn't admit that she had nowhere else to go.

Still, her garden veggies tasted plenty good, so she'd just stick with those for now. Without further ado, Fiera unzipped her bag again and slipped the pepper in there, letting it fall down to the bottom. She didn't usually bump her bag around too much, so it should be fine until she got home. Moving on, she took another glance through her garden. She spotted some grass- or was it grass? It had a strange iridescence to it, and Fiera realized that it was a type of grass that usually went for a pretty high price on the general market. It had managed to grow in her garden as just an everyday weed however, no doubt giving relevance to the phrase "life finds a way". Needless to say, Fiera immediately pulled it up and stuffed it in her bag as well. A weed was a weed, but she would happily take a valuable weed.

After that, Fiera glanced back at the grass surrounding her vegetables. Sure enough, there was still plenty to be "harvested". Most of this grass was completely useless to her, but some people would be willing to accept it as hay for their large herbivores if she played her cards right. It looked pretty healthy to her, after all. It was green, but brittle, easily broken off at the base before the roots were ripped up. The humanish set her backpack down, taking out two plastic bags- a white one for the "harvest", which she had already put a bit of that iridescent grass into, and another black one for the "garbage"- the roots and dross that she managed to yank out. She set them both on the ground, letting Oasis sniff around them while watching out to make sure that the houluh didn't chew on them or eat something out of them.

Once her houluh seemed good and situated however, Fiera nodded and started getting ready to pull up grass. She tied her houluh's leash to a nearby fence post. That way, she could keep sniffing around and get to know the area more while Fiera settled down to work. And work she did. The humanish sat down next to that patch of grass, plucking a nice green pepper off of another vine and pushing it into her bag. She was getting a few fruits and veggies out of her garden, but not as much as she would like. She tried to quash that disappointment though- harvesting wasn't her goal for the day, weeding and maintenance was... even if weeding and maintenance didn't feed her belly. "Stupid gardens..." Fiera grumbled to Oasis and herself as she began snapping off bits of grass and sorting it out into the bags she had set out.

"Why do they have to be all this work. How do people even do this, for like. A living. I have to pull up all these dumb grasses-" She said, emphasizing her words with a particularly violent uprooting before tossing the resulting clump into her garbage bag. "And for what? A few fruits and veggies? Not enough to even last me through the winter- I'd need a more industrial farm for that." She paused for a moment, setting some more grass and weeds aside. "...And I refuse to hire people." She huffed, thinking about how that would be an even bigger drain on her finances. She was no fool- hiring someone was enough to make her hobby a business and she had enough businesses going on right now. Her garden was supposed to be an escape from all of that, something to let her let some steam off on a mindless hobby.

Speaking of businesses, she certainly had enough on her plate in regards to that right now. She had just started a venture with Jack, that admittedly... they hadn't thought about as much as they should have before starting it. The Golden Lotine Resort was something the labs definitely needed- a place to have a damn VACATION already. The lands outside of the labs were savage and terrible, and most people barely survived their trips here to the city. Frankly, it was a wonder that the city had any citizens at all, considering how hard it was to get here. And yet, business was booming, people surged left and right, and everyone seemed incredibly stressed out. Jack and Fiera were definitely up there at the top. Fiera had her growing but exhausting political career, and Jack... did... something, presumably. Fiera hadn't really bothered asking, but she had to have SOME job.

So yeah, anyway. Enough about Jack, Fiera mused through her internal monologue as she ripped clumps of weeds out of the ground. It helped to think about random things while she weeded her garden- it made the work go faster. So Fiera and Jack had been quite stressed, so the answer was obvious- build a hotel right here in the city proper! Not to mention it would work as a fantastic waypoint for newcomers to the city, where they could stay (and Fiera could, perhaps, squeeze them for money) before they got settled into a house or apartment further in. For anyone who already lived there however, it had lovely romantic boat tours and hot springs perfect for soaking in. Top it off, they had a lovely suite of lotine attendants to add that extra unique flair. Indeed, the place was a paradise for anyone looking for some relief from every day life.

...Or it would be, if they could get it up and running. As it turns out, gorgeous lotine attendants were nice in theory, but it meant a LOT of training for the otherwise wild creatures. Sure they were sapient, but you had to get them to the point of understanding language, and then employee training from there, figuring out how to pay them... the list went on and on. Sure she and Jack had ENOUGH, but getting enough of them trained up was going to take forever. On the bright side, at least the resort wasn't finished yet... though it WAS costing them both a ton of credits to get it up. Fiera sighed- it had better pay for itself, because she was starting to get tired of paying for it already. At least it was getting closer to done, and she could see that beautiful place in her mind's eye.

Glancing around at her garden, Fiera realized she couldn't see any more peppers to collect... but at least her grass harvesting was going well. Oh well. She couldn't expect an endless harvest, could she. With so much work to be done though, she just let herself slip into her little reverie once more. She could see it now, the finely polished marble floors. The gold lining everything. The shining lights on the ceiling. Well, provided that Jack agreed with her decoration notes... and she would. Eventually. She would make the other woman come around, one way or another. Fiera was a politician for a reason- she was a VERY persuasive person sometimes, and persistent at that. Fiera was one of those people where if she truly wanted something, she would get it, if just by nothering someone until they agreed. So to put it simply, the resort was getting decorated PRECISELY as she wanted it to be.
