Her and Desiree's respective piles soon grew greatly in size however, and more and more of the flower bed revealed freshly turned soil. Desiree was really getting into the rhythm, and seemed to have set up a little system, the mechanics of which Fiera wasn't quite sure of, but it definitely seemed to make the haraichu happy. Every so often, Fiera would get up to scoop Desiree's pile and add it to the main one in the center before moving back to her own patch. Fiera had moved well over a dozen feet from the front gate by this point, and by the time she reached two dozen she would be done, as the flower patch ended and the path curved off in different directions to explore other places in the garden. On the other side of the gravel path, Desiree had managed to clear about four feet of plants.

Which was impressive, given her size. Sure enough she was hustling along, almost forgetting that her owner was even there. Fiera left her to it, and kept up with her own weeding. She ripped up a particularly large plant and found something... interesting caught in the roots. She plucked it out, wrestling it from the roots grip and brushing off the dirt before tossing the plant itself aside. It was a strange stone, crystalline in structure. She recalled finding this sort of thing in the mines sometimes, but she had never found anything like that so close to the surface. She turned it over in her hands. It was sharp to the touch, and a dull blue color, with rougher rock at its base. Perhaps not the prettiest or most valuable thing in the world, but she would still take it. It might be valuable to someone out there, after all.

She shuffled around in that spot again, and found a second crystal as well. Score! Fiera picked them both up and walked over to her bag, passing Desiree on the way. "You're doing great, Desiree! It looks wonderful! Keep up the good work!" She chirped at her haraichu as she walked. Desiree only gave a small hum of agreement in reply, clearly lost in her own work as Fiera passed. She grabbed a single blade of grass and deposited it over the edge of the metal divider, apparently very exacting in her work. Fiera smiled with amusement before she crouched down and opened her bag where she left it, depositing the two crystals. They were the only things she had found so far, unless she was counting two odd looking blue seeds that were mixed in with the soil. Those were probably just left over seeds from last season, though.

Once the bag was zipped up and secure again, Fiera ambled back over to that patch of dirt. She dug around as much as she could without destroying the bed, but alas, she couldn't find any more of those odd crystals lying about. What a shame- she was sure she could find a use for them. At the very least, she could swap them for something else at the Curious Collections. But at the same time, she was eager to see what other fruits of the garden she could find, so to speak. So she kept weeding, pulling up plant after plant. After some time, she got into a real rhythm, pulling and plucking to some internal beat and losing track of the time. She supposed that that was the same state Desiree was in when she had passed by her, though that thought floated away as quickly as it had come.

What IS that? On a closer inspection, it is a really weird looking leaf that has managed to get wrapped around the stalk of a nearby plant...

Fiera glanced at each of the plants that passed through her hands and if she was being honest, none of them were particularly interesting. It was just one brownish grey blob pulled up after another. She didn't know her plants well, so she couldn't really speak about any of them except for 'it's a plant'. Even flowers were more beautiful patches of color and shape, and she didn't have any real knowledge or appreciation of the complex biology behind them. It was more about what she could find to take home with her that she was interested in on a more fundamental level. One plant she found almost looked interesting, but she soon found that it was a more normal weed that a second one had managed to wrap itself around. How disappointing. With a slight huff she tossed it to the side and looked up to further her work.

As it turned out though, there wasn't a lot left to do. With the exception of maybe a foot and a half of soil, she had pretty much completely cleared her side of the flower bed. She gave a small 'hm' of approval and wrapped up her work, finishing weeding the remainder of her side of the path. Then, she stood up, brushed off her pants, and got ready for cleanup. She slowly went down the path, picking up the smaller piles of weeds she had left while she worked, gathering them in the crook of one arm. When she finally returned to the main pile, she dumped them unceremoniously on top. The pile was getting quite big by now, a mass of pure deceased vegetation, but that made sense considering how much ground she had covered and worked through by this point. It stretched up to nearly her knee.

Desiree on the other hand... well, to her credit, she had managed about a quarter of her side of the flower bed, which was a lot of work for a creature her size. But it was clear that she was nowhere near done. Fiera carefully sauntered up to her. "Looking good, Desiree!" She said as the haraichu pulled up another weed and laid it down on the other side of the divider. "...Do you want a little help, though?" She asked. Desiree looked up at her, her ears drooping with exhaustion. "...Yea..." She replied. Perhaps a little chagrined, but Desiree's pride was not so great that she didn't know when to ask for help. Fiera nodded politely and pointed at the other end of the flower bed. "You keep up the good work over here, and I'll start weeding on that end, ok?" She said. Desiree looked over and immediately nodded.

"Yeah... yes please." She said, only slightly botching the pronunciation. Desiree's use of language really had come leaps and bounds from her muteness upon their first meeting. With any luck, she would have full control of the language soon. But that was a topic for another time- for now, there was work to be done. Fiera strode toward the far end of the flower bed, intent on completing her end of the deal. The plants were as cold and dead as any other side when she arrived, but that was to be expected. Without any further ado or elaboration, Fiera crouched down and got to work. The nice thing about weeding was that there was no fancy prep work necessary- anyone could just bend over and get started. With any luck, like this, they would be able to get this bed of soil looking fresh and new in no time.

From there, getting into the rhythm was easy, pulling and tossing weeds. Fiera could hear similar grunts of effort coming from the other end of the bed as Desiree tried to pick up the pace in turn, throwing fistfuls of plants end over end to the other side of the divider. Her owner appreciated the hard work, but had a feeling that Fiera would end up meeting Desiree on her side of the flower bed as opposed to in the middle. Still, they both kept chipping away at their respective work stations, and soon had a healthy pile of weeds built up between them, and a wide open stretch of bare earth before them. Fiera stepped back to admire the sight, and when Desiree reached her little arms up, she was more than happy to pick the haraichu up to let her have a look at the fruits of their labor as well.

"Nice." Desiree said simply, admiring their work. Fiera nodded firmly, "Agreed." before checking her watch. Nearly an hour had passed by since the pair of them had arrived. While that wasn't too long, all things considered, Fiera was starting to feel a bit hungry. And if Fiera was feeling merely peckish, she knew that Desiree must have been starving, what with how much she had been moving around and how high her metabolism was. They had been working hard after all, weeding and primping, and hard work was the best appetite builder of all. Fiera set Desiree down gently, letting the haraichu get settled before addressing her. "You ready for lunch?" She asked, and Desiree's face lit up. "Yes!" The haraichu squeaked. "Yes, yes!" And she hopped around, a delicate little dance born of joy. Fiera chuckled and strode over to her bag, where she knew she had packed a couple of lunches.

Inside her bag was a soft lunchbox packed with the pair's food for the day. For Fiera, she had packed a couple of sandwiches that were honestly more meat than sandwich. She told herself that because she was part feline, she didn't necessarily need as many vegetables as other people. This was mostly an excuse to get out of eating vegetables, but it kept her from judging herself so as far as Fiera was concerned, it was fine. And then for Desiree, a couple of whole wheat crackers (her favorite, for reasons that Fiera couldn't comprehend) and several fresh, ripe, and plump berries- a large and impressive meal for a haraichu. They had both survived well on the trip here, all things considered. Fiera thought that such a long walk would have bruised the fruit, broken the crackers, and squished the sandwiches, but they all seemed to have come through intact.

Fiera leaned against the fence, getting herself comfortable against the wood. She would have found a nice tree to sit under with her haraichu, but none of them were really wide enough to support her weight quite yet. Someday she'd be able to each lunch under a tree, though. She beckoned Desiree over with one lazy arm, and the fairy happily bounced over, reaching for her food before Fiera could even hand it to her. "Right, yes, here you go." The humanish said before Desiree could bite her hand off. Excited, Desiree popped open the first baggie and immediately dug into a berry, juice covering her hands and face. Without even asking, Fiera set a napkin down for her, and Desiree absent mindedly wiped a hand on it before diving back in. Then, Fiera got out a small, clear shot glass- not that she was planning on drinking shots today.

Fiera hadn't exactly reached a 'day drinking' low yet, that would be silly. Not this week, anyway. Instead, she poured some water from her water bottle into it and set it down on a flatter patch of earth next to Desiree. The haraichu eagerly picked it up (though a little awkwardly- it was a bit like drinking out of a bucket. Fiera didn't have any more suitable receptacles yet), drank down a good portion, and went back to her meal. Fiera nodded, and now that Desiree was attended to, she started unwrapping her own meal, setting aside the water bottle. The sandwiches were plain in comparison to most, she supposed as she chewed, but to be fair, she was used to far worse. War was unpleasant to say the least, and sometimes you had to eat some pretty nasty things just to get yourself through the day. Luckily, those days were behind her.
