“Well you have your place, I guess I should take mine,” Silver said. They had thought that filling the tea cups would stop the unsettling feeling they had, but it didn’t go away yet. Maybe they had to finish their tea first. They waited for it to steep and resisted stirring it around too much. Agitating it before it wasn’t ready was a faux pas, and that seemed like the sort of thing that magically boiled kettles looked down on.
Staring at the cup waiting for it to finish becoming tea was not a very fascinating endeavour. Tiffy was already bored with hers so she tipped it over. She liked the sound the cup made against the plate. She grinned and tapped it a few times, almost like she was playing a weird little song.
Silver smiled at Tiffy’s antics. She always knew how to make things fun. They were happy that they had chosen to bring her along. While they were watching her play with the tea cups, they realized that they were still carrying that wreath she had been playing with. There was no way they were going to carry the cups, too!

They put the wreath down at the seat next to them. Then they remembered that they had also found a doll, and a glass rose. Next they placed those things on the other chairs, and they finally had some company. It wasn’t an assortment of their closest friends or anything, but they did find it weirdly comforting to see them sitting there in the chairs.
Tiffy tilted her head at Silver, wondering what they were up to. Was that the flower toy again? She was bored of that, so she climbed up on the table and sniffed around. She grabbed a jar on the table and took the lid off. It was full of sugar. She loved sugar! She stuffed a cube into her mouth, then immediately coughed it back up. Pointy sugar was not that good, it turned out.
Silver couldn’t help but to laugh, which caused them to knock over the tea cup they were standing next to. It clattered against the saucer and tumbled to the ground. Against all odds, it didn’t shatter into a thousand pieces, but they gawked at it as though it had.

Silver grabbed a fancy looking tea towel off the table and started hastily mopping up the spilled tea with it. It was a lovely tea towel that looked like it was embroidered by hand. Once it was thoroughly stained with tea, Silver considered where the tea towel came from.
In fact, where did all of this stuff come from? Did someone put it here? If they stayed long enough, would they come across the owner of this place? Or was it just magic, through and through? They had no idea but thinking about it too much made them uncomfortable so they dropped the tea towel and tricked their mind into thinking about something else, instead.
The fur on Tiffy’s tail was all puffed out since she had been startled by the falling tea cup. She used her paws to smooth it back down, but that didn’t help. She was just going to have to calm down the old fashioned way and wait for it to be finished.

As if there wasn’t enough going on, Silver’s ears perked up at the sound of flapping wings. A small bird that came from nowhere had fluttered down and landed on the table, taking a place at the tea party. They considered that the bird might have been watching them from the ceiling this whole time. They checked the ceiling again for more birds, but didn’t find any.
When their eyes came back down to the table and the place settings, they realized that the glass roses had multiplied. They wrinkled their face in concern. Was that a problem? Were they meant to collect them for something? Were they just here for delicious tea? Their head was spinning for some reason, and they couldn’t calm down their racing thoughts.
Tiffy was very curious about the new bird that had arrived, so she climbed over the dishes on the table to get to it, knocking at least a few of them over. The clattering and crashing was annoying to her ears, but she didn’t seem to care about it otherwise.

Silver gently picked up all of the glass roses and added them to a pile together. They felt special in some way. The fact that they were all nearly identical aside, they seemed like something that was important. They tilted their head one way, then the next. It was like a puzzle that they hadn’t figured out yet. Maybe they had to find more before they figured it out.
They just tried to ignore the fact that Tiffy was crashing through the table settings and destroying the tea party. It was going to be fine, they thought. Nothing was going to hurt them over a little spilt tea. They repeated that in their head a few times to really stick the thought in there.
When she finally arrived at the bird, it hopped away just out of reach. Every time she tried to grab it, it was just out of reach. Finally, it landed on a card that was sweetly decorated for the holiday. Tiffy picked that up and stuck it in her mouth instead. It was disgusting.

Tiffy spat out the greeting card and tossed it on the table. Everything in here was so gross! She wanted some real treats. She would have to convince Silver to give her some. She knew they were in that bag of theirs. There was always something tasty in there. How to convince them to part with it?
Oh, the card! Tiffy grabbed the card that she had half-chewed and brought it across the table to where Silver was standing. They looked tense, so she rubbed her head on their elbow. She held out the card and made the biggest pouty puppy face she could manage.
“Oh, heya,” Silver said, acknowledging that Tiffy had come back over. What did they miss while they were stuck in their thoughts? She had something in her hands and it looked like she wanted to give it to them, so they gingerly tried to take it. She resisted letting go of the card and continued to make her begging face.

“Do you want me to read it?” Silver asked. They tried again to take the card from Tiffy’s paws and this time they succeeded, perhaps only because they were a lot bigger than her.
“I have no idea what it says,” they said after a moment of studying it. It was either a language they didn’t understand or scrawled in old lettering that they couldn’t put together. Whatever it was, it was impossible for them to understand.
“I like the little picture, though,” they said and held it out for Tiffy to read. Once they leaned in to give her a better view, she grabbed at the buckle of their bag. “Hey now,” Silver said softly. They removed her paws from the bag and opened it themselves. They thought they had a good idea what they wanted, so they pulled out a bag of dried fruits and berries.
“Is this it, do you want a snack? You don’t really like tea, do you?”

Now as much as they didn't understand Vakrah, Silver did love Faelot. It was probably their favorite holiday. Everything was so bright and new from the flowers on the ground and all the baby animals running around to all of the people emerging from their winter caves. Metaphorical caves, perhaps, but they did notice that people were more like sleeping bears than they had once thought. It felt truly novel, even if it wasn't. What a wonderful time indeed! It was perhaps a strange choice to ask Kabuki to accompany them today, but they wanted to get to know her better. They weren't sure how she felt about Faelot, but they were excited to find out, even if the answer probably wasn't going to be what they would have wanted. After some convincing and a bit of bribing, she agreed to come along, but only on her own terms. She wasn't about to fly willy nilly into anything dangerous, after all. 1[94.9 - 0.2]

Kabuki demanded that she be carried delicately on her flower throne, which Silver did not object to. They often carried pets around with them, especially ones so small as Kabuki was. She was only slightly larger than the average Harachiu, or perhaps that was an illusion caused by her unique wings. Either way it wasn't a burden to hold her and her flower delicately as they crossed through the city on the way to the mansion.
Silver never could fully trust the mansion and its odd magic, though they did come to respect it over time. It was like they had an odd kinship that Silver couldn't explain. The mansion didn't kill them, and even occasionally gifted them with strange artifacts. Or did it? Were they even meant to take that stuff? In addition to being skeptical about the motivations of the person who built the place, they were also skeptical about the motivations of the place itself. Whatever was going on, Silver was always vigilant... as much as they could be, anyway.

Last time they were there, it was far too cold to explore the grounds, but they had thawed and even began to spring to life in the new season. Silver found their way past the gate and onto the insanely impressive front lawn of the mansion, if one could call it that. There were brightly colored flowers and little colorful trinkets as far as the eye could see. This pleased them greatly, though it did make them wonder why their own garden hadn't come into its own the same way. They would have to work on that.
Kabuki scoffed at the flowers. They weren't nearly as good as the one she already had. Maybe she just wanted to tell herself that to make herself feel better. She kept her eyes focused on the ground in case she did find one she liked better. Then she could force Silver to get it for her, since she would probably have some difficulty getting down there all by herself. It was actually pretty convenient to have them around to do stuff for her.

Silver brushed past a flower that caught their attention a second too late, so they turned around to look for it again. It was a brightly striped tulip of some sort. A variety they would love to have in their own garden, if only they knew how to grow them. There was something special about the striped ones that made them difficult to cultivate. They bent down to look at it more closely, lest the mystery of how to grow it would reveal itself.
The sudden movement made Kabuki stumble backwards and catch herself on her paws. She dug her claws into Silver's glove as an attempt to punish them for making her fall like that. They didn't notice which only annoyed her more. She made a loud squeaking chirp not unlike that of a bat. "Ah, sorry, did I bump you?" Silver asked. They gently set her right again and smoothed out her dress for her. "There you go, good as new!"

Kabuki did not, in fact, feel good as new. She glared up at Silver with her piercing pink eyes and made another sharp chirp of displeasure. Her ears were pinned to her head and her tail lashed back and forth like a warning. While she could probably learn so speak like a Harachiu, she was more comfortable making the kinds of squeaking and chattering sounds she inherited from her candy-bat parent.
Watching her expressive ears and tail, and the way she used her claws reminded Silver a lot of themselves. She was caught between worlds, just like they were, neither fully one thing or another. They felt a great deal of sympathy for her and her situation, and hoped that this trip would bring them closer together so they could understand her better. That's all they really wanted in the end. She seemed like such a troubled creature, and they would do anything they could to ease her burdens, if only for a few moments at a time.
