> Xentus, accompanied by...
This day in particular was partly cloudy, brisk, but otherwise mostly comfortable.
It was a toss up between the sky deciding on rain or shine. The clouds could sway either way. Xentus wouldn't have minded a bit more shine, though. In his usual fashion, he hadn't bothered dressing himself any more warmly than just his loose silk pants, even if the chilly air didn't sit well with his thin fur. It was either be less comfortable with a shawl irritating his pelt, or just put up with a little cold in the comfort of his own skin. So the latter it was. He never felt too out of place around here, even if he did prefer roaming around half clothed. There were stranger sights to witness than a pastel blue mammalian man roaming about the late winter dressed only in purple pants. But even so.. On days like this, he did miss the warmth of the desert sands.
Sometimes, like now, it dawned on him; he was far from home.
Though.. This was home now. He reminded himself of that often. It was much as home as any other place ever had been, anyway. Who knew how long it would be before this place too would be left behind as another chapter in his book of life. Ah, such was the story of one with a wanderlust filled heart. But, he really did feel content here. Even if it was just for now. Maybe one day he'd take to traveling again, but he'd gathered himself a handful of responsibilities during his time here.. A black and yellow vulticus was curled up by his feet, taking a rest from the walk thus far. It laid there alert of the sounds and sights, ears flicking between the roar of the fountain water, people chatter, and birdsong. A simple leather leash tethered it to its owner's wrist, but it didn't seem to keen on giving chase on any of the errant squirrels.
The leopard amused himself with his thoughts as he sat on the fountain-side, half people-watching, half aloof. It wasn't much of a busy day here at the plaza for once. A bit too brisk for some, perhaps? Or just not yet time for the bustling city to spring to life. Whatever. It only meant that his eyes could linger on a person for a few moments longer before jumping off to another. He was enjoying this break from the walk anyways. It wasn't too often that he decided to spend time with one of the littles after all.

It was a brisk day, but one nice enough to run some errands that they had been putting off. It became especially apparent that they needed to take a trip into the city once they realized they had no treats left that Kisu would eat. Her brother Silk, thankfully, was not as picky. Why was it that they always ran out of Malii treats first? Whatever the reason, they were off to the shops with the Maline chipperly following behind. Thankfully it wasn't hard to find a treat she would like and buy a large bag of them. The shopkeeper must have thought she was spoiled rotten, but she was going to have to share them with the others. Silver tried to buy enough so that they wouldn't run out again any time soon, but that was probably a bit ambitious. With the shopping trip out of the way and the large bag of treats shoved hastily into their messenger bag, Silver decided that they could take a moment to spend some time together. They headed for the fountain, convincing Kisu not to wander off by occasionally passing her a treat. Once they were in the community center near the fountain, they started looking around for a place to sit. Maybe they could show Kisu a few tricks now that they had some incentive for her. They stood there looking around for little while, not yet decided on what to do. [91.35 - 3.2]

A pair of blue eyes floated around the plaza, stopping from person to person, unbeknownst to them. One person of interest was a tall, well dressed man in a suit who looked rather hurried. His mind made up a story for him; running late to work again after spending too much time trying to find his tie, which was stolen by his kid's estharne. A smile curled on the edge of his muzzle, pleased with that fable. Next, his eyes fell on a pair of people, a pointy-eared humanish girl accompanied by a gazelle-like ungulate. Hmm.. They were heading to the library to gather books on spring gardening. The hooved one wasn't sure if carrots were a perennial plant or not, but the other was definitely certain of it. A bit of a silly one, but it amused him nonetheless. Hah. Who else now?
It was only due to the Vulticus did his eyes wander towards a person accompanied by a small grey winged.. Malii? The pup perked up at the sight of another canine-like animal like itself, standing and tugging on the leash slightly. He was ready to come up with another new little story, but the smug smile on his maw faded into a confused frown. They looked familiar. The once wandering gaze turned into a prolonged stare as he tried to place the where and when he'd seen that face before. He watched on as they stood there looking around with a hefty bag of treats. His brow furrowed trying to solve his personal mystery. A few strained moments passed, before it dawned on him, a light bulb flicking on mentally. It had been years, and more than just a few. The person looked sort of.. Different from what he last remembered, but the frame was the same and those mismatched eyes were unmistakable. Or well, he hoped. This could simply be an odd coincidence. Only one way to find out.
"Hey!", Xentus finally decided to call out, a friendly grin returning to his muzzle as he waved his hand to beckon them over.

They were a peculiar looking person, that's for sure. Around here with the wide variety of travelers and strange magical monsters they hardly stood out like a sore thumb, but they were certainly unique enough. They hadn't changed that much over the years, either. Their hair was a bit shorter and their fur was a bit... sparklier, but they were more or less the same as they always were. If only the same thing could be said about their memories.
It was hard to miss the bright yellow tip on the Vulticus' tail and even before Silver turned to look, Kisu abandoned the treat bag and slowly started trying to sneak away to greet it. She approached slowly with her tails and ears low, a signal that she was curious but not threatening. She was excited to see a creature about the same size as her walking around after nearly getting stepped on by multiple humans.
"Kisu, be careful, eh?" Silver said softly. It was then that they heard a voice calling out to them. It wouldn't be the first time that they had unintentionally made a friend when a creature wandered away from them, so they put on a smile and prepared to greet a stranger.
"Ah, hello," they said, holding a hand up in a shy sort of wave. They unintentionally dropped the treat they forgot they were holding in that hand and changed to a sheepish grin. Well this was going great already, wasn't it?

The black and yellow pup tugged on the leather leash harder now, and Xentus had no choice but to gave in to the spirited canine. He let himself be dragged from his seat by the fountain, led by a frantically wagging tail. Loki scampered as quickly as he could (which was only as slowly as Xentus stepped) to sniff at the halfbreed. It smelled was different from his pack-mates, yet oddly similar. Not that it made any difference in how he would treat it. Anything as big as he was could be a potential playmate! New friend? Yes, new friend now. It was already decided. Loki engaged in a full play-bow, wiggly butt to the sky.
The leopard on the other end of the leash did his best to pace out the excitable canine's steps. A lowly murmured 'easy now' escaped his lips in hopes to calm the small beast. But Loki cared little for the mammalian man's words. With a sigh, he simply made sure to keep a good grip on the leash and then resigned himself to let the pup play with its newly found friend. His blue eyes turned their attention back to the fox eared person who had just dropped a small treat, making him chuckle.
"Ah, growing clumsy these days?", Xentus teased with a friendly grin as he walked up, "This one would have never expected our paths to cross again, old friend."
He spoke with an air of familiarity and happiness. And getting a better look now that he was closer, a feeling of nostalgia washed over him. Ah, how long has it even been? And what were even the odds of meeting again here? Were they always this short? And sparkly? His brain buzzed with so many curiosities, but he didn't get ahead of himself. His calm, loose demeanor dared not to give in to becoming as excited as his pup.

Friends! Kisu bounded up and down in little circles, fluttering her wings slightly with each step. She was excitedly zooming around yet still afraid to get too far from Silver, so she ran in circles instead of straight toward the Vulticus. When it was within a comfortable distance, she slowly stalked forward, eager but uneasy. Her many tails twitched with excitement, but her ears were flat and her eyes were pulled into a squint. The signals were mixed, but ultimately positive. Her odd little lamb-like nose twitched rapidly as she tried to identify the stranger.
There it was. A familiar tone and a mention of past history. Silver had come across this situation a few times before, and it never got any easier. They were almost lucky that they were shy for most of their life and didn't have a huge number of friends to contend with. Yet somehow they always seemed to bump into someone that used to know them. A little bit of the light went out of their eyes as dread set in. They would have to explain, and to explain was to remember, and to remember...
"I suppose so," they responded to the clumsy comment first. They touched the back of their head and smiled sheepishly. "I guess I'm just lucky like that." They didn't feel lucky in this moment, but who knows? Maybe it would turn out to be a good thing after all.
