Comet had admittedly been a nice gift. He was fluffy, which wasn't something that Renathan had yet seen in pachee, and he had antlers as well. His body was brown, and he had more markings than Renathan had expected to see on a pachee as he looked at him! Renathan immediately made plans to breed Comet with one of his females, but which one? He only had two females, one was a lovely gradient-dark female named Kopi- and the other was her cute daughter. Renathan finally decided on Kopi's daughter, Bruin, to be the female for the breeding. She had a lovely bunch of spots on her back that appeared to be sprinkles; she had inherited it from a parent owned by someone that Renathan sometimes bred animals with as a hobby- Renathan was pleased to have her.
Renathan made it to the breeding center with the least amount of trouble possible, and he was incredibly relieved. He'd historically had issues getting to the Breeding Center with both critter carriers relatively unharassed. He was lucky today, he decided, because it was threatening to rain outside but hadn't quite started to do so. Bruin was sleeping, and the much heavier Comet was looking at her with obvious attraction.

The mammalian had no inkling as to how long it would take Bruin, once they got into one of the Breeding Center's pachee rooms, to 'take to' the male and allow him to pollinate her, but Renathan hoped it would be pretty quick. They didn't have a whole lot of time to do this today, just their break between working blocks, and they had to get it done before they could return. They just hoped that they would take to each other well enough. He wasn't too worried about Comet, now that he had looked at him. It was pretty obvious that the poor boyo had never once smelled a female, and he was hooked. The females did produce a really nice scent, even Renathan could smell that, though for him it was more of a 'flowery' smell, and it was obviously more of an 'attractant' to Comet than a flowery smell. Renathan shook his head, and grabbed for the doorknob. Pachee were not bred as often as Orbrau, so hopefully he wouldn't have to wait long today before the pair could get back to where they could be fed their berries. The glass door opened, and Renathan stepped into the Center's queue.

Great, the Queue was long. Renathan frowned beneath the mask, grateful for it's ability to hide his true emotions away because by goodness were his people not great at hiding their emotions (It was a cultural thing, as he explained to the people he met when they asked for the reasoning after asking Renathan what the mask was for- the mammalian was incredibly used to it by now. He had lived here for two years now.) and he had come off as 'prickly' to people before. He was quite prickly perhaps, but then he turned right around and managed to tell a shopkeeper that made a mistake on pricing the other day that he had accidentally miscalculated, something that costed him what could have been a very steep discount (but also, it would weigh on his conscience).
Renathan glanced down the line to see what all kinds of creatures people had. There were people there with those houluh-dog things (honestly, houluh were a little bit 'rich people' for him, he would stick to his orbies) and orbaru, but no one there with pachee. Good for Bruin and Comet, who wouldn't have to wait too long after Renathan got his paperwork done. Bruin was already waking up!

Bruin opened her sleepy pink eyes and rubbed them in a sort of strange gesture. Had Renathan seen that on cats before? Or was it people? She stretched out in her carrier and made that little 'yawn' face- the one with the nose open a little bit further than usual, since they didn't have mouths. Pachee were really weird creatures. It had been a long time since she had been out of the garden, and she did pretty well at chasing off the males and hanging out with her mother and grandfather often enough. She had not, however, seen Comet before. Renathan had just been given him yesterday, and he hadn't been brought to the gardens yet. That immediately seemed to pique her interest. He was new, and BOY was he -big-. He was a little bigger than most pachee, mostly in pure 'beef' if that was something that would be correct to say about a plant creature?
The mammalian waited in line as Bruin looked at Comet, and Comet looked at bruin. He was obviously enamored, and she was trying to figure out what she thought of him, from what Renathan could tell just by watching them. At least they were interesting enough.

It would really suck if Renathan was stuck in this line forever without having creatures to watch. Sometimes they were boring, Renathan had moments when his orbaru had slept the entire way through the line, but today Comet was far too interested in doing 'that' or at least getting him into a position to where he could perform that biological function to actually sleep, and Bruin had her curiosity piqued at least. That was a good thing, hopefully she would take to him instead of rejecting him. How lame would it be if Renathan couldn't get two pachee to breed? As Renathan watched the two watch each-other, the line began to dwindle. It would seem that most people were breeding their pets in pairs, at least with the houluh, and that made for quicker paperwork as pairs were able to do their paperwork together or as quickly after one another as possible. Renathan held his two pet carriers beneath each arm, and his arms were beginning to be sore.
These things were always super ungainly, even with pachee in them, which weighed next to nothing in comparison to some of the breeds of orbaru, like the sloth. Comet was pretty dang big, though, for a pachee.

Yeah, sloth orbaru really were big. The tiniest child was a few up in the line away from Renathan, and the child was carrying a sloth orbaru that was easily his size or bigger. The russet mammalian had no idea how the kid was managing that, but he seemed to be doing fine without being bothered. No one else seemed to be offering, either. Plus, Renathan did have two critter carriers of his own after all. The line was slowly beginning to wind down, and Renathan was quite glad. If he had to deal with Comet making googoo eyes at Bruin any longer he was sure he'd claw out his eyes. Comet was being super sappy, and it seemed like he was probably going to try to release pollen soon, regardless of whether or not it could get to her or whether or not she showed any desire to take it.
It would be a huge waste, Renathan knew, so he was glad that with any luck, he'd get out of this line and brought back. That way he could feed them the berries before anything got too out of hand. There were now only three people ahead of the mammalian, anyway.

It wouldn't really be shocking to Renathan if he did spend the majority of his time in the line. However, he hadn't really noticed the line slim down to nearly nothing until he was shocked out of a bit of a daydream by someone calling his name. He realized that it was one of the breeding center workers, and of course they knew his name, he might just be here more than many other people that came here on a regular basis... He was probably one of the most frequent breeders in the city. One of the top fifty, maybe? That was an interesting thought. He quickly rushed forward, flashed a grin that the person couldn't see but crinkled his eyes in the tell-tale 'sorry' fashion that most people could read even with the mask on, and then sat the two pachee down in their carriers gently on the ground so that he could reach up for the pen to do the paperwork.
The breeding center helper was tapping their foot and giving him 'that look' that said that they could tell that the pachee were pretty ready to breed, and that he might have cause a breeding to occur early due to negligence if he had not had his attention gotten.

Renathan nervously cheesed beneath the mask as he finished his paperwork as quickly as possible, and then when he finished he sat down the pen and rubbed the back of his neck over his braided mane. "I uh, I'm sorry, didn't mean ta-" The person put their hands on their hips, and Renathan shut up, reached down, grabbed the creature carries that held the pachee, and followed swiftly after them. He knew when to shut up, if anything else. He kept his head down and quiet as he walked back, noting that Bruin was now giving Comet the doe-eyes, and he knew what that meant. He almost mumbled a 'woops' but knew to keep quiet. The person lead him back to one of the pachee rooms (all of them seemed to be empty right now though, the room doors were left open when empty), and he walked in quickly. The door was shut behind him, and Renathan was left standing there with two pachee under his arms. He needed to get them the berries and get them let out as soon as possible! They were almost ready to do the thing he'd brought them there to do, after all.

After sitting the pachee carriers down, Renathan looked for his pouch at his side that would have the berries in it. After feeling like he might have left it at home and panicking about it, Renathan manages to find it where it has slipped to the outer part of his leg instead of the inner part. He breathes out a sigh of relief and pulls at the pouch to get it to open before taking out the three berries that would be used today. It was amazing that only one berry could be used for Orbaru, but as many berries as possible could be used for Pachee. How weird, he'd never really thought about it before! However, he quickly took the berries out, and distributed them to the parties that were meant to receive them (that is, the correct pachee) and for a moment or two, the pair ignored each other in favor of the delicious treats, not something that they often got, which they readily soaked up with the roots from their paws.
After the pachee were done 'eating' their berries, Renathan was relieved yet again- they hadn't bred before he got in here or before they got their berries.

Now that the crises were over with, Renathan bent down to let both of the pachee out of their carriers. They immediately shot out like little rockets, unconcerned with Renathan's continued pestering. They had eyes only for each other by now. They'd been doe-eyeing each other the entire time that they had been in those little carriers, and they were ready to be near one another! Renathan had never really seen pachee cuddle before, but these? THESE were cuddling. How weird, how like orbaru? Usually pachee tended to make doe eyes and then do their pollen thing, but this time it seemed like they wanted to spend some time together.
The male was just HUGE and almost dwarfed the poor regular sized female, however, Renathan knew that they would be okay- he wouldn't smash her. That was before he nearly body-slammed her being so excited to see her, but she was pretty strong, herself! After a bit of a tussling match in which their little antlers were involved, the female backed up, and opened up her forehead slit. Oh, well, okay! Right now then, the male seemed to think, as he stood up on his hind legs and then produced a huge cloud of pollen.
Renathan hated that part. He just about always got it on his mouth and nose. However, after they were done, Renathan packed them up and got them back home with time to spare to get to work!
