Nadia was still trying to fall back into seeing the City as a place of comfort. As the years had rolled on, she had seen many things, and not all of them had been good; the most recent trauma had sent her reeling and left her unable to face the busy streets without anxiety. It was only after discovering a new hobby that she felt the confidence to try again.
There was something about having a houluh with her that brought her peace. She could pour all of her attention into them, and they would reciprocate without question or judgement. Even as puppies, they seemed to have a stronger countenance than she did! Thus, she decided to tackle two tasks at once, and leashed up her newest pup to take him into town for some socialising.
It was moderately busy. The weekend was coming to a close, and many shoppers had done their browsing already, thinning the crowds. That was nice. The pair had room to breathe without getting overwhelmed. Since she hadn't been planning on running into anyone, her usual dress code had been tossed aside in favour of an oversized hoodie and sports leggings - even her floods of hair had been thrown into a low bun. It was about as incognito as they got. So it was, until Gelert decided to switch it up.
There must have been some reason for him to leap up at the nearby stranger as he did. It was hardly a problem, since his bounce got him about as high as a person's kneecaps, but Nadia was mortified all the same.
"Oh, my goodness, I am so sorry," She spoke without even looking up, trying to coax the houluh away. "He is just a baby, please forgive him..."

It was getting toward the end of the weekend and the end of the day. He sat there for a little while with Cookie on her leash, trying to acclimate her to him for a little while before he snarled a bit and stood up to walk around. While he remembered some vague things about this place, it was more feelings, and he knew that he had to move around to get more of it done. Obsidion stared around him as the crowds thinned out, a few people stopped to pet his Vulticus, apparently they had died out at some point and not many people saw a Domestic anymore. Whatever, it was alright at this point, he was getting used to it. The man stared around him for a little while before he lit up a cigarette and took a deep drag before letting the smoke out. As he did so, he started walking, pulling lightly on the leash, that was one thing he did remember from... whatever these memories were. You had to be gentle with animals who were smaller than you, so he was. Obsidion was headed to nowhere in particular this fine day, but it bothered him at the same time, he supposed there were things he used to do, but gods forbid he remember any of them... Sighing a little, he reached down and stroked Cookie's back before something hit him in the knees and he buckled a little. A woman was following and apologizing, and all he could do was laugh a bit and reach down to help her up to her feet as she tried to collect her canine. Was that a Houluh he'd heard about awhile ago? "Hey, no worries love! It's alright, he's pretty cute," he told her with a wink and a bright smile. [Obsidion: 1/10] [Cookie: 1/5; 1/5]

Nadia was so wrapped up in grabbing Gelert and hoisting him into her arms that she barely registered the finer details of what was happening. As such, she accepted the stranger’s assistance to rise to her feet without hesitation... only to practically leap back when she realised it was a man, and she’d touched him.
Old habits die hard.
“Oh! I... I... thank you, u-um,” She looked down at her feet, back up, and then at her houluh in an attempt to ease the tension in her body. “I do apologise, he... he is never like this, normally... he’s shy, in fact.”
Not as shy as she had thought. Gelert was a thoughtful creature, but had no qualms leaping at people if he felt the need arise. The puppy rested his chin on Nadia’s forearm and peered down at the vulticus on the ground. Safely above her ability to reach, he felt confident enough to yap in her direction. A new friend, or a foe?
“Hush, hush,” Nadia cooed, but she smiled at the man’s pet. What a dear creature! It had been years since she had seen a domestic. “Yes, your friend is... quite adorable, too...”

Cookie barked happily as Obs tried to help the lady to her feet, and he leaned down a little so he could look at her face when she looked down, seemingly embarrassed. He managed a chuckle and reached out to tilt her head back a little so he could get a good look at her, not meaning to put her on the spot or anything, but that's what he seemed to do anyway anymore, not that he knew any better about anything. "Glad to hear it! He's fine, he's fine, and you're not too bad yourself," he told her with a wink and a cocky half smile. What was he doing anyway? This was weird, but he didn't feel really weird about it, it was fine.
With a happy bark, Cookie sat next to the man and beamed at the little Houluh, wondering if they could be friends. It was a nice enough thing for her to think so far, though, wasn't it??

Nadia was at a loss. What was happening? Her usually quiet puppy had decided to race up to a stranger, she’d had to intervene to stop him from pouncing on them, and now...? Her eyes were huge, round and clueless, when she stared at the man, like a trapped animal. How he’d managed to get her to freeze with one touch was a mystery to anyone unfamiliar to her. Her mouth opened and closed as she floundered for something to say - the colour rose to her cheeks before she found her words, and her entire face was scarlet with a blush by the time she came back to herself.
“I... I, uh...” Not too bad? Somewhere inside herself, she purred with contentment at the flattery, but on the exterior she was flabbergasted. “Um... thank you? T-that is, um, very kind of you—“
Quick, quick, change the subject. Gelert was wagging his tail as he looked down at Cookie, eager to play; after he squirmed a few times, she allowed him down to meet the vulticus, but kept a close eye on him. Ah! That was as good a topic as any, and she wouldn’t have to fake any enthusiasm!
“What’s her name?”

He winked again and shook his head, "Not at all! I tell the truth when I can after all!" Grinning, he looked down at his Vulticus and patted her on the head as he looked at the woman again, "Cookie! I know, not too original, but hey, she looks like a cookie!" She beamed up at him and leaned into him a little, she wasn't used to him quite yet, but she was rather affectionate. Obs nodded at her and she went forward and laid down in front of the pup, putting her head on her paws as she sniffed at him a little. He was so tiny compared to her, she didn't want to hurt him or anything, but that wouldn't happen now would it?
Cookie's eyes sparkled and she woofed deeply at the pup as he came closer to her with the permission of his owner. She was so looking forward to having a new friend! There was no one back home, at least not yet...

Cookie! That was adorable. Nadia thought she looked like a cookie, too - the creamy fur with the brown spots was precious! She had a handful of Vulticus at home, but none that looked like Cookie did.
Gelert seemed to be a fan of her too. He was cautious, since that was in his nature, but he walked right up to her with his tail wagging. His nose booped against hers, and then he backed off, giving a responding 'woof' that was far younger and higher pitched. Maybe they could be friends!
"I like it. You shan't have any issue recalling her name, at least," Nadia said, her smile shy when she met the man's eye. Introductions were in order, weren't they? It would be rude of her to allow them to continue in the small talk without giving her name. "Um, speaking of which... my name is Nadia. What is yours? It is nice to meet you."
As timid as it was, it was something. She offered him a hand to shake.

"Eh, that's true in itself!" he said with a smirk as he reached out to shake her hand, "Obsidion, call me whatever you'd like though!" Giving a laugh, he patted Cookie on her back, letting her know it was alright to play for a little while as he spoke with Nadia, and he managed to tilt his head a little as he smirked. Well then, she was pretty cute, all things considered, but she seemed pretty shy, maybe he should lay off a little for a bit, but where was the fun in that? Might as well have fun while he was around, right?
Cookie went down on her front paws and wagged her tail from side to side before barking again and then dancing around a little, head held high. She liked this pup! It was going to be fun to play with someone else for a change anyway, and she tore off down the street, barking for him to chase her, though she slowed down when she remembered she was still a little puppy.

Obsidion. That was an interesting name, but it didn’t ring any bells for Nadia - he was an entirely new person, one she’d never seen before. Refreshing, or terrifying? She couldn’t decide if she felt one way or the other. Despite that, she was handling the situation very well, considering her crippling shyness. The love of animals always eased the way.
“Obsidion is a perfectly reasonable way to address you,” She replied in a subtle tease. Her own boldness seemed to embarrass her, though, and she turned her gaze back to the ground. “What brings you here? I... I mean, a-are you local? You aren’t obligated to tell me, of course, I was just— just wondering, ah...”
In her flustered state, she’d barely noticed Gelert taking off behind Cookie, his tail wagging triumphantly. At last, a game! Playing with the red woman was okay, but she always wanted him to do something in exchange. That was boring! His puppy brain became infatuated with Cookie’s tail, and he bounced up to try and nab it.

He perked up, well, she was a little flirty at least! That had to bode well for him at this point. He smiled at her and leaned down to look at her a little better as he spoke to her, "Ah, well I hope I'm not too forward to call you Princess?" He smirked a little and then reached out to touch her face for a moment before pulling back again. "Naw, I'm new here. I... think? I dunno, I might not be, but who cares at this point?" Obs said with a bit of a shrug as he spoke, "I'm here cause... I woke up here? I guess? Seems interesting enough, considering there's cuties like you at least." Winking as he spoke, he gave a glance over at Cookie who was still running from the Houluh. Well at least she'd made a friend, and he was hoping he had done the same thing.
Cookie stared at him for a moment before huffing a little and then waggling her tail up and down for the pup. This was fun! She liked being played with, and playing with others, and she hoped they would stay as friends for a long, long time.

The entirety of Nadia's brain power was exhausted attempting to navigate whatever was happening to her. The flirting was bad enough, but when faced with such a strange reply to her question... her confusion was as plain as day on her face, though she would never be so impolite as to say it.
Speaking of her face, there was no doubt that it would've been warm under Obsidion's touch - she could feel her skin pulsing with the force of her blush. She didn't get it. What did he want? Men never behaved that way towards her unless they desired something.
"I am no princess, sir, but please hold," She held up a hand, eyebrows furrowing as she tried to make sense of what he'd told her. "You woke up here? Do you remember nothing? Not where you were before, or how you came to arrive at the City?"
Gelert's excitable yapping in the background went straight over her head. The pup was finding great amusement in Cookie's tail, until suddenly, he wasn't; the exhaustion of playing hit him, and he sat down with a huff. At least someone was having carefree fun!
"I cannot help but fear you may be injured."

"Ah..." he said, furrowing his own brow as he glanced over at Cookie and Gelert for a bit. The Vulticus nosed the little Houluh pup for a moment to see if he was too tired to continue playing or if he needed to rest. Seeing he was tired, she attempted to curl up around him to see if she could help him sleep a little.
"Um... yeah, I woke up here, in some guy's guest bedroom, I think? I dunno, I remember him, kind of, like he was a friend of mine, but..." Obsidion shrugged a little at that and flushed a bit, scratching the back of his head, "There's more to it, from what I think I remember? But um... eh, no big deal. I don't have a headache, nothing hurts, I'm fine! No need to worry about me, Queenie." He winked at her and smiled as he gave a short bow. Whatever the case, he was pretty excited she seemed to be concerned for him, that had to count for something, right?

Obsidion's explanation did nothing to put Nadia at ease. In fact, it served to alarm her more - her eyes widened, and she shook her head, refusing to let herself be bought off by his dismissals.
"Absolutely not. Please, sit down a moment," She insisted. There was outdoor seating for a cafe nearby, and she had no shame in ushering him to it. As difficult as she found it to communicate with men without becoming embarrassed, her instinct to nurture always came out on top. "I cannot help but be worried. You cannot tell me you woke up in someone's bedroom with no memory of the night preceding it and expect me to let you be."
Gelert yawned. It was very comfortable, being tucked up with Cookie; it reminded him of being with his mother. Within moments, he was off to sleep, content to doze in the middle of the sidewalk.
"Do you not think my name suits me adequately?" Her smile was teasing even though her tone was severe. "Since you seem so determined to call me something different."

Obsidion sputtered and groaned as he was ushered over to a seat and plopped down in a chair, flinging his arm over the back of it and pouting playfully a little. "Well it's not like I was sore or anything," he finally grinned, "I don't think he did anything to me, but it's very comforting you're concerned about me, Queenie." He watched her for a moment before glancing over at the two pups. Cookie was curled up around Gelert and he smiled as she peered over at him before settling down again. She was a sweetheart, and he hoped that would stay with her for a long time after this.
"Oh your name suits just fine, but you don't like being called what I'm calling you? I'm hurt..." he pouted again, eyes sparkling as he spoke. Tilting his head, he looked her over, she was pretty cute, just like he'd originally thought, and there was something about her... He liked her, quite a bit it seemed, he was the kind of person who played around but knew what he wanted, and he was pretty sure this was it. Leaning back in the chair, he smiled again and looked her in the eyes, "What, do you really not want me to call you that?"

Nadia did what she was doing best, and ignored him. It was easy for her to slip into the persona of the overbearing mother - she circled him, her eyes narrowed, trying to distinguish any bumps or bruises. Nothing obvious.
"Forgive me for my impudence, but..." She reached out to gently touch around his forehead, and then back, around the base of his skull. No lumps. It puzzled her greatly! No head trauma, then. As soon as her inspection was done, she withdrew her hands and clasped them in front of her, demure. "You should not make light of such a thing, Obsidion. Goodness knows what might have happened!"
An exasperated breath whistled through her teeth as she looked at him, unamused. Queenie sounded like something she might've named her first pet. Why on earth had Gelert led her into this situation? It was so out of character for him!
"You make me sound like a lap dog."
