The going wasn't getting much easier however, and Fiera was seriously considering turning around by this point. She was watching the river but it seemed still and sluggish. Perhaps she could hold out a bit longer for a few more fish. She set the bucket down, making sure it was sturdy and secure. Then, she got out her fishing pole. It had served her well for a while now, and if she was lucky she would be able to get a few more fish out of this trip before it became unbearable. Fiddling around with the end of it, she managed to lance a worm onto the bare hook. She tilted it back toward the trees, winding up her shot. Hopefully Harding wouldn't get himself tangled on this... she probably wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she managed to hurt one of her pets. "He won't get hurt if he's not dumb though..." She reasoned.

Finally she shifted the pole forward, tossing the tip of it into the air. She watched as the loaded hook sailed across the water, finally plopping down about three fourths of the way over. The bobber bounced back up, and from there Fiera only had to sit back and wait. She paced a little bit up and down the shore, watching the bobber like a hawk. Normally this would have made Harding get impatient again, but something about her sudden focus and drive made him stay back a bit. Perhaps he realized that she was trying to do something. She knew he would be waiting a while though- traditional pole fishing was a lengthy process. She couldn't see anything swimming around in the shallows that she could scoop up with her net to make the time go faster, either. So she mentally settled in for the long haul... though it turned out that wouldn't be necessary.

After just a minute or two, Fiera noticed the bobber getting pulled down once, twice, before it finally ceased to pop back up at all. Moments later, she felt the pull on her pole. She had a bite! "Now THAT'S what I'm talking about." She purred to herself as she started to reel back in. Whatever was on the other end however was STRONG. Fiera could barely keep herself from getting dragged back into the water, and she knew that Harding didn't know enough commands to help her out. She was on her own. Not one to be defeated that easily however, Fiera fought like a tiger. She carefully paced back and forth, unspooling the line and reeling back in some more, unspooling a bit and reeling back in, waiting for the fish to tire. She smiled as it got closer and closer to shore... only for the line to snap off.

Right in the middle. It took mere moments for the fishing line to disappear, hook and all, into the water, never to be seen again. Fiera paused for a moment, staring right at the spot of water where it disappeared, gobsmacked and silent. Then, of course, she exploded into a flurry of swears the world had never seen the likes of before, and some that were entirely new to the world of men. It was an exciting moment to be sure, but after she had finally calmed a bit, seething with rage, Fiera decided that she was just about done with the whole "fishing" thing. "Come on Harding, we're leaving." She hissed, tugging at the lead her neptica was attached to, dragging the bucket of her catches that DIDN'T escape behind her. It didn't take too long for them to return to where they entered from. Fiera had caught some things today but man, what a disappointing ending.

The squirts here can't get enough of you! This one might have come to look for its friends... it wiggles its tentacles around in the water where they had been trapped, blissfully unaware of your rage.

Just before Fiera started getting ready to get Harding home however, she heard another splashing noise. She glanced behind her- had something upset Harding? To her surprise though, she saw a familiar pink tentacle rising above the water before falling back in. Was it another squirt? “These things are everywhere this time of year, huh.” She huffed to herself. She set her bucket down next to her, cracking it open again so she could get this new squirt in. It was for the best to reintroduce it to its friends, right? She pulled her net from her backpack, holding it tight. “Okay buddy… come here.” She said, creeping through the water. She held the net at the ready and reached into one pocket, pulling out a small box of bait from it. Normally she’d put this on the end of a pole, but she could make an exception this time. She tossed a piece in front of her, luring it closer.

Ooh, food! The squirt bobs closer in the water and wiggles its tentacle to scoop the bait towards it, into its mouth. Yum yum! Maybe that was why its friends had come over here... it pushes around in the kelp in case they're hiding somewhere. Come out, friends!

Fiera watched carefully as the squirt nibbled on the bait, grabbing it with tiny tentacles. It glanced around- perhaps looking for other squirts? That gave her an idea, however. Quick as a flash, she turned back and dipped her net in the bucket she had already caught the other squirts in, letting it soak in their scent. She had no clue if squirts even had a good sense of smell, but it couldn't hurt, right? Now that it was inundated however, it was time for her to strike. She raised her net up, aiming it at the spot in the water where the squirt was... and then she stabbed it forward just in front of it, quick as a flash, and pulled upward, trying to scoop it up. Thankfully this squirt seemed pretty well distracted and if she was lucky, it wouldn't be able to react fast enough to keep her from catching it.

Oh, what a surprise! The squirt is far too busy glancing around for its buddies to figure out what you have planned. It waves aimlessly when it finds itself trapped in the net, and dribbles out its customary surprised ink... but doesn't seem too bothered, all in all. Huh.
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creature!]

Fiera held her breath as the net surged forward, hoping that it would work to catch the squirt her eyes were focused on. Sure enough, when she pulled it up, she saw the distinct purple flesh poking through the netting. It squirmed and inked less than she thought though- perhaps this one was much tamer than the others. There was a flash of green in the net as well- perhaps an uninvited visitor? A piece of plant? There was only one way to find out. She quickly moved it over the bucket and turned the net over, grabbing the bottom of it to make sure none of the creatures within got caught. The squirt fell into the bucket effortlessly, immediately joining its fellows. Fiera's mouth quirked up a bit as she watched it undulate over to the other squirts, briefly entwining tentacles as a form of greeting with its kin.

She wondered if the squirts could truly recognize each other, or if they instead lacked that intelligence and were greeting anew. It mattered little to the humanish however, who changed her focus to the other creature she had caught while the squirts were busy getting reacquainted. Sure enough, there was an extra fish for her at the bottom of the bucket. It was a lovely emerald green color, and she could tell from its fins that it was the kind that liked to flare out dramatically when threatened. Sure enough, the moment the fish spotted her looming at the top of the bucket it backed up, flashing its beautiful fins at her while gaping its mouth wide. "Yeah, yeah." She muttered, closing the bucket again. "Drama queen." She huffed, reaching for the handle. That fish could have all the privacy it wanted- it was well and caught now, so it didn't matter what it did now.

"Well, that was a more eventful end to this than I thought." Fiera said, giving herself a slight scratch behind the ear before pulling up on the bucket. Slowly but surely it lifted into the air, and Fiera and Harding headed back toward the entrance where the neptica had originally been dropped off at the river. She was expecting this to wrap up a lot faster than it had, but with the squirt to catch she had gotten a little delayed. Still, they weren't too off track. She and Harding had had a wonderful walk, and now she was sure he would be destressed enough to participate in the upcoming aquatics contest. All she had to do was finish training him! Perhaps easier said than done, but with his personality she was sure it would go much faster than they both thought. And from there? Nothing but success was in their future.

Fiera wasn’t intending on spending too long out and about today. She had other things she needed to do… and yet… it was such a beautiful day out. Genuinely warm, but with a slight breeze to keep things from getting too hot and just enough cloud cover to keep you comfortable without threatening rain. She couldn’t help but have a good day in all of this. And her selection for the day to keep her company was none other than Tenmei, her lapis tat-lung. They hadn’t worked together in a while, if she was being honest. After growing to her full and fluffy adult form, Fiera and Tenmei had drifted apart a little (despite Fiera owning the tat-lung) as she explored her newfound independence, free of the restrictions of youth… seeing as her youth consisted of being a bright blue fish. Fiera assumed she found it nice to have four legs now. Fiera 3 Tenmei 11.1/13.1 1

Still, the humanish was hoping this trip could bring them together more, if just for a mutual enjoyment of the river. Despite now being free of the water, Fiera noticed that the tat-lung still had a natural affinity for it, and tended to steer toward it or bask in it whenever she had the options. Old habits died hard, Fiera supposed. The humanish herself didn’t enjoy water at all, though she refused to blame it on the part of herself that was feline. The river was just kind of icky and muddy to her, that was all. Still, fishing earned her a pretty penny on occasion, so Fiera went relatively frequently. It was usually the only place she could go to bond with her aquatic pets anyway. She wasn’t expecting a very long bonding session today however, and so she had only brought a net and a fishing pole, a minimum of bait, and a small bucket.
